They are though, at least that's what they've said. Episode 8 is winter/David, episode 9 is Salt Lake City. One of the promos even showed Joel in the hospital. I'm not sure how long these episodes are going to be though.

The 2 episodes remaining seem pretty straightforward. I wish episode 7 had more present day stuff with the flashbacks intertwined. Riley/Ellie didn’t need the whole episode

still think it told a good story. a lot of tie-ins with all the previous references. ellie kind of acting/talking weird when she told tess that she got bit inside the mall alone. answers how the fireflies found out about ellie. we learn about ellie's previous reference about having killed before and not wanting to talk about it. how she could have known about mortal kombat finishers (she explained to joel). her being angry reading some other girls diary "is this all they had to worry about?" sam having asked ellie about whether the person is still in there if they become a monster.

its definitely a part of the story they needed to tell. it just felt like it dragged at various parts and probably could have been condensed some. or have more sequences from the present and have the flashbacks be a little more intermittent. like, in addition to showing her finding the thread/needle, show her practicing shooting/hunting. would give her the confidence to stay with joel. but at the same time they wanted her dramatic decision not to leave to come after we hear Riley say that they should spend whatever time together they have left with one another. was the only episode of the series when i was like, glancing at the time to see how much was left :lol

While I understand the point of fleshing out the backstory for Ellie, i thought that it pretty boring in the game. i didn't even bother with it when i played the remastered version of it in september. they took the boring part of the story and made it into an hour long episode :sleep

While the show has been good overall, i cant help but feel somewhat let down. i get that we dont want to watch people stealthing around behind shelves and shiving infected/hunters in the neck, but man, the infected are barely in the show at all it feels like. really hoping the last two eps are bangers

As I said I don't need more action set pieces, but there are some things that could've been shown. I believe it was episode 6 where Joel told the Native Americans that some town was overrun with infected. Instead of telling the audience, that could've been a quick 30 second shot of them looking through their binoculars while Joel and Ellie were on their travels.

As someone who did not and probably will not play the game, I don't feel like I have any uncertainty about the dangers present. This is 20 years after the epidemic, correct? I think the sparseness is probably more accurate for the time. If there were swarms of infected around every corner, still 20 years later, that wouldn't seem reasonable to me.

The finale is going to be the shortest episode of the season at 43 minutes. I guess that makes sense if they eliminate the tunnel sequence and shorten the action during the climax. We still haven't seen the Ashley Johnson flashback though. Hopefully things aren't too rushed.

I was definitely one of those. But I think that was the writers' fault. She's been great these last few episodes.

Yup, writers in first few episodes made her character so unconcerned in dystopian world filled with zombies that I found her annoying.

Or put another way, her character’s behavior was not consistent with a show where Darwin Awards were being awarded by unforgiving zombies left and right for minor mistakes.

more than 43 minutes worth there is, imo, especially with a flashback scene including ellie's mom. Getting to Utah, getting to the Fireflies, I imagine they'll show more of Abby's dad to tie in the 2nd game more, joel's rescuing and the final scene as they head back to Jackson...feels like it should be more than 43 mins especially when 5-6 minutes of that is probably previous ep recap, title intro, and the end credits

other than that its just gameplay of you basically walking around until you reach action sequences that wont be in the show until you get to the hospital. theres some minor dialogue but nothing that would take more than a couple of minutes of screentime max

Not that this has anything to do with the show, but the entire Salt Lake section through the end of the game takes speedrunners about 15 minutes to do (skipping cutscenes) on grounded. The hospital itself takes less than 2 minutes to reach the OR. That's on remastered anyway, I haven't watched much of Part 1.

considering the cut out like half of the level and inserted a random story about joel trying to kill himself, i stand by my original comment. "you pet a giraffe" is still underselling the level prior to reaching the hospital. just because the show chose to condense everything and cut out the traversal through the tunnels/infected bloater encounters, ellie almost drowning, etc, doesnt change that fact imho.

tbh though i dont really need to justify my feelings on the show to you or anyone else, and vice versa. will say that i thought they did a really good job in the final two eps, minus the glaring lack of infected, it was fairly close to the source material which i appreciate. wonder how long it will take for S2 to come out

I'm really glad they made Joel's body count that high in the hospital since it's possible to get through that part only killing the surgeon. And I have to say, watching it hits differently that playing it (and struggling to get through the hospital sequence). Joel just emotionally shut down, and you could see he was just slaughtering people dispassionately. Either he was going to save Ellie or die himself, and either was okay.

I'm also glad they didn't try to shoehorn anything from Part 2 into this episode. They lingered a bit on the dead doctor, but that was enough.

yeah he went full terminator mode. was super dark, no ambiguity there. just the shots of his feet slowly, methodically moving forward were pretty menacing

My chick loves this show and so far I'm indifferent to it. I think it's better than most "zombie" flicks/shows just because it's more character building than anything compared to all other "zombie" takes. The gay angle doesn't bother me but damn the last episode it was so blatant what was being pushed and it was a bit weird pushing such issues between minors but that's Hollyweird for you unfortunately.

For me it's not about whether he deserves anything or not, especially in this world. It just shouldn't be a shock to anybody with everything he did throughout the story and during the 20 year gap. One thing I really liked about Part 2 (the TV show continued this as well to a point) is that everyone has a name. Whether it worked or not, they tried to make you feel the weight of your actions. Instead of a bunch of faceless redshirts, every person you kill has their own story and their own family they want to return to. And being able to see characters in a completely different context after you already killed them messes with your head a little bit.
