View Full Version : *** Hurricane Marco and Laura Thread ***

Marco set to hit Louisiana as a category 1 or 2, minor hurricane tomorrow.

Laura could be a major direct hit next week, depending on track and land interaction with Cuba.

Bad news for Trump/current local administrations. Would be best if they both "split the difference" between Houston and New Orleans.

Discuss.

Laura has potential for much worse than that.

Laura has potential for much worse than that.
Turn her west.
Turn her off at the coast.

And then let her soak Central Texas.
If you could do that I’d be grateful.

Weather forecast on the news today was just saying Marco would bring us some cloud cover and that's about it on its current projected track west through South Texas after turning when making landfall in Lousiana. Well, current track as of around five I think...

Katrina potential depending on track and intensity, but no reason to believe she won't at least, minimum, be a category 3 tbh.

Marco turned out to be nothing but a weak TS, heading west of us.

Laura is heading toward the LA/TX border. Could be a strong one.

Yep. She is more south of Cuba than anticipated. Rapid Intensification could be a problem because then that will create a more westward Track

yes but Darth_Pelican fortunately looks like more of a Rita track than a Katrina track, i.e. hitting a very sparsely populated area, splitting the difference between Houston and NOLA.

Don't know why Marco all of a sudden weakened from a cat 1 hurricane to a weak TS over open water. Maybe Laura strengthening was shearing him apart? Lol

Exactly.

Yeah, but it's hitting the exact spot hurricane Rita hit in 2005, similar intensity as well. Very sparsely populated area. Underwhelming. No threat to either of Houston/NOLA

Dammit.

We need rain.
The deer in Leon Creek Bike paths are starting to look horrible.
Id rather have a Mountain Lion in there taking them out than starving them.
They are way over populated.

On the bright side.
Houston is predicted right now to get minor rain so Joel Olsteen has no worries about yelling for people to get off his lawn.

Not at all. Why even ask that? It was almost a category 5 storm that caused a ton of wind damage. The storm surge wasn’t as high as expected because the eye missed certain bodies of water.

If it went to the west or east it would have been bigger for sure. But at a random unpopulated spot on the TX/LA border, not much. Plus Harvey was ridiculous in that it stayed in the same spot and Hoovered back and forth

Lake Charles is not unpopulated and the damage is pretty catastrophic. I drove back yesterday. Looks recognizable. Many homes and buildings destroyed. If the eye shifted a little west, it would have caused massive flooding in the city though it did submerge the coastal town south of it.

Not diminishing the impact, just saying if it went east or west it would have been much worse in terms of total damage and total life lost. I live on a random coastal town myself and no one would care if a hurricane hit my town. But a town up is San Francisco, and a town south is San Jose

That being said, prayers up for the affected and for the families of the lives lost. Not sure if this is the best place (Public Good (https://impact.publicgood.com/campaign/6a665fff-9c43-43f7-b09e-09ae4d4fcd98)) to donate to get money there, but I sent some there yesterday hoping it helps.
