"Hi, we need your help

This pandemic that we are living through has affected countless lives. Not only are the constraints of limited capacity and the need of physical distancing working against theaters, but the lack of new movies to put on our screens leaves us lacking the offer of a great escape from this crazy reality. To say it is frustrating would be an understatement. Santikos led the charge and has worked for months to create safe physically distanced seating, implement new sanitation policies, and create health screening standards that have now been adopted across the country. Despite these efforts, and until the pandemic settles down, smaller movie theaters like Santikos will be supremely challenged to survive.

This message is meant to inform you and ask for your help. We feel it’s necessary to keep our loyal moviegoers informed of the urgent state of our movie theaters as we go through these uncertain times.

The COVID-19 pandemic has put movie theaters like ours at risk of going dark for good. From small independent screens to nationwide exhibitors, movie theaters employ over 150,000 people and have formed a cornerstone of the American experience for generations. Without swift action from Congress our theaters could close forever, depriving audiences of the magic of movies for years to come.

San Antonio, we are your theater! We solely exist to provide a lasting benefit to you, our community. We ask that you show your support to Congress by telling them you want them to take action to help us! Together, we can urge Congress to keep movie theaters alive until they can fully reopen.

Show your support to Congress by telling them you want them to take action to help us! It only takes a moment to fill out the pre-written form (make sure you get your zip code right and it will route to your appropriate elected officials). You can also help spread the word on social media with the hashtag #SaveYourCinema.

If Santikos wants a bailout from Congress, Santikos should band together all cimema operators and send $Ms to Congress, the ONLY message that Congress listens for.

Is it really though? Santikos and other movie theaters were struggling before any of this happened. Spending 50 bucks to see Transformers vs. Avengers 13 and get a soda and popcorn with your girl isn't appealing to most people these days. They'd rather see it at home for much less.

On the bright side, this could help bring back drive-ins which I'm all for.

If your living situation demands you use headphones because of space or neighbor concerns, they're a decent compromise. But a proper speaker system blows headphones away.

Home theater = big LED TV and surround. It doesn't mean you literally put a theater in your home. You can do that for about 2K or less, or more if you feel like sound suppression and some goodies like projectors and such.

A pool is like 70K and the 2nd story is like 130K or so, depending.

I ain't going to tell you what to like like some "stop liking what I don't like" asshole, but technically and objectively (I'll audionerd out on you for a bit), headphones are severely lacking, especially with rendering spatial detail in 3 dimensions. It constrains the soundstage and scale to in your head/around your head rather 2 dimensionally. In simple terms, headphones put a micro version of Elliott Smith in your head while a proper speaker system will bring a life sized Elliott Smith in front of you (how big this sonic image is does rely on the size of your speakers and far apart they're spaced). Then of course headphones don't provide any sort of tactility (i.e. bass slamming your chest).

Crude MSpaint of how each will typically present music. Yeah, even with just two speakers, you can achieve a surround effect and depending on the recording techniques, it can seem like sound is coming from beyond the walls of your room.

Honestly, ain't trying to gatekeep audio, but if your living situation allows it, invest in a stereo. You don't even need surround. 2 channel can provide a great home theater experience and this system can also double as your main music listening system. Now if you like the intimacy of headphones, disregard what I say. Some people do like the small scale "in your head" presentation of cans, but if you want "the next level," a proper speaker setup will really provide a more immersive experience than any headphone at any price point.

"But I don't want to spend like thousands and shit."

Don't need too. This will crush every soundbar in existence and get you 95% there of what stereo is capable of. A lot of the megabuck audiophile systems are trying to chase that last 5 percent.

This truly a bummer for me! I learned about everything Santikos does for the community when I worked for Special Olympics a few years ago. Embassy is the only theater I go to and pre-pandemic I was there at least once per week. Its the cleanest theater in town and the food is outstanding as far as movie food goes. I joined their frequent fliers club and after not much action for the first couple of years, it suddenly took off and I started racking up the points and credits like crazy! I haven’t paid for a ticket for myself in a couple of years. I’ll lose a lot if they go under :(

Nice big screen.

I got the following

Onkyo TX-NR-696 AVR
Sony 4k blu ray player
Sony 7.2 with powered towers for the front L/R, Sony subs
65" Sony 950G LED TV
Roku Ultra for 4k streaming

I got a LG OLED 2 years ago and it had burn in issues after I would watch RedZone (after the games are over they show a logo screen), so wanted the best non-OLED. Sadly my entertainment center can only fit a 65" and I didn't want to do a full projector / take-over-a-room setup so this is in the living room.

What exactly is "exploding" out there? I know the streets in and out up there in the Stone Oak/TPC/Encino Park area and there's not much of anything except what I mentioned already. There's also been a lot of restaurants that have opened and shut quick along that corridor.

I mean, that poker house on Redland Rd was doing fantastic before covid so I guess there's that
I mean there wasn't shit out that way a few years ago. And I expect more commercial growth once the highway gets finished, especially since new subdivisions keep popping up all over the place.
