I've always been skeptical of sunscreens and any other thing you put on your body with chemicals.

I've always thought that about sunscreen. Using too much of it can cause stuff like lymphoma down the road.

Best thing to do is to avoid summertime peak direct daytime sun (11am-4pm) for more than a few short minutes a day at most, and get the most of your sunlight after 5pm in peak season, and in the late fall/wintertime/early spring when the rays are oblique.
