Not as bad as some are making it seem, imo.

Team would've easily been like a 6th seed by just removing Forbes out of the equation. Yeah, DD and LMA aren't superstars but the Heat just made a run without one. Butler ain't a superstar. Had plenty of subpar games during their run.

Play the young guys heavy minutes alongside DD and LMA and let's see what happens. Top 4 seed at the very least, imho.

No Bryn or Beli
More minutes for Keldon (our future star)
Smarter guard defense by adding Vassell to stop/ slow the Lilliards, Devin Bookers, James Hardens, Kyries, Mitchell, Jamal Murrays

Should theoretically increase our win total

4th seed though? Not sure about that...

You just know Forbes is gonna be resigned and trotted out there alongside Mills for 20 mins a game.

I'll wait for the "we're not back, boys!" thread when Bryn is still on the roster.

Need Forbes gone.

Need LMA to commit to stretch 5 role for the team. This is also in his best interest to get another contract.

Need DMDR to stay in his bubble style of play by deferring to the young players more often.

Need Pop to not be an idiot with player rotations.

11-19-2020, 12:19 AM
If you think about it, our current guards (Lonnie, Murray, Forbes) made no impact whenever they defended the star SGs of the league. The hope is Vassell can do something positive there.

I don't think the Spurs are done yet. With Vassell, I think the Spurs can package either Murray or Lonnie with Aldridge to get Wiseman/Wiggins, depends on Klay's situation.

We aren't making the playoffs with LMA and DDR...several teams that have missed the playoffs this year will be better next year, while we got worse (worse because out 2 "best"players got even older and our draft picks aren't gonna be in the rotation)

Gibbz
11-19-2020, 12:28 AM
I'm with you saying this team can absolutely make the playoffs without Forbes being third on the team in minutes. "Top 4 seed at the very least" is a bit ridiculous to say, but I could see us in the playoffs with this bunch as long as Bryn is gone/has a GREATLY diminished role.

Even worse...then our draft picks are DEFINITELY not seeing the court... Pop will run it back with the exact same team because the draft picks haven't paid their dues and learned "the system" yet

I get what you’re saying with style of play but the results will be pre-Robinson 1980s results. This era will be like 1983-1989. Not sure if a Robinson will be waiting for us at the end of it though

Running it back might get you the 8th through 6th seed...but all you are going to do is get your anal cavity hollowed out by the lakers, clippers, or nuggets in the first round...so why would yo want to do that ? You already did it twice in the last 3 years...and the only reason why you haven't done it 3 times in 3 years is cause those same veteran run it back players are no longer good enough to get you to the playoffs...

timtonymanu
11-19-2020, 12:50 AM
7th - 8th seed ceiling if Pop uses the right players in the rotation. It's gonna be interesting to see how Lonnie/Keldon/Luka look after 1 year of experience. I could see them finishing 9th in the West though.

Hoping to miss the playoffs again. Next year's draft is going to be a strong deep draft The Spurs will be in position to get a good prospect even with a low lottery pick around 13. The only thing I'm looking forward to this upcoming season is watching the development of the Spurs young players.

If we get rid of Belli and Forbes then they will get minutes. It all hinges on not resigning those 2.

Honestly the model now, if you don't have a superteam, is the Miami Heat. Sure, they had Butler, although I'm still not sure how high I rate him. The reason they were killer was plentiful points of attack and dynamic threatening perimeter play.

Toronto was NOT a low post team... LMFAO! Neither were the Lakers...one of the most common criticisms was that anthony davis didn't use his size in the post...simply being a big team doesn't mean you're a post up team

The plan now is continue to lose until pop leaves and Wright is fired. Hopefully that won’t take too long. If it does then the spurs may be sold to a new owner and be on the move to a new city

Thanks. Having a good day. Just stating the obvious. I’m not surprised or shocked about anything the spurs do. The team has had the same issues for a while now.

"durrr team would've easily been like a 6th seed by just removing Forbes out of the equation durrr"

Problem is, that isn't part of the equation. Forbes is the de facto starting SG. The team ended up exactly where they deserved to end up.

The same thing will happen this year.

The subtraction of Forbes, Mills, bellinelli and derozan lineups should net the spurs 10+ wins on general principle.

The good news is this team is going to suck again next year and will be in the lottery in a stacked draft.

The bad news is instead being able to watch the young guys develop, the spur will continue to give all the minutes to a bunch of washed up scrub vets who they should've traded for actual rebuilding assets more than a year ago.

This is going to be at least 3 more years of below. 500 basketball. Total mismanagement by the front office.
