Conservative pundit Mark Levin opened his BlazeTV show on Tuesday by making remarks about Harris’ heritage and rejecting claims she would be the nation’s first African American VP: “Her ancestry does not go back to American slavery,” he said.

Levin, alongside other conservative figures making similar claims, were blasted on Twitter by users asking, “Where do you think Black people in Jamaica come from?” One user asked, while another wrote: “Republicans are trying to pretend that Jamaica had no slaves just to pretend the first Black female VP nominee in US history isn’t really Black.”

But, according to the news website Jamaica Global Online, Donald Harris has “categorically” dissociated himself and his family from “this travesty” and slammed his daughter for stereotyping her heritage for political gain.

“My dear departed grandmothers, as well as my deceased parents, must be turning in their grave right now to see their family’s name, reputation and proud Jamaican identity being connected, in any way, jokingly or not, with the fraudulent stereotype of a pot-smoking joy seeker and in the pursuit of identity politics,” the website quoted the elder Harris as saying in a statement.

“Speaking for myself and my immediate Jamaican family, we wish to categorically dissociate ourselves from this travesty,” he said.

One year ago, Harris tweeted that she would "take executive action to:

"Revoke the licenses of gun manufacturers & dealers that break the law.
"Require anyone who sells more than 5 guns/yr to run a background check on all gun sales.
"Ban the importation of AR-15-style assault weapons."
On May 20 of this year, Harris said she would also ban states from enacting "stand your ground" laws, which permit armed homeowners to defend themselves against the threat of murder, rape, kidnapping or bodily harm rather than retreat.

I don't think it has to do with young or old. I think it has to do with being well spoken, and understanding that communication is a critical part of our society.

I don't particularly mind if a he wants me to call him a she... but the notion that we need to scrub away gender or sex from the language is simply unwarranted and destructive.

For you perhaps, for others it might be otherwise.. Not respecting forms of address might be destructive for them, just as acknowleging those forms of address might be destructive for you.

Sure, it's my opinion, never stated otherwise. I'm just making my case. I understand if as a society we want to accommodate concepts such as gender-neutral, I frankly don't oppose that, as it doesn't generally affects me, and if it makes somebody feel good, what's the big deal.

However, when you start imposing, and it does affect me, and I feel it's not an improvement over what we had, then I speak out my mind. Deep down, I don't think it brings clarity or conciseness, but the other way around, and that's why I think it's destructive (in language/communication terms, not social terms).

After all, the vast majority of people do identify with a gender. To be clear, my problem isn't with the addition of a new word to describe these people, but the somewhat forced replacement of other perfectly valid words in order to accommodate them.

Lastly, I was speaking about Spanish. Latino means the same and is written the same, but it's a language with much more pronounced gender differentiation, and I feel in that case is really diluting the language.

Latinx instead of Latino/Latina

To be fair, if we're talking about the US/English, "Latina" isn't a word. Latino, like Filipino, is supposed to be gender neutral. Both of those are English words and aren't supposed to follow Spanish conjugation rules. A lot of us with Spanish-language backgrounds conjugate both anyway, but that's not "proper" it's actually objectively wrong, because it implies we're using the Spanish homophones, but those are different words. It reminds me of talking to Latino posters and debate whether guys from Spain are Latino. They're not. The word in English specifically refers to the Americas because it's a loan abbreviation of latinoamericano. So yeah, it means different things in the two languages, and we shouldn't great the English word like it's the Spanish word. With all that said, I don't like latinx. That sounds dumb. Just say Latin. No one else is using that anymore.

As far as Spanish goes, Language may well evolve to a point where it does remove its gendered distinction. Language evolves based on use, and there isn't pragmatically any right answers. If people in the Spanish-speaking world start referring to themselves as Latinu (which would be way better in my opinion) and find a new set of articles, it's fine. It's going to be confusing and stupid, and it's not all going to happen at once. But eventually most of the world will get it. Or it'll fall out of favor and change back. Either way, it won't be a big deal.

The democrats need the black vote to win the presidency. They have never won the white majority vote since LBJ back in '64. Conservatives also know this and are attempting to divide the black community by saying Kamala is not a real black woman. Their hopes is that will cause a good enough of percentage blacks to stay at home and not vote in this election thus paving the way for Trump to win.

They tried, but, the [inferior] Nets got the upper hand, and, ultimately won the game.

What it really comes down to is name shaming people who use something incorrectly when they have no intentions of being confrontational or insensitive.
It gets extremely difficult to keep up with who makes the rules and what is proper. It used to take extensive history of abusive use of a word that did not used to be an abusive term. I dont know how much time, or how things go viral, but it gets difficult and frustrating.

I have a friend who grew up in the Hill Country and if you call his dad a Cedar Hacker, he will beat the shit out of you. So its also regional.

First, I guess I was drunk when I typed that. Like point still remains, but that paragraph has way to many errors for it to be about me telling other people what's proper in English.

Second, it seems like the biggest issue with it is the cultural barrier I was talking about. It's basically just an English word that's starting to transition into US Spanish. You're not the only person who looks at it as an imposition of PC culture on people with completely different cultural identities. Why should an educated Yuppie group of folks tell the rest of the hemisphere what they should call themselves? I do think this highlights what I was saying. Latinx is, at its root, English. Its existence says nothing about how gendered language should work in Spanish. What English-speakers say isn't at the whim of what Spanish-speakers want any more than the reverse is. It's just American/estadounidense in another form. Keep Latinx to English and leave latino/a as it is in Spanish. Or don't. Shit. Sociolinguistics tracks really well with ecology. Survival of the fittest. The two words will coexist or one will win. Time will tell.

That's how language evolves though. Words become prestige or non-prestige basically for no objective reason. After that, people are shamed into not using the non-prestige word or only using it certain contexts, and you get different language sub-cultures. Sometimes, the two groups never come together, and you get artifacts of certain variants in some populations (like aks and leapt). Sometimes the two words co-exists with similar but different means (cow and beef). Sometimes one just wins (you and thou). But behind all of them is a group of people shaming others for using the wrong variant until they change.

Yes I understand that.
But in its infancy, its not easy.
The transition is difficult quite obviously.
If I said "thats the bomb, da bomb", instead of "thats cool... People would get that I am falling behind the acceptable. And in this case I think "cool" will also be short lived now that this summer is "sucking" so badly in SA right now.

Totally agree in its infancy, as you stated above, it might make it evolutionarily or just die.

its a thing in english too, where we dont have a "gender neutral" pronoun per se, so most often people default to he/him when talking about a hypothetical. sometimes you can say something like "when one does this" but often times you are forced to using a gendered word when there isn't really one (some people super awkwardly say "he or she" every time).

is it something that needed to be introduced... probably not. was defaulting to the male pronouns symptomatic of patriarchy... even if it was, i dont see how it is inherently harmful. but its ultimately a symptom of languages that force gendered words. not a big deal imo.
