As someone who does business in China, visiting a handful of times yearly, I'd have to disagree tbh. You're left alone if you respect the rule of the ccp and their laws in general in the same way you're left alone here if you follow the laws - key difference is you can burn an American flag on the streets of DC and nobody cares. Try to burn a Chinese flag in beijing.

As for racism, China is well known for "replacing" certain ethnicities like the Uighurs. They don't really treat blacks very well either, Guangzhou is known for racially motivated attacks on blacks. Difference between USA and China here is China won't run these attacks in the press because... Well, they own the press.

But if you bend the knee to the ccp, follow the laws, aren't black in Guangzhou, you'll prolly be fine.
