Accountant takes the fall on this one. And all the other years as well.Which accountant though?
The one who said Trump made $400,000,000+ in a year recorded in his public financial statement?
Or the one who said he lost $40,000,000+ the same year in his tax return?

Hell if I know.
All of them.
Anyone but him, he just signed ya know.
And the real estate evaluations, how they went up when its time to sell or use them for a loan, and how they depreciated when taxes were due... those guys who did the evaluations as well. Even though Trump is the expert... (Sorry thats only militarily and understanding the virus quickly and thoroughly)

Trump would have released these returns on his own if this was a nothingburger.
As you can see the left can turn a nothingburger into a big ordeal. That doesn't change what it is though. It's still reason enough to not be transparent with them.

IIRC, he threatened to withhold the funds if a prosecutor that didn't want to investigate corruption wasn't fired.
I certainly wouldn't doubt Joe being in fishy shit, he's indeed a bullshitter, but the fact that not a single lawsuit has been filed or case has been opened about that Ukraine situation makes me think it has no legs (or evidence).

I think most people already speculated that he was using whatever means possible to ensure he paid as little as possible to the federal government. He said as much 4 yrs ago.
What's revealing in all this is that he clearly is not not nearly as successful as he touts.
In any even, not a needle mover. What hurts him and may cost him the election, is his poor response to the virus as seniors are indiciating they feel like he left them to die. An unpardonable sin for many of them, and understandably so.

Him trying to take healthcare away from people with no replacement hurts him (and Republican senators for that matter) a lot too. That stunt they tried to pull in 2017 made Obamacare a lot more popular than it was before.

:lmao sure enough, newest NYT article released at midnight yesterday...
https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/09/28/us/donald-trump-taxes-apprentice.html
Bayrock proposed to bring the Trump brand to hotels around the country and overseas, where Mr. Trump’s flamboyant taste for gold and glitz played well among wealthy foreigners with a caricatured notion of American success.
Years later, in a lawsuit deposition, Mr. Trump said that he discussed “numerous deals all over the world” with his new partners, and that “this was going to be Trump International Hotel and Tower Moscow, Kyiv, Istanbul, etc., Poland, Warsaw.”
At the same time, Mr. Trump asserted that because he was not actually the developer, he knew very little about what Bayrock was doing just two floors below his office. But internal Bayrock documents reviewed by The Times show that the company, right from the start, went looking for financing from Russia to pay for its Trump-branded hotels.

Trump’s Seventy-Three-Million-Dollar Tax Refund Is the Biggest Outrage of All
https://media.newyorker.com/photos/5f72051e29d4f76ce0c9d815/master/w_2560%2Cc_limit/Cassidy-Trump2010TaxRefund.jpg
To avoid paying taxes, the President has exploited his many business failures, including losses of more than three hundred million dollars from his fifteen golf courses since 2000.
we’ve known for a long time that the President is a serial tax avoider.
Between 1984 and 2004, he used actual losses, loss write-downs from previous years, and other accounting dodges to pay virtually nothing in federal income taxes.
he did finally pay about seventy million dollars to the Internal Revenue Service. But then, in 2010, he demanded a full refund for those tax payments.
And the I.R.S. acceded to his request: it paid him $72.9 million, including interest.
Trump “could not believe how stupid the government was for giving someone like him that much money back.”
In the late nineteen-eighties and early nineteen-nineties,
Trump’s businesses, some of which he had greatly overpaid for when he bought them,
racked up more than a billion dollars in losses (https://www.newyorker.com/news/our-columnists/donald-trumps-business-failures-were-very-real), and
four of them ended up filing for bankruptcy: three casinos in Atlantic City and his Plaza Hotel, in New York.
In 1995, as he emerged from this wreckage, he declared a tax loss of more than nine hundred million dollars,
which the I.R.S. allowed him to use in subsequent years as an offset against any profits his businesses made.
So even in years when the Trump Organization did well, his loss carryovers reduced his tax bill to zero.

You'd like to think these tax returns would make Americans realize that we've got a huge problem with a tax system that allows the megarich to use huge fiat losses to offset actual tax liability and pay nothing, but not a chance that's a takeaway from this.
If Trump loses we'll just have the likes of Dianne Feinstein and Pelosi arguing to keep the same loopholes Trump uses in place, because they're from the same oligarch class that wants to avoid paying taxes.

I don't think it's just 2 more stories.
NYT already released more details at midnight last night. They've been sitting on these tax returns for months, and I bet the plan is for a daily helping of Trump tax return news between now and election day, with the more salacious details being saved for mid-to-late October.
I also have a hunch they're going to release the documents but they want to catch Trump in as many lies as they can before.
Our only hope is the establishment Dems being scared of progressive primaries in 2022. AOC has already scared the shit out of Schumer with a potential 2022 senate run, there needs to be 50 more primary threats just like that.

Is anyone saying this wasn't an organized operation? I don't think the NYT is disputing the fact it's been sitting on this for months and released it now to fuck with Trump before the debate. I don't see anything wrong with that though, journalists sit on stories all the time so they can time the release.
If they got the full tax returns from 2000-2017 with all schedules and K-1s, there were probably over 100,000 pages they needed to go through. There's no way they could have gotten the tax returns recently and already be able to provide such a detailed overview.
EDIT - If these tax returns go public any time in the next few weeks, it gets a lot worse for Trump. You'll have hundreds of tax attorneys pouring through them hoping to be the guy that can put together a case for tax fraud.

I don't see why waiting for the debates makes them more or less impartial. There's no journalistic duty to release a story as soon as humanly possible, journalists sit on stuff all the time. They wanted to release the story such that it was front and center in everyone's thoughts when they would be casting their votes.
The only reason this is now just a story to begin with is because Trump wanted to buck the trend of presidents releasing their tax returns and has spent the last 4 years fighting in court tooth and nail to prevent their release. He brought this on himself.

We knew he was not successful already.
What will be interesting though are the details of the loans he used to stay afloat.
No one, and I mean no one, wanted to loan him money, until Deutsche Bank wanted to grow at any cost, and took him on. The lax risk controls in that bank led them to some serious money laundering fines, and they became very cozy with Russian oligarchs for that reason, i.e. willingness to launder money.
There is some speculation that one or two of those oligarchs co-signed on some of those loan agreements.
Name the strongest criticism that Trump has leveled at Putin.

The fact that they're leaving no stone unturned trying to find a corruption scandal involving Biden and the best they can find is something involving his son (where a Republican-led senate investigation cleared his son of any wrongdoing) makes Biden look pretty impressive. I'd assume they'd be able to find something better.
Of course, all of the valid criticisms that can be lobbed at Biden (race relations, whoring himself to the Delaware credit card companies, etc.) are all things Republicans can't touch since they're even worse than he is on that front.

Peter Strzok questions Trump’s hidden assets not found in bombshell report — and if he’s compromised because of it
Strzok called the Times report a “roadmap” for the ways in which Trump could be compromised by hostile powers.
It could also explain Trump’s issues he has with the intelligence community,
who would know about any deals he may have made.
“Part of the concern of any counterintelligence professional is looking for these hidden financial entanglements,” the Trump foe explained.
“And watching and having done that over six different administrations,
every foreign country is trying to use money to get leverage and influence on any given presidency.
What the information in The New York Times reports out of those tax records,
the breadth and volume of that monetary back and forth is stunning.
It’s simply unprecedented [of] in any president in modern history.
So, if you look at the ways that can be used (https://www.rawstory.com/2020/09/trumps-apprentice-money-is-running-out-and-he-could-be-foreclosed-on-as-bills-come-due-bombshell-report/)to, as leverage over Trump,
you have to think of this first and foremost as a national security issue.
yes, this is a financial issue, but first and foremost,
the ways that
it can be used to impact the national security of the United States, by the way, can be used against Trump is unprecedented and is deeply concerning.”

TRUMP’S TAX MESS ASIDE, CAN HE PAY OFF HIS $1 BILLION IN DEBT?
The New York Times’ damning report on the president’s taxes shows just a fraction of his financial woes.
And Wall Street bankers have serious doubts about whether he can dig himself out.
Business losses can be carried back to offset profits earned in previous years, generating a tax refund in the process, or they can be used to offset future profits. This is almost certainly what Trump has been doing, my savvy Wall Street sources tell me.
Trump has two pockets of huge losses:
one from driving his casinos into bankruptcy during the 1990s, and
one from the poor operation of his golf courses (according to the Times,
losses at Doral have come out to $162 million, and
his three courses in Scotland and Ireland have lost another $64 million) and
his few remaining hotels (the Washington Trump International Hotel has lost $55 million, according to the Times).
an even more important question:
whether Trump is solvent and might be facing personal bankruptcy.
The Times reported that “within the next four years,”
Trump has “more than $300 million in loans” coming due for which he is personally responsible because he guaranteed them.
But that is only a fraction of the more than $1.1 billion or so in debt and obligations that Trump owes across his empire
Whether he’s good for it remains to be seen.
The Wall Street bankers I speak with have their serious doubts. There are many reasons.
First and foremost, as has been the case for many years, there is
little chance any Wall Street bank will refinance any of Trump’s loans as they come due.
He’s been a toxic credit for years, and that toxicity has only increased during his presidency.
to whom Trump owes all this money,
the truth is we know that the originators of the bulk of these loans have been
Deutsche Bank, as has been well documented, and :lol Pootin!
Ladder Capital,
these Trump loans have, by now, probably been widely syndicated to investors, perhaps around the world.
Can Trump’s assets be sold for more than the $1.1 billion he owes, plus the considerable capital gains tax he will owe the government from the sales?
it won’t be enough for Trump to be able to pay back the debt he owes on the buildings and golf properties.
He will also have to pay the capital gains tax on what are now by and large fully depreciated, low-basis assets.
There probably has not been a worse moment in a generation to try to sell assets like Manhattan office towers, big-city hotels, and golf courses.
Trump’s financial situation precarious indeed, and
that’s before he might end up owing the IRS $100 million.

Trump’s taxes reveal president’s businesses reaped millions in return for favors from the administration
Trump’s tax records reveals the extent to which he used his businesses to sell access to wealthy individuals with business before the administration.
“An investigation by The Times found
over 200 companies,
special-interest groups and
foreign governments that patronized Mr. Trump’s properties
while reaping benefits from him and his administration.
Nearly a quarter of those patrons have not been previously reported,” said the report.
“The tax records — along with membership rosters for Mar-a-Lago and the president’s golf club in Bedminster, N.J., as well as other sources — reveal how much money this new line of business was worth.”
“Just 60 customers with interests at stake before the Trump administration brought his family business nearly $12 million during the first two years of his presidency, The Times found.
Almost all saw their interests advanced, in some fashion, by Mr. Trump or his government.”
“Patrons at the properties ranged widely:
foreign politicians and Florida sugar barons,
a Chinese billionaire and
a Serbian prince,
clean-energy enthusiasts and
their adversaries in the petroleum industry,
avowed small-government activists and
contractors seeking billions from ever-fattening federal budgets,”
“Mr. Trump’s administration delivered them funding and laws and land.
He handed them appointments to task forces and ambassadorships,
victories as weighty as a presidential directive and
as ephemeral as a presidential tweet."
one prominent Florida lobbyist, Brian Ballard, felt pressured into paying the $200,000 membership fee (https://www.cnbc.com/2017/01/25/mar-a-lago-membership-fee-doubles-to-200000.html) to join Trump’s Mar-a-Lago country club because he was made to feel that his clients would not get favorable treatment otherwise.
White House spokesman Judd Deere :lol denied all of these characterizations, saying,
“The president has kept his promise every day to the American people :lol :lol :lol

and always put America first.” :lol :lol :lol

Trump plotted to inflate his worth a billion dollars and
leave his kids with a massive tax bill
a story about the president’s attempts to inflate his personal worth,
purely for vanity purposes,
that would have left his children with a massive tax bill if he died —
with the president saying he didn’t care.
Trump just pulled numbers out of the air when he was with Cohen and Trump Organization CFO Allen Weisselberg as part of
a plot to get increased fawning coverage from the press.
‘I wanted to show I have $7 billion.’ Then ‘I’m worth $7 billion’ before the conversation finished it’s,
‘let’s make it $8 billion.”
Then Weisselberg said that may not the smartest idea,
we’ll have a tax bill we can’t deal with
if you drop dead tomorrow and that will be on the kids.
He [Trump] said, ‘well, that’s okay.
I’ll be dead, let them deal with it.'”

May or may not be in there depending on the supporting documentation. Hmmm
My guess is that the money-laundering thing will be the thing that gets him.
After that happens, the IRS will go after them hammer and tongs, starting with the former CFO.
They will lean on former employees who will roll over on this guy in a heartbeat.
