Actually we are worst than them inside, can't believe i'm saying this because they are trash at the rim

DeMar 4th quarter hero ball collapse vs any half decent team... Smh... But no, let's build around him until he is 35

DeRozan, Walker, Diop, Lyles, Poeltl. An offensive challenged lineup midway through the 4th. Great substitutions pattern Pop.

defense always looks uncoordinated. everybody just running around seemingly aimlessly as a reflex

PhantomDashCam
03-01-2021, 10:23 PM
Second chance shots. Damn. Keldon and DJ wouldn’t allow that crap.
Let’s bring Luka in for Lyles now, see what happens.

Where is Murray?

GreekSpursfan
03-01-2021, 10:24 PM
Yeah, Nets got it from here. If you replaced Mills with White the Spurs would've had a shot.

No they wouldn't because in order to beat them you need to punish them inside and we have nothing there, zero, can't even get our defensive rebounds

spurraider21
03-01-2021, 10:24 PM
giving up too many offensive rebounds. seems poeltl hasnt been able to control taps at all on the defensive end

SpurPadre
03-01-2021, 10:24 PM
They tried but they had to be almost perfect to beat a store-bought contender, even when they're missing their best player. Valiant effort but we're simply one of the very worst 4th quarter teams in the league missing several key players. Luka showed some signs, at least.

This. Defense has been discombobulated way too often tonight.

White is one of our best at driving and finishing, of course they'd do better. That doesn't even mention what he means on defense. You'd be replacing Mills with him, too, who has been a negative tonight.

Lol "store bought contender" ex-fucking-actly. Dirk's/Dallas' blood sweat and tears 2011 championship (Or any of our championships for that matter) are worth 1000x more than any of these pussy ass championships that the Nets will win. Harden and crew have no fucking shame.

Poodle and LMA the reasons we lost this game, soft as f, one doesn't have any offensive game to speak of, the other is super softex and can't go inside to take advantage of their shitty defense, because its shitty make no mistake about it.

Mr. Body
03-01-2021, 10:32 PM
Never really was a chance in this game. They gave it a shot. Feel like they lost it when Trey Lyles was subbed in. Suddenly couldn't get a rebound. Samanic needs to eat all his minutes.

Need some vintage Patty Mills magic here. 3pters

duncan2k5
03-01-2021, 10:33 PM
He’s the lead killer. Dude just thinks he’s better than he actually is

His 1 dimensional offense is too predictable...and he can't play off ball...so teams know what's coming...Nets are a horrible defensive team and even they are giving him grief in the 4th

LeBowen
03-01-2021, 10:33 PM
A hard fought game against a top contender, can't ask for more.
Except that Patty should be banned from taking more than one dribble.

If Keldon was playing, he would've shredded their non-existant paint defense.

My only legit concern is that we really lack a reliable 40%+ 3pt shooter in the starting lineup. Hopefully Lonnie becomes more consistent.

Robz4000

It's been said before, but the Spurs clearly have no viable defensive scheme. They give up more open looks and offensive rebounds than any other team I've seen this season.

Just like how Aldridge "would never come off the bench"? You say you keep receipts of people being wrong yet you never admitted you were wrong about this one. If Aldridge can have a reduced role, DeMar can too.

No, the problem is the guards had to hedge really high because their playmakers are three-point shooters. Then Harden or Irving get into the lane, Poeltl has to come over and the alley-oops are there. You'll see Poeltl and LeMarcus changed up to sag on the rolling big man after an adjustment.

I'm saying if we trust the coaching staff to put someone who isn't performing well on the bench, then we can trust them to know how a player will take it when they do get benched. Aldridge in a reduced role and accepts it gets a small contract with the Spurs, Aldridge in a reduced role and pouts doesn't get signed with the Spurs. Its a win/ win. If we can trust the team to assign other players as captains when other players like Aldridge and DeMar are no good anymore, then what's the fucking problem?

I'd say the final minutes of the 4th quarter was a surprisingly shocking demonstration of clutch play by the team but they still make alot of deer-in-headlights mistakes and let's be honest, the Nets took their foot off the gas. Still not taking anything away from the team, they played their asses off, shorthanded, against a real title contender that has spent alot of money to still be a threat without Durant.

I’d like to agree with you, but those are just 3 pt shots going in. He still doesn’t want to go in hard. Lonnie is too good to be just shooting 3’s. He could be breaking defenses and getting fouls inside. I’d be less critical if he weren’t so capable, but just holding back imo. Lonnie is capable of getting this team to the next level if he attacks like Keldon does.

Absolutely, not to mention they're literally missing all their wing depth, which is absolutely key in today's NBA in terms of switching, defense and rebounding, all of which SA suffered today. With White, Keldon and Vassell in those lineups, I have little doubt that we contain both Irving and Harden, and we can let Poeltl actually protect the rim instead of having to make up for the rest of the teams' shortcomings. Posters complain just for the sake of it, couldn't have done much better tonight given the circumstances.

I'm saying they've routinely had the same flaws on display all season since they got Harden. No team has won a title without a top 10 defense, theirs is bottom 10. They also have notorious playoff chokers and locker room cancers as their leaders, and said players are useless without the ball in their hands. The old Chuck-a-sarus reared it's ugly head again. I hate it when he takes a lot of those bad shots that he shouldn't be jacking up. Him and Rudy Gay are both chuckers who take bad shots, but they seem to make enough of them to keep getting playing time :(. I don't want to see these guys on the Spurs really. Patty sucks on defense too. Harden got a lot of easy points in the 4th quarter when Mills was on him.

Samanic was really good IMO. Very impressed with his play so far is the minutes he's gotten.

DeRozan, not sure what to say. I don't want to trash him again as it happens a lot, but again, this wasn't a lottery team and when the game was up for grabs at the start of the 4th quarter, Demar didn't do much. He was downright awful to start the 4th quarter and his lack of 3 point shot really limits his game. It allows teams to key in on him. Not sure if I want to pay him due to that weakness in his game. Teams can just run him off the three point line and crowd him when he gets inside.

Agreed I also factored in them getting phantom calls, touch calls, which is going to make them hard to stop. One thing that has impressed me when their big 3 has played is how unselfish all 3 of those guys been on the court in deferring to whoever has the hot hand. It seems like they have really bought into just playing to win. The best hope I think most people had was hoping their 3 stars would fight each other on who will get touches considering they are all ISO players.

The only team I think that has a shot at beating them is the Sixers. They have the size in Simmons,Harris,Green,Thybulle to guard their perimeter and have the size to score on them in the paint with Simmons,Embiid. Sixers will be their toughest match up.

Obviously it comes down to health but if the Nets big 3 are healthy they are going to win it all. The center of gravity KD,Kyrie,Harden can generate on the offensive end is too much for teams to handle. They are also smarter than PG/Kawhi in the sense that they are trying build team chemistry and camaraderie with the role players and making them feel they are part of the team. Kawhi/PG failed miserably at that by alienating their teammates which lead to a chemistry meltdown against the Nuggets.

Pretty spot on take on why the Clippers failed. Kawhi can be such an idiot and times. I mean, did he not think chemistry would be important, especially when he came from the Spurs and to a certain degree in Toronto who's city and players embraced him. It truly was a retarded move by both PG and Kawhi to alienate their teammates and not put the effort in to build camaraderie with them.

If I had to bet money even as a die hard Lakers fansxit would be on the Nets. But I wouldn't feel confident or comfortable about it. But I would have bet on Clippers last year BEFORE the season started. Harden has choked at times but Nets won't be relying on playoff pee pee. However KD needs to stay healthy...as good as Harden and Kyrie are they won't win a title without KD at 90%

I think the Nets have the potential to be a lot better than last year's Clippers. And if what Daslicer said it true about all three of them playing unselfishly and deferring to the hot hand, then IMO they are the heavy favourites, but I also agree with you that Durant has to be at least 90% for them to have that chance. I don't think Kyrie and Harden can do it between the two of them.

I watch the Nets almost every game. They're real. I thought getting Harden was going to screw the chemistry to hell, but Durant and Irving have completely settled next to him as the playmaker. They lost a ton of great role-players like Jarrett Allen in the trade, but what they have are playing at a high level. Not hard to do with such offensive geniuses around them, plus a guy like Joe Harris is one of the top guys in the league at what he does and Jordan is playing exactly like they need him to. He's feasting on lobs and blocks a lot of shots.

And now their defense doesn't look completely hellish. Nash is doing a great job. They're getting a long, which was the big question. They'll lose a good number of games and the question is open how it all clicks down the line, but the Eastern Conference is incredibly shitty and they should at least make the Finals. If Durant is healthy, look out. And imagine if Dinwhiddie was healthy.

That to me was the big key. Their defense is now middle of the pack decent. All they have to be on the defensive end is decent and get few stops here and there while on the offensive end they are a juggernaut.

Anyone catch the OT spatter between Dejounte Murray and Popovich? Derozan had to calm Murray down a little.

Murray overcommitted to the lane which left Irving wide open for a corner three, then threw the ball away on the next possession which led to a clear-path foul. That basically ended the game.

Pop let him know about it.

I am sure Pop also busted his chops for kicking the ball into the stands the other night - Tough Love is needed for Murray who I think can handle it- This though won't work with Walker and Poodle he needs a different approach to get the most out of them then yelling at them.
