If you read the details they can still start the first eight weeks on-line only without losing funding. If covid is still raging after the eight weeks they can extend the deadline again. Personally I wish the state would let each city/county decide it's own guidelines under these unique circumstances but I could see how there could be conflict on constitutional issues concerning state/local funding.

Students in my kids' district will need to login and stay logged in til the end of the day to verify attendance. My guess is that it is intended to secure funding.

If you read even more into the details, this also means schools districts can open if they want regardless of what county officials say.

Boerne ISD is opening two schools in Bexar:

"The district said parents at both Fair Oaks and Van Raub can choose which learning option is best for their children and will not be opening school 100% online as Bexar County originally mandated on July 17.

Additionally, the Texas Education Agency stated that campuses that did not offer an in-person educational opportunity would not be funded.

As of Monday, July 27, the district reported more than 65% of Fair Oaks Ranch Elementry School families and more than 61% of Van Raub Elementary School families had selected the in-person option for their children...."
