I would write some inspiring and introspective dialogue here, but I gotta go wrap up some lawn work and then have some nice carne guisada simmering on the stove. Allan Rowe vs Wade was too lazy to start the game thread himself :lol
Spurs should be well rested since apparently nobody came to play yesterday. Let's hope they burned that tape and can bounce back in Detroit tonight.

Spurs are usually terrible on back to backs but like you stated no one really played yesterday well Eubanks did show some heart. It will be interesting to see who still had some dog in them and comes out to make a statement and who just sulks in the the corner and easily excepts another L?

Poeltl needs to change his jersey to 2 to get that sweet 1/2/3/4/5 lineup.
Adding a middle finger to Number Two would be icing on the cake.

Hopefully no more showcase games for Lyles lol. Give Mills and Gay the night off so Vassell and Luka can get some real playing time on a B2B. Throw both at Grant and see how they do on defense.

By the way, I really don't like Pop going back to Lonnie starting. It doesn't solve any problems in the SL (well, none except for making it slightly better, since Lyles isn't starting anymore). Lonnie was playing perfectly fine off the bench as well. Even if he does nicely today, he's still relegated to being third fickle in the pecking order, and it'll be even worse once DD gets back.
You know what the SL could really use? A really good 3pt shooter, that doesn't need the ball in his hands to be effective, and can compliment the defense-first mindset by playing weakside defense and passing lanes as well... Don't we have someone like that? Oh, too bad he's a rookie, and rookies just don't start under this Pop

I disagree here, when DeMar is out the team needs Lonnie more than anybody else. Besides that Lonnie is also a good 3-point shooter. Him coming off the bench with Chucky Mills and Rudy Gay won't help him. Once DeRozan is back he should come off the bench, but I wish Pop would give him the green light instead of giving it to Rudy and Patty

I'd agree with you if Pop limited Lonnie's starting opportunities to just games that DD misses, and I understand this game isn't the best example of my point, but it'll become a problem really soon considering Pop's unwillingness to adapt to changing situations. It'll probably be fine this game against a tanking Pistons squad, but will be a problem once DeMar is back and Lonnie is back to his deferring, passive self instead of looking to shoot aggressively like he does today. To me, the worrisome thing is both that Pop still considers starting Lonnie an apt solution, and the follow-up fact that he doesn't consider starting Vassell a solution, or anything at all really, when he's by far the best fit of the bunch IMO.

Vassell is a great fit with the starting line up when we're fully healthy, since he's a Danny Green type 3-and-D offball player. But White is also too good to come off the bench, he's just not 100% right now, so I'm not mad at that. I just think Lonnie should be the main scorer for the second unit and currently those are still Patty and Rudy

Yeah, I agree. To be honest, the only solution really, is either trading one of the young guards to make space, or starting them all - sans DeRozan. All three of Dejounte, White, and Vassell would be perfect playing alongside each other... DeRozan's presence hinders that option, and forces many of our players out of position. Wait, I'm assuming you meant "Keldon (small ball PF)", right? That's wayyy too small of a ball otherwise :lol but yeah, that seems to be it. TBCH though - I wouldn't rule out the possibility of any of those players, 2 to 4 (I think we can all agree Dejounte is a staple to start), being that 6th man off the bench, with a third-year-Luka manning the PF position. He offers actual size for the position, is a better 3pt shooter than Keldon (I haven't checked the stats, but I'm mainly looking at the form on their shots, and most importantly, willingness to shoot them), and his defensive switchability could be huge for this squad. Who to bench of White, Keldon, or Vassell, that's the tough question, they all bring so much to the table in different ways... But ideally, I don't consider a lineup where we play Keldon out of position "ideal".

- Love Vassell and what he brings to the table but would have loved to have had another 1st rounder to have nabbed I. Stewart.
He’s going to be tough for a long time.

To be honest, too, the way the league is played, it's simply much more common for lead changes at the last minutes, choke jobs, and blowouts, in general than ever before. Simply a product of too much emphasis on a shot as variable as the 3 pointer. Hell, everyone was crying over the Spurs getting blown out yesterday - I'd ask which team hasn't been blown out to bits this season? I'd love a statistic on that, I don't think there's any team that hasn't lost by 30+ points once this season. Really makes for a shitty product.

Eh, I'd say the eye test backs that stat up pretty solidly. I know you have a vendetta against 4th quarter Spurs, and it's hilarious, but aren't the Spurs also something like 15-2 whenever they get a 10+ point lead at any point of a game? I agree that the way the game is played now lends itself more to chokes and 30 point blowouts. Steph Curry ruined this sport, IMO.
Yeah, for sure. I'd counter-argue though: it's not that Curry ruined the sport, he just opened up the floodgates by showing the world how unbalanced the rules were/are and how they can be exploited with enough volume-distance shooting. In retrospect, it's insane that the NBA went so many decades without a 3pt explosion, it was just bound to happen the way the sport is constructed (and reffed). The REAL reason the game was ruined, IMO, isn't Curry, but other players believing they can be Curry, when they have nowhere near the talent or accuracy. No one should be able to jack up the shots that they do, but sadly the stats back it up, and so it goes.
I'm really wondering how many years it will take for the league to step in with some rule changes. My bet is, under 3 years at this current pace. There's no way this 3pt explosion doesn't implode on the league soon.

No I was legit talking about Murray at PF cause of the similarities on his game on offense to Demar (midrange threat, not a 3 point shooter, needing the ball etc. but I think your response makes a lot more sense lol. I would love if Luka could be a full time starter eventually. A rich man Lyles if you will.

I think the interview gives us a lot of insight for how the Spurs chooses their guys. Anticipating the effects of the pandemic on the NBA season, they sought out two players in the draft who were high character and knew they would get along with the folks on the team. I mean, it makes sense, the pandemic has tested a lot of relationships and even our mental health.
I think the interview clues us in that a big trade is unlikely because you would basically be introducing new people to a tight knit group and it will almost be impossible to form any rapport between teammates that way. We'll see.

Was just kidding brother. Spurs are all about that culture. This is why for me, post deadline the team will be most interesting. Shackles will be off. No incentive to play guys who consistently under perform.
I agree that while a trade with Walker included is unlikely, the LMA situation has clouded the water somewhat.
Think to get any kind of useful return, somewhat of a prized asset (young player, pick) will have to be included.

We'll see.
Very true Dejounte! This damn pandemic ended my previous relationship even though being separated from her was tough for me too...eh it shows that she wasn't worth it anyway if she wasn't willing to get through this tough time for the both of us together...

Notice how he emphasizes character.
It's a huge indicator of what the Spurs will look for in the upcoming draft. Guys who are good people.
