New cases and positivity rate right now are nowhere near what they were in June and July in the San Antonio area thanks to mask usage being pretty high right now thankfully.

Why would they lock down

They wont.
We know more about spreads in specific places and about the virus in general.

In fact lock down will have a new definition depending on your political persuasion.
It wont mean you must lock yourself in a coffin with a mask on, so dont worry, Count D.

Also the mortality rates are diving for those infected because we are so good at taking care of it.
You can keep calling it a mild flu if you wish, but its not.
And you can keep pretending like hospitals will be just fine as long as they count your garage as an ICU unit.

Herd immunity sans vaccination is the very thinly veiled US policy in the short run, that means mass death and a tapped out health care delivery system, right before the vaccine(s) arrives.

It's gonna be like the ending of Stephen King's "The Mist," but on a national scale, everybody gets to be in the scene.

There's a relatively painless countermeasure to this, I know it sounds crazy, but you just give people money to stay at home for 1-2 months. You give money to their employers too.

Other countries have tried this, hell, the USA tried it last spring/summer. Fiscal spending helps keep lives, business and economies roughly intact under twin pressures of plague and recession. It also puts a stitch in the transmission of COVID.

DK actually pays companies directly to keep people on the payroll, but at home, rather than giving to individuals, which under Repugs' incompetence, corruption, and MISgovernance, had a "delivery-to-unemployed" cost" of $10B "fees" to the banks as CARES dispensers, as well RAMPANT criminal fraud.

Belarus’s beleaguered government remains unfazed by covid-19. President Aleksander Lukashenko, who has been in power since 1994, has flatly denied the seriousness of the pandemic, refusing to impose a lockdown, close schools, or cancel mass events like the Belarusian football league or the Victory Day parade.

Yet the country’s death rate is among the lowest in Europe—just over 700 in a population of 9.5 million with over 73 000 confirmed cases and no masks.

Trash's official pandemic strategy is let the pandemic run towards herd immunity, ie, Trash does nothing.
