No?

Whopdee doo.

What, Dennis Scott wasn't available??

Id have rather played Ginobili 48 mins and shut up the argentinians.

Seeing as Ginobili is hurt too. I'd rather not.

timvp

Notice how quiet it gets when *gasp* the Spurs need more than 13 players on their roster. Now Holt is going to have sell a dump truck or whatever to splurge for a luxury 98% of NBA teams have.

They just signed someone temporarily because injuries forced them to. That's not the same as signing someone outright to gain some depth.

Not sure what a breathern is but Holt was forced to with every swingman on the team save Bowen limping.

But I thought the Spurs were indestructible and signing a 14th man was pointless.

odds of winning the lottery are about the same odds as 3 swingman down at one time

Finley has a strained groin and won't play tonight. Barry was sent to the inactive list and Marks activated.

Finley, Barry miss game with injuries

November 9, 2005
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- San Antonio guards Michael Finley and Brent Barry both missed the Spurs' game against the Charlotte Bobcats on Wednesday night with injuries.

Finley was placed on the inactive list before the game with tightness in his groin and Barry had lower back spasms.

The Spurs also activated forward Sean Marks and signed guard Melvin Sanders, who had been with the team in training camp.

It's official:

SPURS SIGN MELVIN SANDERS

PLACE FORWARD MICHAEL FINLEY ON THE INACTIVE LIST

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Spurs today announced that they have signed free agent guard Melvin Sanders. Per club policy terms of the agreement were not announced.

The 6-5, 210-pound guard played seven preseason contests with the Spurs, averaging 6.3 points, 2.6 assists and 0.9 rebounds in 14.9 minutes per contest. Sanders had his best preseason outing versus the Philadelphia 76ers on October 12, when he paced the Spurs with 18 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and had 3 steals in 27 minutes. Sanders was released by the Spurs on October 26.

Sanders averaged 15.6 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.0 assists in five games with the Spurs summer league team at the 2005 Rocky Mountain Revue. The Oklahoma State product spent the 2004-05 season with the Dakota Wizards of the CBA where he averaged 18.7 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.0 assists on his way to being selected to the All-CBA Second Team and the CBA All-Defensive First Team.

At the same time the Spurs placed forward Michael Finley on the inactive list.

Spurs: Barry likely to miss a week of action
Spurs: Barry likely to miss a week of action

by Fanball Staff - Fanball.com
Wednesday, November 9, 2005

News
Spurs guard Brent Barry had an MRI on his sore back on Tuesday and is expected to miss a week, according to the San Antonio Express-News. Barry experienced some back tightness prior to Saturday's game against the Mavericks, but bent over awkwardly in an attempt to grab a rebound and the condition got worse. The team is still waiting on team doctors to evaluate the MRI results and issue a clearer diagnosis.

Views
Barry was not a player you would find on many fantasy teams, but his value as a role player for the Spurs was understated. The early timetable has him missing three games, but it's nearly a certainty that that is adjusted after the MRI results are interpreted.

Yep, having a solid 5th swing was pointless with an aged swingman rotation. Yes, it is far better to see Holt Cat to avoid the indignity of going over the lux tax threshold.

Spurs fans, cheer.

No doubt a 10 day contract.

No, a team could sign a 10 day contract only after January 10th.
It's likely a non guaranteed contract. It becomes guaranteed if Spurs don't waive Sanders before January 10th.

I'm just not sure why you are down on them signing Sanders. He's a player that they are high on and would have kept if they weren't over the luxury tax. Now they are forced to have him because our swingmen are old and injured.

Theres alot of good defensive forwards but horrible shooters.

Sanders fills that mode.

Luxury tax for teams with low TV Income is horseshit.

It was the right thing to do.
Spurs will likely waive the 14th man in december for Luxury tax purpose.
Sanders isn't maybe the more talented (even if it is to prove) but he has yhe big advantage to have made the whole training camp : he knows Spurs O and D.
Another player would be way less effective than him for this month.
