Depends. For youth who undergo treatment at or during puberty (school sports, which is really what’s at issue here) there is virtually no advantage.

The issues described mostly manifest at the higher end (pro/olympic level) for people who transition as adults, post puberty. And even there, depending on the sport, while 1 year of threatment may not be sufficiently long, two years can bring parity. In other sports even that won’t completely level the playing field.
