Cole Anthony
College: North Carolina
Position: SG/PG
Age: 20
Height: 6-foot-3
Weight: 190
Draft Range: 10 to 20
Why: Was dominant at the high school level and was a top recruit. Averaged a triple-double in high school and was a man among boys in AAU. Greg Anthony's son is competitive and doesn't back down. Plays hard on D. Great rebounder for his size. Can create his own shot and his stroke looks good. Has upside as a one-on-one scorer.
Why Not: Rough, rough freshman season at North Carolina. The team was bad and he was far from blameless. A ballhog who hit only 38% of his shots isn't going to be popular with teammates. Took bad shots. Playmaking for others was underwhelming. Not long and not a great athlete so defensive ceiling is low. Did he dominate during high school due to being a year older than most? Character and injury (torn meniscus) are question marks.
Spurs Fit: Could really benefit from a year in the G League to learn how to be a team player. (Would he be willing to do that? Not sure.) Most obvious long-term fit would be as a replacement for Mills.
Spurs Comparison - Ceiling: Rich Man's Gary Neal
Spurs Comparison - Floor: Poor Man's Patty Mills
