".….California has surpassed New York as the US state with the most coronavirus cases.
California's infection count topped 409,000 on Wednesday, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. New York, the original center of the US outbreak, had reported 408,000 cases. New York, however, has seen four times as many COVID-19 deaths as California: about 32,000 compared with nearly 8,000....
......The obvious answer, public-health experts say, is that California relaxed its lockdown restrictions too soon.
White House guidelines for reopening suggested that states see either a two-week decline in cases or a two-week decline in the share of coronavirus tests coming back positive. California began lifting restrictions without seeing either.
The state also struggled to control local outbreaks among prisoners and farmworkers in May and June. And on top of that, California has had difficulty enforcing mask mandates and social-distancing guidelines at restaurants, particularly in some southern counties.
These factors drove California into crisis mode, forcing Gov. Gavin Newsom to reinstitute restrictions. The state offers a lesson in staying cautious and vigilant, even when cases are low....."

Mind blowing how many people still don't want to believe this shit is realMany Californians ignored safety requirements.
"Even with a statewide stay-at-home order, many Californians didn't follow social-distancing guidelines.
In April, for example, Newsom briefly closed beaches and state parks in Orange County after the areas drew large crowds. In response, about 2,500 people gathered in Orange County to demand an end to California's stay-at-home order."

Gotta love how Business Insider mentions the 2,500 person conservative protest in Huntington Beach and omits the 50,000+ that marched in Hollywood
HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- An estimated 50,000 people flooded the streets of Hollywood on Sunday for a massive protest over the death of George Floyd.

De Blasio inside job.
1. False negatives.
2. Lack of false positives (as per most of the country, when it suits the Left's interests).

Kind of hard to have "false negative" fatalities. :lol
more cases= more fatalities
one wrong test or a million wrong tests, the death data cannot be falsified. Dead is dead. The "all causes" spike cannot be waved away.
There is the end of your argument.

Not sure how NYC would be able to hide the spike, but I'm all ears, how did they do it?

Not even the point of my post. If Business Insider wants to point to a 2,500 person protest as a reason California cases are on the rise why would they omit the 50,000 person protest?

Didn't someone post an article that swears the protests and rallies had zero consequence on Covid increases?

BI didn't not say that 2,500 gathering caused the spike.
"southern counties" in CA are as Repug as any Confederate state (John Birch country, OCR propaganda), Repugs are the ones across America causing the spike.

did the article actually infer that the spike in cases was directly tied to that specific protest or was the section discussing a broader public rejection of distancing/masks, as evidenced by those protests against them?

Bars, Casinos, and Indoor dining was all quickly reopened without much of a measured phase. We also have our share of Freedumbs here.

Not sure how NYC would be able to hide the spike, but I'm all ears, how did they do it?
1. Herd immunity; NYC was the epicenter in America from March-May
2. At least half of the NYC protestors weren't from NYC, they went there to protest because it is the *hub* of the USA
3. De Blasio hiding shit; Reduced/lack of false positives, etc.

I can buy that we all opened up early, but how is it that a state like Colorado, which opened at approximately the same time as Georgia isn't seeing similar jumps? My initial thought is that it is the outrageous heat of much of the south and California at this time of the year makes people pack themselves indoors whereas Colorado is perfect to be outdoors this time of year. But Utah has seen a jump too and the weather there is just as good as Colorado. I have no clue.

It’s not only about when states or locales opened things up. It’s about how adherent or how defiant the citizens of those areas have been with other safety and preventative measures like social distancing and masks. Two places could have a similar population, similar climate, similar amount of positive cases as they both opened up their economies around the same time. But if one place has citizens disregarding social distancing, masks in crowded indoor places, and having a bunch of house parties, boat parties, and acting like the coronavirus never even happened, chances are we’ll see starkly different infection, hospitalization, and death trends from the other place that has citizens for the most part following guidelines of social distancing and wearing masks in public and limiting big gatherings.
A major part of the onus belongs on individual citizens and how they handle themselves. And in many areas in this country, we simply have a bunch of people who are either too stupid, too stubborn, too selfish, too conspiracy driven, too politically skewed or some combination of those to effectively handle this pandemic. And that’s why we as a country are failing to handle it.
