how in the hell can we possibly land a probe on an astroid that has and incredibly low gravitational force?
and we are sampling and those samples are coming back to the earth?

Mostly to learn about the type of stuff all these things floating around are made of.

If you first ask why people would want to fool other people in the first place, you have made significant head way.
So why would our government want to pretend we went to the moon, and set up a studio and involve all these people that would be far more difficult than actually going to the moon?

You are correct that it is easy to fool people who dont know how to assess probability and have never actually been out of their house.
Add a good helping of stupidity, ignorance, and belief they can see things others cannot.
