Sacramento and Phoenix can go 5-1 to get in the picture but give me a break tbh

remaining schedules:

New Orleans: Sac, Was, Sas, Sac, Orl
Portland: Hou, Den, Lac, Phi, Dal, Bkn
Memphis: Uta, Okc, Tor, Bos, Mil
San Antonio: Den, Uta, Nop, Hou, Uta

if we go 5-0 we still get the 8th seed if all these happen, we get the 9th seed if two happen

New Orleans goes 4-1, or worse
Portland goes 5-1, or worse
Memphis goes 2-3 or worse

if we go 4-1 we get the 8th seed if all happen, 9th seed if 2 happen

New Orleans goes 4-1, or worse
Portland goes 4-2, or worse
Memphis goes 1-4, or worse

we go 3-2 we still get the 8th seed if all three happen, 9th seed if 2 happen

Memphis would have to go 0-5
New Orleans goes 3-2, or worse
Portland goes 3-3, or worse

if we go 2-3 we can’t get the 8th seed but we get 9th if

Portland goes 2-4 or worse
New Orleans goes 2-3 or worse

That choke against Philly hurts, man.
It really does. On one hand 2-1 is phenomenal but this fucking hurts. A win tonight basically guarantees 9th at worst.

Portland has a tough schedule. I think they are done tbh. Grizzlies have a difficult schedule too.

I think if we win 2 we'll be good enough for 9th. 3 wins guarantees it.

Unless NOP and POR suddenly start winning everything, it doesn't look that hard to sneak into the play-in. Spurs just need to even their records. Probably enough with:

- Trying to get a win in the next two games.
- Pivotal game vs New Orleans.
- Finishing it with another W in the last two games.

By the last 2-3 games, there will be teams starting to give rest to their players as it happens at the end of every regular season. Strength of schedules will be affected. Watch out!

I'm still in the camp of not making the playoffs. I'd hate to get raped/swept by the fucking Lakers. I prefer #11 over that. But I have to admit, that watching these Spurs play the way they have these last games has been fun. If only Pop would read ST, this season could have been much more fun.
Think about having played a similar lineup all season. I think DJ/White/DDR/Lyles/LMA with Patty/Lonnie/Keldon/Gay/Jakob being the primary backups could have been a fun season. With no doubt in my mind that we'd have a similar, if not better record, than the likes of Dallas, OKC, Utha or Houston.

One thing to note about a “tough” schedule is that the further we go, the less the top teams have to play for. The Lakers already clinched #1. So, perhaps the “tougher” schedule is actually the easiest when teams rest the starters, and the “easier” schedule will be harder because those opponents have something to play for.

I'm pretty sure that Zion can't do 40 minutes of dunking in a game right now. Dude is running to fat.

We gotta beat the Pelicans and get at least one win vs Utah (or hope Houston has its seed locked up in the next to the last game and 'Antoni rests everyone). I see 2-3. It depends on how Portland does really or if Memphis continues its freefall.

Utah hasn't been good at all, they've been blowing every game and sorely miss Bogdanovic. I also got the impression that things between Gobert and Mitchell aren't silky smooth right now. The Pelicans I'm not scared off, Zion is on a minutes restriction and when he's on the court, hasn't looked too good due to rust and weight gain, Lonzo Ball sucks as always and Ingram can be contained with our young guys now playing starter minutes. Next 2 games are against Denver and Utah - the Nuggets have several players missing but haven't been playing too bad, and I'm not hopeful we can contain Jokic, so we should at least try to win against the Jazz to secure the play-ins.

Having said that, I'm still on camp missing the playoffs, tbh. I also don't want to be pummeled by a Lakers team we have no chance against, and even though this draft isn't the greatest in terms of talent, I'd rather at least have the chance to move up into the lottery than be stuck with a 15-16th pick and have to sit through 4-5 probable blowouts. I won't be able to watch them calmly as the youngings go down 20 to LeFakers, en route to an easy ring. But on the other hand, missing the POs means more tough losses like yesterday's, so I'm conflicted. Bottom line, win or lose, I want it to be at the hands of the young guys - seeing DeMar and Rudy take over the game last night wasn't too good, even if they're more effective for now. Spurs have to be thinking about the future and maximizing players that'll help them for years to come, not old vets who won't be on the team past next season.

What kind of gives me ease about making the playoffs or not making the playoffs is the small segment during last night's game where David Telep, director of personnel, spoke. He was talking about the draft and the draft process, and at the end of it sounded really confident they'll get the player they want. This tells me theyre aiming for someone who will fit the team and is very attainable.

Do you have a link? I missed that. I really hope he's right then - I don't know what player in particular the Spurs are targeting, but that's what makes me wish they miss the playoffs - more chances of getting that player at #11, than #15-16, and the small possibility of moving into the lottery is really enticing, especially with the new flattened odds. The Pelicans and Lakers both moved way up last year, and I think it'll start becoming a bigger trend than it was before. If I recall correctly, there's about 2% chance of moving up to each of the top 4 slots if we stay at eleven, and I want to play that numbers game. More than I want to get pummeled by the Lakers, at least, lol.

They are such a fools gold of a franchise... no matter what decade.... Curse of Moses Malone

Slow starts have been the norm for the Rockets so far in the bubble. They ended up winning anyway. A 10 pts deficit (or lead) for them (and for the league in general now) is like a 4 pts game from before, tbh.

It also looks like he could have easily advanced the ball with a very easy pass to Rudy who was clearly open but he chose not to do that bc he wanted to show off his PG skills to get the ball across. He could have at least called up a play to get Derozan the ball in the post or something but he just clearly wanted to seize the moment. It was clearly a selfish play. I hope he got coached up about it, but maybe he won't. Can't tell if Pop liked that play.

What I really would have liked to have seen in this play (to get ball to DeRozan) from Dejounte -- In the first photo he starts to back down Milton but as DeRozan starts to work toward the ball in the 2nd picture he starts to face toward the basket. It was very crowded in that space where DeRozan was trying to get the ball. If Dejounte would have continued to back down Milton, DeRozan could have looped around and got the ball from Dejounte.

As an outsider Mav's fan...while I'm always happy to see Bryn logging 30 minutes for you guys, I've yet to understand why Pop gives him even a single minute. He's a soft pylon defensively and if he is cold from outside, he becomes the biggest liability in basketball.

At least our last 4 opponents aren't post heavy offensive teams like the 76ers and Nuggets (which will help out Poeltl). Obviously these games aren't guaranteed wins for the Spurs but we match up better against these teams defensively since we won't have to double in the post. Plus Rockets and Jazz might rest players last 2 games if their seeding position is set.

Nuggets anouncers' last night were talking about how they wanted the Blazers to get the 8th seed to give the Lakers the most difficult first round. If that reasoning is shared among Denver, we're fucked, tbh. :lol

It made sense back when I wanted him. Season was still on the early stages and we were sorely missing a big body at the forward position and I thought "what the hell, we already have career losers like DD, LA and Gay. Let's make it a poker with Carmelo". There was literally nothing to lose. Worst case scenario you just cut the guy.

Not that I agree with the sentiment, but if the Spurs signed him and cut him it would've been bad from a players' perspective, which the Spurs don't need with how hard it is to sign players normally. Regardless, the role Portland has him in wouldn't of worked in SA since they'd of played short, unathletic midgets next to him that would've exposed his weaknesses.

Good point. Developing a history of just tossing late-career big names to the side shortly after signing them is not a good look, and a good reputation is an easy thing to destroy.

And Kawhi being out, plus all the other weird rest that will be going on down the stretch is why the Sixers loss hurt so badly (to the people saying “they were playing with house money”). Had the Spurs won that game - which came down to a poor defensive assignment, there would have been much more pressure on Portland and Memphis. Now it’s going to take a lot falling the right way.

Portland and the Spurs each have three games left.

ace3g

So the Blazers have to win out to take the 9th seed?

The best the @spurs (https://twitter.com/spurs/) can do, winning% wise, if they win out is .465

Grizzlies

If my math is correct only way to catch Grizzlies now is if they lose their last 3 games which would put their win% at 0.4520

If they go 1-2 their win% will be 0.4657 (rounded to .466).

Spurs win out would only have win% of 0.4647 (rounded to .465)

Blazers

If Blazers go 1-3 = win% 0.4459

2-2 = win% 0.4594

3-1 = win% 0.4729

So Spurs would need either Grizzlies to go 0-3 in their last 3 games or Blazers go 2-2 or worse in their last 4 games for Spurs to make play-in.

This is how I feel about it. It's not even #2 intentionally dicking over the Spurs and I say this as someone who hates #2. I really don't get the reason behind getting emotional about this playoff streak. It really means nothing at the end of the day. The 50 win streak was more special to me. Think about it if we got in we are looking at a 90 percent chance of getting swept by the Lakers. These type of series are not fun to watch.

I don't get the Giannis love, didn't Kawhi own him in the playoffs last year?

It wasn't really #2 owning Giannis but was more so the Raptors forming the great wall on the defensive end with having #2 guard him but always having Siakam,Ibaka,Gasol in the paint to help with quick double and in some cases triple teams. It reminded me of what the Lakers did to Duncan in '04 when they decided to double team Duncan aggressively with Malone and Shaq on every possession after game 2. #2 is a great defensive player but Gasol/Ibaka are both great interior defenders and Siakam is above average. #2 had a lot of help with those guys. He won't have that type of help if he gets a rematch with Giannis. Clippers have no great interior defenders like the Raptors did.

No, Memphis has to lose all 3 and spurs have to win all 3 to overcome the grizzlies. One of those 3 games is portland, which means, Spurs would overtake them. So in essence, its the 9th spot against memphis (losing against portland will eliminate spurs) or the 8th spot against any other team that is still in the mix.
