He tries too hard to outsmart the audience in this one. I like his unique approach to his movies but this one seemed like he wanted to be TOO clever. Only he would make such a simple story of an arms dealer who gets hold of a weird version of a time machine, intends to end the world with it, and a team from the future assigned to stop him into such a complex and wacky mess.

The music/action sequences were great as always with him though.

I was checkin out theaters and most of 'em look pretty damn empty for the weekend, even in imax. but idk if I wanna use my rona risk on a garbled audiofuckfest

The Nolan sound mixing here is such a problem. It worked for Dunkirk because it added to the tension and confusion of the battle. Here it doesn’t work AT ALL. Like imagine Inception if you couldn’t understand what anybody was saying 90% of the time. Makes an already convoluted, incoherent movie way worse. The set pieces and “big” moments in Tenet are Nolan’s best. The story and sound mixing are so bad tho, and makes this definitely one of his worst movies overall.

Finally watched Tenet, and yeah, pretty much all this. Poor/rushed story and character development, crap audio mixing where you can't understand half of what is said, and the worst thing is this was all intentional. It's just a big-budget disappointment. There's no way I'm going to watch a 2.5 hour long movie multiple times, with subtitles, just to understand what's going on.

I mean how the fuck is anyone supposed to keep up with that shit in the middle of an action movie. It was actually not a bad ending with the Protagonist finding out he actually put all that in motion.
But damn. There was an early scene when the woman scientist said to him, "don't try to understand it". I wonder if that was directed toward the audience.
