Not a surprise at all. The Spurs had until the 29th to waive him to avoid paying him $500,000 next season but I guess they decided to do it as soon as possible to avoid a scenario where he gets hurt and they're on the hook. Or, perhaps, the Spurs wanted to give Metu a better chance of landing with another NBA team.

Metu's Spurs career was basically over after Eubanks past him in the depth charts.

This guy was overhyped as hell when the team drafted him and he never looked like an nba player. Best of luck to him I guess.

Best of luck Chimezie, I had hoped he could become a bench guy that earned some regular PT.

I think it's the second explanation: do Metu a solid by giving him more time to find a new team.

Probably a little of both
Spurs are known for taking care of people. Even at the end of the bench.

Metu was terrible. LJ said his Spurs time was up when Eubanks passed him on the depth chart. I think it was up when they drafted Samanic. He had size, all of the athletic gifts of Metu, and actual basketball skills.

Sad. Trey Lyles, Samanic, Poetl, is not a bad young front court. Would be nice to get a beast 3/4 though. Snif Patrick Williams. Oh well. GSG!!

Metu with his athletic skills should focus on playing D, hassle guy, rebound, shot blocking. That’s how he could carve a roll in the NBA. Best of luck

He was fun to watch in Austin actually. Had some impressive dunks and displayed some nice footwork and some good boards in the paint. He also was hitting a 3 pt or two.

Just never seemed to translate to minutes or production in SA.

If I remember correctly, in his very first summer league after the draft he showed a surprising amount of promise with defensive rotations and hitting long jumpers. In retrospect that was probably the best basketball he ever played.

Metu just never looked like an NBA player to me. I'm no scout at all, just my hunch and the eye test.

Forbes looked the same way in his first year. Then he improved, got promoted to the starting lineup and....shit....the Spurs better not give him another contract.

Spurs have decided that Eubanks has a lot more upside potential.

When did A.D. join the commentary team for the Pelicans?

I always find it weird when teams hire players with no organizational connection to work local broadcasts. Then again, the Wizards hired Drew Gooden solely based on being a former Wizard and he sucks.

Nevermind, he spent his penultimate year in the NBA with the New Orleans Hornets. Somehow I had totally forgotten about that.....

If someone can embed this angle of the video it would show a different story. Valaciunas immediately wraps Metu's leg with his left arm. Many would not want to let go of the rim now either. It's customary for a player to hold onto the rim until everyone clears the landing area. This is really upsetting to watch a Valaciunas breaking someone's wrist and getting away with it.

That's a shot well after the play. The fact is that Metu had already dunked, was holding onto the rim with both hands, and raised his legs overtop of Valancuinas's shoulders - then Valancuinas grabs his leg and spins and tosses him down. All Metu had to do was leave his legs down, he'd have bumped into Val's shoulder and there wouldn't have been an incident. Instead, he went to take a pony ride, and Valancuinas didn't take it well. It's flagrant by Valancuinas ... but taunt the bull, get the horns...

Mets was never given an opportunity to land. Why should he just land risking an ankle injury? Why did Valaciunas wrap Metu’s leg around him immediately when he felt it? If Metu has to hang while waiting for valaciunas clear the floor, momentum will swing you that way. Later on Valaciunas does it way worse but you don’t see other people trying to hurt him. It’s such a dangerous play and completely unwarranted unless you throw logic and safety out the window.

Terrible defense by Nkitilina, forcing the wing defender to come help.

Metu's minutes have expanded this year and his efficiency has tumbled. He hoists nearly 4 three pointers a game, making only one of them, and is shooting about 40% overall. Leaving him in that situation's not a terrible idea. He shouldn't be playing 24 minutes a game, much less starting, but then it's the Sacramento Kings.

KBD clearing out multiple scrubs ST was clinging to. I do wonder what would have happened had Keita fallen just one more pick. Team might've still picked Chim over him, but KBD checked more boxes that the Spurs have had forever.

If KBD is what made the Spurs give up on Richards, he should put that notch in his belt too. I would hope no one was holding a candle out for him by the time that draft came around though. As you know, I was a big believer, but once he forewent the d-league, there was no hope for him as an NBA player.
