Go to the parties they held in Austin, get real close to all the people you can, and then go home and kiss your mom and dad.

So, what's the hospitalization rate? And what percentage of that is Covid-related seeing that there's been a months-long backup of other stuff. And in a few weeks - covid-related death rate?

There hasn't been any major backlogs in several weeks, btw. Mostly all reported cases lately have been new, and from people feeling sick enough to go to the hospital.

Nope - opening up (of other restaurants) seems to have resolved the high demand/low supply. Where else can I get a [No Antibiotics Ever (NAE)] drumstick and a thigh, rice and beans, a drink and a chocolate cookie for $5.34 and my 10% senior discount if I (almost never) remember to ask for it?

It’s been real bad out here son. Buncha idiots going out to the beach every day in Galveston and then coming back here and spreading the virus. Good thing is that for the most part I’m now seeing people actually wear masks and social distance when I go out to the store. No real complaints about it either. I got ten calls, all of them young people. They're so sick, if they don't get that support, they're probably going to die. I have 3 beds."

So we going to see a big week of deaths in San Antonio next week? This spike is about two weeks old now so if this is going to play out like it did in New York, Detroit, and New Orleans you'd expect the bodies to start piling up next week. This current wave is largely young people. They aren't dying, but still requiring hospitalization. That alone should tell people that this isn't like the flu. 20 and 30 year olds don't get hospitalized for the flu.

Typically oxygen (by nadal cannula) is given in the hospital to keep O2 above 92% and is sometimes given at the nurse's discretion. For insurance to cover home oxygen, you have to be below 88%.

In don't think we will see as much deathrate as NYC. Looks its younger ppl being hospitalized. But those young ppl will ijfect a good amount of their older family members in due time and by fall we will see deathrates soar and old folks being Epsteined.

Also fear a run of over the counter medicines so ppl wont be able to self treat and that will increase hospitalizations.

I also hear china and russian are wrapping up their vaccines.

If this virus is as bad on young ppl as it seems then hell we all might need to take a vaccine

dang. My neighbor got it at a bible study class wearing masks and distancing. Everyone in the class now has it. Before he was symptomatic he gave it to his wife. She left on a road trip with two friends to visit another friend. Now everyone in the car has it.

Masks and distancing indoors only reduce spread by droplet and direct/indirect contact. Just with normal breathing/talking droplet nuclei will eventually fill the room so it's time breathing the same air like pgardn said.

Covid doesn't magically kill you as soon as you feel sick enough to get tested and are confirmed positive. Average lag time between infections and deaths have been roughly 25 days. The large increase in new cases started about 20 days ago so you can expect the death rate to start rising at least five days from now.

Of those hospitalized, 401 were in intensive care, a decrease of 15 patients from the day prior, and 249 patients were using ventilators to breathe, one more than Friday.

The trend toward younger people dying with the novel coronavirus continued. Two of the deaths Saturday were Hispanic men in their 40s, and another was a Hispanic woman in her 40s.

Two Hispanic women, one Hispanic man and one white man all in their 60s also died with COVID-19. The city reported two other deaths, a white man in his 90s and a Hispanic man in his 80s......

While DSHS has now omitted probable cases from the dashboard, the state health department established the guidelines for determining a probable case which includes individuals who have not had a positive PCR test for COVID-19, but who meet two of the following three criteria:

A positive quick-result antigen testExperiencing COVID-19 symptomsClose contact with a confirmed positive COVID-19 case

I have no problem with them counting probables.

I only wish that they would similarly count probable recoveries.

The dashboard for San Antonio zip codes shows cumulative cases, and not active cases, as far as I can tell. And they need to improve scaling on these maps. Knowing a zip code has 300+ cumulative cases is not very useful.

With the stats being published about how many people aren't making their rent and mortgage payments, the choice is likely either the federal government bails out renters and homeowners paying mortgages or we have the kind of social unrest that topples governments. It really feels like this nation is teetering on a knife edge right now between the pandemic and the depression.

If I defaulted on my mortgage, my first thought wouldn't be to go riot. But, that's just me.

If 30% of the country is kicked out of their homes and apartments what do you think people are going to do? With the federal pandemic unemployment ending in what a week and the eviction moratoriums being lifted I think it's a very real possibility.

Honestly if I'm dying of this shit I'll just tell them to send me to the oven once I kick. Normally I'd just request the Louis CK thing and donate my body so a pervert gets an hour with a dead body and can do whatever he wants so he can get it out of his system, but probably not a good idea in the case of COVID to do so. So just burn me and throw me in the Folgers can tbh.

The hospitalization rate for 50-59 demo is 36% with underlying conditions and 10% with no underlying conditions. The estimated total infected thus far is 7.5% of the US population or 25 million people, so about 7x more than the official count. So if you're in that age group with underlying conditions, you have a 5.14% chance of being hospitalized. If you're in the healthy demo, about a 1.4%. Not to mention that even mild cases that don't require hospitalization are shown to cause some pretty severe after effects.

I'd ballpark it as: Unhealthy 50-59 year old: 10-20 percent chance of a severe outcome. Healthy 50-59 year old: 3-8 percent chance of severe outcome.

What worries me more now about Covid is that it isn't a singular respiratory disease, "a cold on steroids" like we once thought. This shit attacks your entire body and as I said, we're discovering all sorts of lingering side effects due to clotting that even people who have had mild cases start to develop.

It's kind of disturbing how little is really known about why some people get clots leading to strokes and heart attacks and those are happening to people outside of the supposed high risk group. 4-5 months ago everyone was saying just wash your hands, don't touch your face, that it's mostly spread by surface contact. Now it looks like most of the infections are coming from airborne transmission instead. And there is a lot of controversy over whether it's droplets or aerosol transmission that's getting most people. 4-5 months ago it was just thought to be a respiratory disease, now we see COVID can fuck you in so many different ways. We're still likely to be really early in the pandemic and SARSCov-2 keeps throwing us curveballs.

SAN ANTONIO — It took just one positive test to turn Jessica Garcia’s family’s world upside down.

“A family member was experiencing symptoms, and what we thought were just allergies turned out to be Covid-19,” Garcia said.

Her 6-year-old daughter Jelisa Valdez is one on the over 21,000 people in Bexar County to test positive for coronavirus.
“The toughest thing I’ve been dealing with is being away from my daughter. I’m so used to her hugging me, kissing me, and just being away from her in separate rooms has affected me a lot,” Garcia said.

Now Garcia is left with the difficult task of taking care of her little girl, while trying to keep the rest of the household virus free.

“The best thing we can do is too keep her hydrated and let her rest,” Garcia said.

The good news, while the family continues to wait out their quarantine, Valdez is feeling much better.

“It’s hard to believe that she tested positive because of how she’s acting. She’s laughing, she’s playing, she’s in her room, she’ll turn up the music, she’s cleaning. Just acting like a normal child,” Garcia said.

Which is why Garcia says parents should be more cautious with their kids now, than ever before.

“You can’t really tell that she’s sick, which is concerning because parents out there might not know that their child is positive and could be acting normal just like my daughter,” Garcia said

So yes, there are a lot of failures across the board in how the local, state, and the federal government have addressed the pandemic. But considerable blame needs to be placed on those who eat shit like this and then complain about not having sufficient ICU space to save them from poor health decisions over the course of decades.

We will reach some threshold, at which point, numbers will start falling. It's a pattern that is happening all over the world.

There's some large percentage, depends on demographics, that do not appear to "participate" in the epidemic. That's why herd immunity may be as low as 20% infected.

As others have said, Tex Mex is tasty but some dishes aren't photogenic. But your point is correct. Many Americans have made poor health choices over the past 40 years. Also coincides with the Reagan tax cuts when obesity started to rise. Likely due to more people having to work longer and harder to make ends meet, meaning no time for exercise and cooking at home.

I can't blame the obesity epidemic on Reagan. It really seemed to start in the 90s when everyone was freaked out about fat so everything on store shelves became low fat. But low fat food was juked full of sugar instead, and with how addictive sugar is it sold better and companies just left the added sugar in once the low fat trend died off. Sugar is the enemy and we have so much of it hidden in our food. Back in the Reagan days I didn't see fat fucks like you see everywhere from especially the early 2000s and on after the low fat craze had gotten us all consuming a lot more sugar for a few years.
