Timberwolves' star announces big gift to Katrina victims
Kevin Garnett has pledged $1.2 million to build homes for those left homeless by Hurricane Katrina. His pledge equals about one home a month for two years.
He made the surprise announcement on the Oprah Winfrey show. Garnett is giving the money to Winfrey's Angel Network, which has been working to rebuild homes in the hurricane ravaged areas.
Winfrey read a note from Garnett on the air that said, "I'm extremely excited to be working with such a quality individual like Oprah Winfrey and her organization," Garnett went on to say, "I heard Oprah's message about what people could do to help... and it made me think about what I could do."
