I'm not trying to fuck with y'all. I hope it isn't true. Not because I think he is doing a great job, but because there hasn't been a clear cut replacement that has my confidence. Coach Bud would have been great years ago. Coach Hammon, no matter how highly people think of her, hasn't had a long tenure and probably hasn't learned enough to be a good coach yet.

It is what it is. Except in this case, where it's not what it is at all.

Is this based on a recent report? I mean, we all assume this is his last year, right?

I’ve low key thought the same, it’s just weird we haven’t heard anything with the season starting so soon, I think because of that he may stay one more year, but with the covid cases spiking plus the Olympics coming up he’d be crazy busy

It’s something OP pulled out of his ass.

I just hope the team is left in good hands.

If it's true, then I hate it.

If it's false, then I'll be happy.

Nah, it's from a source, not an assumption of mine. Whether I'm going to listen to this source in the future depends on what news we hear in the coming days...

I will say this isn't too groundbreaking. It has been odd they didn't get a better assistant to co lead with becky, but a new coach would bring in new assistants so hiring a assistant only to fire them would be dumb. Obv Pop did good in the bubble but could not be blamed for lacking the energy to redesign an offense in the 2 weeks after the draft and sell tickets as the face of he franchise during a deep recession.

Add to that, if we are trading the vets pop loses his generational lifeline and friends. It's a hard fucking job!

Not saying it's true but could that be the real reason TD stepped down as assistant?

Dejounte
11-14-2020, 05:53 PM
The bubble worked for Pop. There's no telling how the new format will work and how safe it will be. We've already seen how unsuccessful other sports leagues have been this year. Does the NBA really want to risk losing an older coach to COVID and the publicity that comes along with it? Now, I'm not sure if these other leagues have a coach as old as Pop... I'm just saying why the rumor could likely be true.

Dejounte
11-14-2020, 05:55 PM
I just hope the next coach won't give too much freedom to players and will demand as much respect as Pop did when he or she sits a player down. If we don't have that stern and harsh coaching anymore, we will just be like any other team in the league, overrun by divas.

His son is already the GM of the Austin Spurs... That's heavy nepotism

Then make the title "Pop might be retiring."

If Pop was retiring, why did they immediately find a replacement for TD? Wouldn’t it better to let the new coach choose? Or was this all too sudden?

The Truth #6
11-14-2020, 07:24 PM
Anything is possible, but it would seem out of character and against the MO of the franchise, one that values consistency and transition, to make a sudden drastic coaching change right before the draft. That's the kind of thing the Kings do every other year.

they literally went next man up and picked a new coach. It's a very weak coaching tree as is!

Mitch Johnson, who completed his first season on the Spurs' bench last season, has been promoted to fill Duncan's spot. Meanwhile, former NBA player Darius Songaila, who spent last season as a player-development coach, has been elevated to a bench assistant role.

If Pop was going to retire I don’t think he would wait until this close to the season to do so.....

I mean maybe he is going to retire and the organization and players already know this and the media hasn’t gotten the information yet, but I seriously doubt the players or other people throughout the organization would be able to keep this secret so quiet.

Who knows how this slapdash NBA season in a raging pandemic might make an elderly man feel about being part of it. I’d imagine he has, at least, thought about retiring. Would be wild if we lost Pop. DDR and LMA would likely want out, too.
I can see the possibility of this. Guess we’ll hear soon enough.

The time is right for Pop to retire if Pop wants to retire. The NBA scene isn't what it was even last year. The risk he takes from being around that many people all the time might not justify it now. It could be why Tim left as well.

Honestly I could see him not coaching the start of the season or even half until the vaccine is provided en mass to everyone as it wouldn’t “be fair” to take it as a privileged rich white man
