They want the 162 for all that revenue. If it ever gets shaved down, it probably doesn't go below 158-160.

The playoffs could be expanded still yet if spring training was shrunk from four weeks to two weeks. But the players are snowflakes and think they have to start the season in ultra peak condition cos they don't work out enough in the off-season apparently.

There's more money for all parties with competitive playoff baseball, so one would think it could be done. As it is, I really think it's stupid that these wild card teams that are often having great seasons are then playing one-game elimination play-in games and the fans are often screwed out of seeing their team play in the playoffs in person. That's a real head shaker to me. It's a huge tease. And I think it was instituted this way because certain factions (Yankees) were mad that wild cards were making it to the World Series ahead of division winners at pretty high rates.
