Here is my "intelligence" which I have been posting in the corona thread:
JANUARY 26, 2020
yeah so
far compared to a flu this is like 3 times worse so compare to a strong flu that will throw you down in bed for 4-5 days minimum
and its way way more contagious
and this is so far....
https://twitter.com/dymitrpl/status/1221641709395808256?s=21
JANUARY 27, 2020:
if containment is not possible, 60-90% of world population will get this
I give containment probability a 50% chance
https://twitter.com/drericding/status/1221139531736539136?s=21
ppl are missing the point
even at this current state the virus would probably be equivalent of a massive flu on a healthy individual. if contagion is not controlled the toll on our medical services and thus other services (food, transport, security, garbage) would be great
scarcity of food and all other problems associated with this not to mention economic
so no, most likely this flu wont kill you but if it becomes pandemic you will suffer 100% sure of this
we must hope it will be controlled. next few days will be key
travel needs to be shut down and WHO needs to call this what it is a global emergency
u still missing the point ma niga
its not about the flu or a vaccine
if millions get infected the mass panic and forced quarantines/evacuations will send the world to an economic, food and security crisis
ppl forget how fragile our society is.

only containments is the quarantines and closing borders which they are doing a good iob about it tbqh
yes containment is possible and its the only shot
until a vaccine is developed which is at least 4-5 months away
its 50-50 at the moment tbqh
remember this is 20 times stronger than a common cold. imagine getting struck with that and its more contagious as well

coming to the conclusion our planet has just acquired a flu on steroids (30 times stronger) vaccines will probably work as well as regular flu vaccines (change yearly and not work on new strains)
this is here to stay and we all will get it sooner or later. the weak will die and strong will survive.
welcome to a new world folks
only question is will our society survive the pressure of this new flu or will it break down into chaos?

Inrespect you opinion. I dont see any area where Biden is clearly better as he can barely put 2 sentences together.
But I respect that :tu
I'll explain why I think he's better (non-exhaustive list, but most demonstrable):
- He wants to reverse most Trump's tax cuts. Doesn't go nearly far enough to correct how flawed our tax code is, but a 28% corporate tax rate is 33% higher than 21% corporate tax rate (before any Trumptard wants to correct me and say hurr durr no it's 7% higher, (28-21)/21 = 33%). Trump's tax cuts did nothing but add to the deficit and didn't create any jobs.
- He wants to follow Bernie's suggestion and raise the cap gains tax rate to the ordinary income tax rate. There's no disputing that this is something billionaires will hate, the bullshit cap gains tax rate is how they're able to pay lower taxes than working class Americans.
- Adding a public option to Obamacare brings a step closer to single payer healthcare and it takes a lot of power employers have over employees away. I think you'll see millions of people switch to the public option which will force private insurance & private providers to reduce costs. Again, doesn't go far enough, but it's much better than Trump wanting to repeal Obamacare and allow insurance companies to fuck people over more than they ever did before.
Those are tangible differences you can't glibly write off.

Probably the most important thing you to consider hater, as spurraider21 (https://www.spurstalk.com/forums/member.php?u=31905) has keenly pointed out, re-electing Trump isn't going to bring us any closer to a candidate like Sanders and AOC. It'll only shift the country further to the right and make a progressive Democratic party more unachievable.
Sanders did worse in 2020 than he did in 2016 despite having more name recognition, more money and resources, and more friendly superdelegate rules than 4 years ago. Some of that was because of Hillary being a bad candidate but a lot of it was because of how scared Democrats were of Trump getting re-elected so they were focused on nominating someone who was "electable." If we get another 4 years of Trump, the hysteria over finding someone "electable" to make sure the Democrats win will be even worse in 2024. Any progressive candidate won't have a prayer of winning the primary, every commentator on MSNBC will be saying Mitt Romney should run as a Democrat.
Meanwhile, Democrats will be more likely to pick a left wing primary challenger in 2024 if Biden gets elected with both houses of congress and settles on half-assed stimulus and healthcare solutions. Sanders went from being a noname socialist in Vermont to winning over 40% of the primary vote in 2016 because a lot of primary voters were of the opinion that yeah Obama was better than the Republicans are but I want a candidate who's going to seek meaningful reform over another Democrat who will just maintain the status quo.

How will it be closer? After 4 years of Trump, all that's happened within the Democratic Party is the establishment having a larger stranglehold on power and people being less willing to nominate a progressive candidate. The Democratic Party moved to the left while Obama was president (not a chance Bernie gets 40+% of the primary vote in 2008) while it's moved to the right under Trump's presidency. Take a look at the primary, Bernie lost largely because all of the undecided voters who swung towards Biden at the last minute due to fear over Trump winning again.
Our government's setup basically makes it so we're tethered to the status quo and quick, significant changes to the status quo are virtually impossible (which only gets worse if RBG gets replaced by another conservative judge who looks for reasons to strike progressive policy). Under Biden, the status quo shifts to the left from where it is now. Under 4 more years of Trump, the status quo shifts violently further right and the Democratic Party follows it to the right like it always has.

Biden is running a campaign on promising things he will not do.
Probably, which is my point. After 4 years of Biden passing shitty legislation in the name of "bipartisan compromise" Democratic primary voters will be more fed up with the establishment and more receptive to the idea that we need a more left wing candidate. If Trump wins, Pelosi and Schumer will continue to be able to cry :cry well it's Trump's fault not ours :cry.
Nothing hurts the establishment Democrats more than when they have control of the White House and both houses of Congress and fail to do anything with it (my theory has always been that they didn't mind getting shellacked in the 2010 midterms since it gave them an excuse to keep the status quo), but give them Republicans who they can blame shit on and Democratic primary voters see them in a much better light.
I get what you're saying, the idea that the Democratic Party losing to Trump AGAIN will force it to get blown up seems like the logical thought, but in a 2 party system major parties don't get blown up. The DNC will make more superficial changes to appear welcoming towards progressives the way it did 4 years ago but come primary time it'll run Jeb Bush or Mitt Romney because they're "electable".

She’s the McSally of the left but now wants to run for president. Oof
She has no chance, I'm not even sure why that's a story.
Andrew Yang should be the candidate progressives rally around in 2024. He has widespread name recognition now as the UBI candidate and he's popular. I also see him energizing more millennial and zoomer voters than Sanders did - one of the big flaws to Sanders is that his ideas were appealing to millennials but he didn't have the personality/"coolness" that appeals to less engaged millennials the way Obama did.
AOC might technically be eligible to run but I'd like to see her win an election for senate/governor before she runs for president.

100% Agreed.
She should keep cultivating and consolidating recognization and power then make her run. A premature presidential run could be lethal at this stage in her career because the chances of winning are very very low. We know what happens to people who run and fail.

The product of article after article saying how evil trump is instead of extolling the virtues of progressivism. You got played, sucka.

Fortunately the 2018 midterms made it so gerrymandering this time around can't be as bad as 10 years ago because of the governor seat Dems control. Would have been fucking huge to pick up the gubernatorial control in Georgia and Florida but at least we won't have gerrymandering in Michigan, Pennsylvania, or New Jersey.
Another example of Democrats needing to get more creative - they should have made sure every state that allows ballot initiatives had an independent redistricting initiative on the ballot in 2018. All the states that had the initiative passed them overwhelmingly. The two major examples I can think of are Wisconsin and Florida where they should have a ballot initiative like this on the ballot next time.

It's not about norms, I agree about saying fuck norms, it's about deploying resources where they have the largest impact. AOC doesn't have any impact as a SCOTUS justice, she's just another RBG or Elena Kagan. Much more influential as popular congresswoman who's keeping Pelosi honest or at least trying to.
Regarding what medieval shit we should do the court, I'm not sure what requires a simple majority vs. what requires a constitutional amendment, but they should pack the courts as much as possible. Once McConnell blocked Garland all norms went out the window and he invited the Dems to play dirty. I just don't think nominating AOC is a productive way to play dirty. Replacing RBG with AOC doesn't accomplish anything. Adding 2 more SCOTUS judges on the other hand does.

I'm a little bit out of my league here but I'm not sure more than a simple majority is required based on this article.
The answer is that under the Constitution, the number of Supreme Court Justices is not fixed, and Congress can change it by passing an act that is then signed by the President. Article III, Section 1, starts with a broad direction to Congress to establish the court system: “The judicial Power of the United States, shall be vested in one supreme Court, and in such inferior Courts as the Congress may from time to time ordain and establish.”

I don't think you need a constitutional amendment to pack the courts, which is why it's the better solution. FDR almost did. It would require blowing up the filibuster so it has no shot at happening, but a much better way to penalize Republicans for Trump would be to pack SCOTUS with more judges and to also admit more Democratic states into the union. I don't see Schumer having the balls to do it but if they have a senate majority they should grant statehood to DC and Puerto Rico. Heck, just break DC into two states so it gets 4 senators. Breaking DC into two states isn't any more arbitrary than the border creating two "Dakotas."
Trump still accomplished the GOP objective by moving the swing vote further to the right, replacing RBG with AOC doesn't change who the swing vote is.

Agreed, I'm just saying that if you're going to trigger conservatives, make it count. Replacing RBG with AOC doesn't make it count.
I'm not saying don't replace RBG with a liberal, just find one who's more credentialed. Find a bleeding heart 9th circuit judge who's a female minority and thinks illegals should get free healthcare and that women who are 8 months pregnant should be able to get abortions. Conservatives will be equally pissed, and that way you don't lose the progressive movement that AOC helps drive. I'm against AOC being on SCOTUS because she's one of the few progressives out there with widespread appeal and name recognition.
The one glimmer of optimism I have that the senate might get medieval is if the Dems get a majority it won't be as reliant on red state Democrats as previous Dem senate majorities were. Outside of Tester, Manchin and Brown (who's fine with being progressive since Ohio loves him), all of the other senators will be from states that are either blue or bluish purple.

Not only that, once McConnell ended the filibuster on SCOTUS picks so they could ram Gorsuch through, the argument from establishment Dems about how :cry we need to be careful about ending the filibuster :cry went away. It's pretty clear that McConnell would eventually end the filibuster altogether if it was getting in the way of legislation his corporate overlords really wanted.
If the Democrats don't use the nuclear option on the filibuster in order to ram a bunch of legislation through, the Republicans eventually will. Better to be proactive than reactive. I can't think of better legislation to end the filibuster with than legislation around adding states to the union that pad a Democrat majority.

Yeah I fully support exploiting how flawed and out of date the constitution is in order to help your side push its agenda / stop the other side from pushing its agenda by any means necessary, but there's no point in exploiting it just for the sake of exploiting it. Putting a congressman with no judicial experience on SCOTUS doesn't hurt Republicans more acutely than a liberal judge with experience being nominated would, it's just being retarded for the sake of being retarded.

Yeah I fully support exploiting how flawed and out of date the constitution is in order to help your side push its agenda / stop the other side from pushing its agenda by any means necessary, but there's no point in exploiting it just for the sake of exploiting it. Putting a congressman with no judicial experience on SCOTUS doesn't hurt Republicans more acutely than a liberal judge with experience being nominated would, it's just being retarded for the sake of being retarded.
yeah thats my main issue with where this convo has gone

Agree
But either way Trump got 2020 locked down
Not sure about that one... he need to win the States he won in 2016, and I don't think he will. But we'll see.

a congressperson has an undeniable record and are a known commodity on how they will rule. it is zero-sum, raw politics at this point. some obscure appeals court judge with benign rulings, you are playing roulette. you don't want an O'Connor
