I don't take any credit away from the Bucs D. But the Chiefs O was pretty anemic. Maybe if Williams hadn't taken the year off...
:lmao implying little scatback Damien Williams, mr. come up short on 3rd and 1, would have made a difference. :rollin
Where does everyone think Wentz ends up? Indy seems to make the most sense, I’m not sure they pony up what is needed though.
apparently they didn’t even offer up a first for stafford

Wouldn't shock me if Philly doubles down on Wentz and trades Hurts since his trade value is higher right now. I can't see anyone bailing Philly out with a high pick considering Wentz's horrible contract.

They said a few days ago they are actively looking to trade him. Apparently have been close to getting a deal done.
a lot of qb needy teams. Imagine one of them gives more than they should for wentz

Another logical choice would be Bears because they have DeFilippo and also the Eagles can get Foles and maybe a 2nd back.

""I never realized just how many holes the Chiefs have to fill next season and with very little cap space. They will need an overhaul of the Oline, Fisher not due back until atleast November, They may cut him to free up some cap space. Schwartz back issues are a problem, it's been 4 months and doesn't seem to be getting better. 3 of their other Olinemen are free agents. They need a #2 WR. Watkins is a free agent. Robinson and Hardman are not that good. They need another Edge rusher. Their Linebackers aren't that good. Breeland their #1 CB is a free agent. All this and the aura of them being unbeatable are gone makes me feel alot different about them going into next season. And how many times has a team made it to three consecutive SB's? History is not on their side."
Yikes. Have a seat for a few years.
I think they'll get Prescott or Rodgers.
Lol no to both. Especially Rodgers. No way the packers are trading him. They have already said as much. And jerruh is gonna give Dak a big fat contract and your gonna like it

People aren’t just looking at 1 year. He was good before and was running for his life all year. Someone will think if they can get him behind a good o line he can return to form. He is young as well, plenty of time to recover/salvage his career.
If wentz gets traded a First will be involved. Whether current year first or future 1st. I’ll NFL forum ele bet you on that shit. We can just make it for next year, forever not being able to post in nfl forum would be detrimental to your health. I assume you are going to pussy out on this though o

Ballard isn't going to give up multiple 1sts for Wentz when his contract is dogshit, he has character concerns, and he's coming off a terrible season.
Eagles should have to attach a pick to take on Wentz contract.

Correct about multiple 1st. Gonna have to give up at least 1 first though tbh. Would be better off getting the future first than current. Something like a future 1st and current 3rd or 4th should get the job done

Yeah but great QBs transcend mediocre or worse O-lines, average QBs can look great behind great O-lines. Dak looked great when the Cowboys o-line peaked, Wentz looked fantastic behind the historically great pass protecting O-Line of the 2017 Eagles, that rushed for 9 yards per carry in the Super Bowl against Belichick's vaunted rush D and didn't give up any sacks or pressures -- while protecting a pocket statue QB in Foles -- aka, historically great pass protection.
Most of the time you're not going to have 4 pro bowlers on the o-line like the Eagles that year. Either you get a medium priced QB and invest in a great OL or you get a transcendent QB like Mahomes/Brady/Wilson who can do great things despite a bad O-Line.
Though the Bucs D-Line shredding the Chiefs O-Line has changed that theory quite a bit of QB vs. O-Line priority. Especially when you consider, say, the 2017 Eagles Super Bowl run.

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/30923798/sources-philadelphia-eagles-trade-qb-carson-wentz-indianapolis-colts-two-draft-picks
The Philadelphia Eagles have agreed to trade star quarterback Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts for a 2021 third-round draft pick and a conditional 2022 second-round pick that could turn into a first-rounder, league sources tell ESPN.
The Eagles will receive the 85th overall pick in this year's draft, and the conditional second-rounder can become a first-round pick based on Wentz's playing time, according to sources. Wentz needs to play at least 75% of the Colts' offensive snaps for the 2022 conditional pick to convey to a first-rounder, according to sources.
The pick also could become a first-rounder if Wentz plays at least 70% of the snaps and the Colts reach the playoffs. But the worst the 2022 pick can be is a second-rounder, meaning the Eagles are assured of netting two value picks for the former No. 2 overall selection in the 2016 draft.

https://www.baltimorebeatdown.com/2021/2/24/22299324/ravens-linebacker-matt-judon-demands-apology-or-threatens-to-leak-photos
Like, if Hensley were actually cheating on his wife (and no, Judon is clearly joking about that whole thing), then Hensley is the dude in the wrong. It's crazy that folks are only talking about this in terms of potential blackmail (which again, it's not). If Hensley were really going around strip clubs partying with NFL players and cheating on his wife, then he's not the victim.
Chinook
02-24-2021, 06:17 PM
Also (and maybe someone like spurraider21 could speak better to this), but this wouldn't be libel, since it's obviously absurd. "Defamatory" statements that are obviously false and hyperbolic aren't supposed to fall under libel laws. So Hensley trying to threaten legal action probably wouldn't work, though I guess just the risk of a court battle will be enough of a deterrent for this to keep going.

tyrell williams - cut

trent brown - traded
they also cut gabe jackson. will likely cut mariota if they cant find a team willing to throw a late pick for him. once mariota is moved, that would put them about 45 mil under the cap, but will have a number of holes on the OL as well as the disaster which has been their defense

Wilson and that defense would be insane.
Packers likely have nowhere to go but down - they just spent $12.5M/year on a running back, yeah Aaron Jones has looked good but that's because of the o-line, and he's also had ball security issues. Too much for a running back.

Agreed, well done, 13 million for a starting DE who can get double digit sacks in a starter role isn't bad at all. And no long term commitment in case he goes crazy again.

Suh is 34 and has a fuckton of money. If he doesn't want to take a veteran paycut to be a part of a stacked DL and run it back for a championship then he's a dumbass who doesn't deserve to be in Tampa anyway. He wouldn't be nearly as good if he gets overpaid by a team with a bad DL and doesn't get the favorable looks from enemy O-lines he gets standing next to Vita Vea and JPP/Barrett.
Fournette, like him or not, he's the best back on the Bucs and the playoffs proved it. Ronald Jones was ineffective when it mattered. He's a boom or bust back, but, Fournette was the consistent one and made the big plays in the biggest games of the year. I don't think "millions of RBs" could do that crazy spin move TD against the Packers which might have been the difference in the game. But yeah, all isn't lost if they lose him, who knows, with RBs today the Bucs could possibly draft his replacement in the 3rd round or so which might be sufficient.
Antonio Brown is still a savvy ass vet receiver and a great weapon on third downs and the like. Yes, the Bucs still have the core of Evans, Godwin (for this year), and Miller, but looks like Mickens might be lost due to his recent felony charge. Brown is an underrated piece. Yes Brady makes mediocre WRs look better but Brown showed up when it mattered. Glad they got Gronk back after all, but 10mill? A little rich for a guy his age who is realisticall the 2nd TE behind Brate, especially in the regular season with Brate's younger legs.
Bucs will likely look to draft heavy at OL and in the secondary, and pick another back and receiver later in the draft. If they can't keep Suh then perhaps they can keep Steve McLendon instead - who is also old and should be cheap.
Ryan Succop is also a Free Agent by the way, and underrated but important that the Bucs keep him after 15 years of terrible FG kicking they finally have a good one. They must not let him go.

Senile Belichick thinks he's getting prime Gronk-Hernandez again but he's really just getting a very low rent version of that dynamic duo. Well, on the bright side, at least Newton is at his best when he's throwing to bigger receiving targets (big WRs and TEs as opposed to the smaller guys - remember the days of Benjamin/Funchess/LaFell/Olsen etc when Newton was at his best in Carolina, versus later on when the Panthers went with smaller targets).

Yeah the Agholor signing was the one big misfire yesterday. He’s at least a deep threat that the defense has to somewhat respect, which is unfortunately light years ahead of what they had last year.

i have nothing but good things to say about what Agholor did for us last year... came in on a prove-it deal and became one of the better deep threats in the league. he also showed more chemistry with carr than any receiver other than crabtree. sucks to see him go, but yeah they were never going to pay that much for him (maybe 7-8 mil per year).

Linsley to the Chargers to become the highest-paid center in NFL history. Packers have now lost 2 Pro Bowl offensive linemen (Linsley and Bulaga) to the Chargers in as many offseasons.
Packers got much worse by bringing back Jones at a replaceable position and losing arguably the best center in the league, albeit Linsley was very expensive, but the Packers really needed to bring him back -- PFF ranked him #1 in 2020 at center for both pass protection and run blocking. Outside of Bakhtiari, who's health is questionable, the Packers offensive line is no longer a core strength.
If Wilson goes go to Chicago it would be fun as hell to see Rodgers-Wilson twice a year for at least a couple years but the Packers might consider moving on from Rodgers and re-building because Wilson + that gaudy Bears defense would be better than the Packers with Aaron Rodgers, good set of offensive skill players but a shaky defense and now-shaky offensive line.

Really like Bama RB Najee Harris, at 6-2 230 with 4.4 speed what is not to like? Not a fan of using first round picks on running backs but hard to pass this guy up.

32, and, part of the Gruden's OLine overhaul, Gabe Jackson also getting cut. But financially it would have made sense to keep Hudson another year, and he's still a top 3 run blocking center and top 10 in pass protection. He has had a few snapping issues.

Oh nah, I picked them to start the playoffs as my Cowboys were long gone since week 5. I'm very proud of them for taking down GB in GB. And I love Brady. Fuck Rodgers.
Though I admire you and I'll be the first one to vouch for you that you stuck with the Bucs throughout the Winston and Freeman eras of suckiness.
Haven’t posted in a hot minute. But quick thoughts on free agency.
1. what the fuck are the raiders doing? Releasing/trading pretty much their entire offensive line. Then signing another running back to a pretty good deal. Just baffling.
2. wtf are the packers doing? Resigning Jones to a huge rb deal after drafting Dillon in round 2 last year. Resigning Kevin King and the corpse of Mercedes Lewis with money saved from restructures. Excited to see how we fuck up the draft this year.
3. teams free agency that I have liked. Jets have actually had a really nice free agency along with Washington, Denver, chargers, and Arizona. Will be interested to see if Broncos trade up to move on from drew Locke

great question tbh :lol
i have no idea what Gruden/Mayock are doing. they just seem to be improvising all the time. they're basically only replacing 2 OL members, though.
LT - Is and will be Kolton Miller
LG - they initially cut LG Richie Incognito, but they re-signed him to a cheaper deal
C - this one they actually moved on from. big question mark.
RG - they moved Gabe Jackson, but they re-signed Denzelle Good, who started almost all of last year at LG when Incognito was out, so this is still basically bringing back a starter
RT - they moved Trent Brown, but he only played like 4 games last year anyway
so really C is where they're going to feel it the most. they'll probably draft a RT in the first 2 rounds of the draft, given that they havent addressed it in FA. they've signed centers to replace hudson, but will be a huge drop
as for paying kenyan drake that much... unjustifiable. only silver lining is that our backfield is now Drake and Josh
they did make some nice moves.... getting Ngakoue to get us a legitimate pass rusher post-Mack was a slam dunk. and letting the Patriots overpay Agholor (11m per year) and replacing him with John Brown (3.5 mil) was a home run, too.

i think they have concerns about Jacobs' durability. he got banged up and missed games as a rookie, and also got banged up throughout the season last year, missed almost every practice, etc (only missed one game though)... so they're probably going to split touches. not 50/50, but maybe 66/33 or something. and in the event jacobs has to miss time or a few series, drake is still a legit lead back (unlike a pure backup grade runner like Deandre Washington or Devontae Booker)
i think there's a chance they cut Richard too. they're still in the hunt for a free agent FS and CB (and there are a few good ones left)

The biggest problem for the Packers was losing Linsley in favor of Jones. Linsley has consistently been the PFF #1 center for 2-3 years running (since the Cowboys' Travis Frederick suffered that career ending nerve injury).

1 year/3 million with potential for an extra million in incentives. It's not like they paid $13 million a year long term to keep a rotational running back.
Still think the Bucs need to draft or sign a scatback type, a guy that can pass pro and more importantly provide a safety valve for Brady to convert those valuable third-and-mediums, but not do what the Chiefs did and take one with a 1st or 2nd round pick.

Yea. It’s just a 1 year deal. I just meant more they could have drafted a rb late that was a true compliment to jones. Instead they are bringing back this guy who was awful 90% of the year and happened to have some decent games late

Agreed. Nothing to do with race. Same way I feel about Alabama QBs who usually tend to be white. Jake Coker, the guy before him. System and world-class o-line recruits makes them look way better than they are. Smaller programs like Texas Tech don't have the o-line to make a guy like Mahomes look like the generational QB he was coming out of college. Mac Jones might be a serviceable backup in the NFL, nothing more.
Fields is Dwayne Trashkins 2.0, and I had him pegged perfectly as a bust before he was drafted in '19. For the record I wasn't high on any of the '19 QBs, even Murray who I thought was probably a Lamar Jackson V2.0. I think teams are starting to get the hang of it -- latest mocks have Fields going as high as 15-ish but as low as the third round.

The others were unduly hyped more than they should have been. I keep hearing about the things Fields doesn't do and that leads me to believe they're making sure they get the token black guy in the mix (yes, I know that outlook hurts your feelings). The option read QB has been more successful in recent years in the NFL than in the past; but it's still not ideal.
CBS Sports has Justin Fields ranked 7th in QBs. I think that's probably about right.

mock drafts seem futile this year, so i'm not putting in the time to make one.
just gonna spit out some thoughts... the Niners would be insane to have given up all that draft capital just to take Mac Jones. the smoke has been nonstop, but for whatever reason i'm refusing to believe they're actually going to pull that trigger
as for the raiders in round 1:
best case scenarios: a blue chipper like Micah Parsons falls. doesnt fill a huge need, but imo you grab that talent. i feel similarly about Christian Darrisaw at OT. i like him more than Slater tbh...
scenarios i'd be pleased with:
- i'd be pleasantly surprised (but not holding my breath) that they'll take an edge talent like Ojulari or Phillips in the first round. doesnt seem likely.
- if Darrisaw is gone and EDGE isn't in the plans, i think trading back makes the most sense
- if they insist on making a pick at 17, i'd like Teven Jenkins, Trevon Moehrig, or Alija Vera-Tucker
wildcard scenario: take a gamble on Caleb Farley w/ his health issues.
anything else, like taking a LB not named Parsons, or reaching for another one of the tackles like Cosmi/Leatherwood... would be bad.

The Raiders need to stop living in mediocrity and either make the playoffs and contend soon or else trade Carr and tank because hovering around .500 isn't going to get the team anywhere, especially when the team continues to lose in ridiculously stupid ways like the Ryan Fitzpatrick Dolphins loss

dont like the move. like, i get the concept of getting your QB a legit #1. i get it. but first round WRs bust so often, whereas first round OTs tend to be the safest bets to pan out. and Sewell is a monster who is probably the best non-QB player in the draft. bad move tbh. they had just drafted Higgins last year, still have Boyd. could have taken a WR in a future round, but gotten themselves a cornerstone in Penei
but now dolphins probably feel dumb for pre-emptively moving back up to 6, as they probably thought one of Pitts/Chase would be there for them

If I was a GM, I dont think I could ever draft a Bama QB. Even if they are legitimately the most talented QB in the draft, it's gotta be a tough transition to go from a place where you can just sling it all over the place knowing your receivers will make the play pretty much everytime to an NFL game where the windows are tighter and that advantage is gone

I like the pick. He's the most talented defensive player in the draft, IMO 4th best player overall after Lawrence/Pitts/Sewell, and both corners were off the board. Oh, and we got a free third round pick from the Eagles.
Also great insurance for whenever Vander Esch gets injured again. And Sean Lee retired.

yeah, I would have preferred a corner, but there wasn't one there, so we traded down and picked BPA at a position of need on defense. Farley shouldn't have been picked in the first round; he's going to have a short career, people don't recover from two double back surgeries like that. Titans wasted another pick on a first round corner.

It was pretty serious hazing but from what I heard on the radio, he wasn't involved in the worst acts. And it sounded like much of the blame was to be placed on one of the coaches for knowing about it all and letting it continue.

Leno and Massey are both serious liabilities and have been for a long time. It's why Foles didn't work out and they had to keep trotting out Trubisky because a pocket passer just never had time to throw behind that disaster oline, especially since Kyle Long retired. Also the Bears run blocking has generally been putrid the past several years. The only running back who's had any success is Tarik Cohen running outside, then he got injured.

That's fine; but Spielman hasn't been in for much of that stretch.
I'd have to look at all the QB's he has drafted or not drafted.
I can't imagine he's higher than a D grade overall (in the lead-up to this draft).
But I'm just throwing up some sort of counter.
I thought Christian Ponder was far too big a reach at the time of drafting him.
He's a guy who was slotted to go in the third or fourth round.
Maybe second round if a team got desperate. Vikings showed they were a special kind of retarded.

Bridgewater with the last pick of the first round was a decent pick. He filled a desperate need at QB briefly; and he has even done better than the other first round QB's (Bortles, Manziel). And he was nice enough to get injured after two mediocre seasons and made moving on from him a low drama process. Had Vikings drafted Carr or Jimmy G, they may have been saddled with either for much too long. As it stands, 49 games started with a 26-23 record is serviceable. All this said, I never personally liked the Bridgewater selection at any point.

i dont think bridgewater was a disaster pick, but it should have been apparent that he had limited upside. he was a competent QB for the vikings, but just very low volume, few explosive plays. didnt make a second year leap despite peterson coming back and having a strong 2016.
but his injury also forced them to spend a first round pick in their trade for Bradford, who did come in and play very good football for a year. but thats 2 first round picks for 2 years of mediocre QB play and 1 year of above average QB play.
then they had to go spend a lot of money on Cousins for above average QB play (which is fine). i dont know that Mond is the answer, but a third round pick is a very worthwhile gamble for him. he is going to need time to learn, but they are locked in with cousins through the 2022 season anyway, so no rush for him to be ready even by next year. its a good gambit
but re: the bridgwater pick, carr has clearly been the best QB from that group, but you're basically capping yourself the same way the vikings currently are doing with Cousins. i think Cousins/Carr are in the same tier of qb. in any given year, i wouldnt be shocked in they play themselves into the 8-12 tier, but i also wouldnt be shocked if in a given year they played in that 14-18 tier

but his injury also forced them to spend a first round pick in their trade for Bradford, who did come in and play very good football for a year. but thats 2 first round picks for 2 years of mediocre QB play and 1 year of above average QB play.
then they had to go spend a lot of money on Cousins for above average QB play (which is fine). i dont know that Mond is the answer, but a third round pick is a very worthwhile gamble for him. he is going to need time to learn, but they are locked in with cousins through the 2022 season anyway, so no rush for him to be ready even by next year. its a good gambit
but re: the bridgwater pick, carr has clearly been the best QB from that group, but you're basically capping yourself the same way the vikings currently are doing with Cousins. i think Cousins/Carr are in the same tier of qb. in any given year, i wouldnt be shocked in they play themselves into the 8-12 tier, but i also wouldnt be shocked if in a given year they played in that 14-18 tier
The Vikes overpaid for Bradford; but it was otherwise the right move. The problem is that they have a dumb ass at coach who actually believed Case Keenum was a really good QB and the better option. I've never seen a QB single-handedly lose a championship game like that ever so egregiously like Keenum did in 2017. The Eagles even did drills to make sure their DB's were ready to catch the "balloon balls". Had the Vikes not slighted Bradford like that and kept him motivated, it's possible there could've been brighter pastures. The dude was a legit QB.

Maybe if he had played after the further development of QB protection rules.
The talent was there though.

SMH. All the cheap hits that led to injury that this guy took.
