View Full Version : Bold Weather Prediction: Spring will be very dry in San Antonio

Last La Niņa this strong was in the winter of 2010-11, leading to the great drought spring and summer of 2011. This year will NOT be wet and stormy in San Antonio like last year. There will be a lot of tornadoes this year, but well off to the north and especially east. San Antonio will be predominately bone-dry, like 2011...

There is a lot to lose on ST if you are wrong, so go boldly.
Hater has been devastated by wrong. Stopped him cold.

summer down here just went past like nothing hot happen, only had 2 days that was very hot while rest of the summer was just like any ordinary tempreture day, compared to the previous year where the whole country was fighting bushfires everywhere

Streak broken with tonight's rain. Hopefully more in May before the summer heat turns on.

Very bizarre May in SA considering La Niņa. Usually we would have drought. But it's been much more like 2010 than 2011.

Cold fronts are lasting longer, summer is damn hot, winter is damn cold. But overall our avg global temp rises and our predictions get sketchy. Old patterns are dying. Good luck. There will be plenty of energy to form low pressure systems like we just had in San Antonio. So now we deal with them. Overall this rain has been wonderful for SA. The aquifer rises, let the tropical conditions continue I say.

I don't agree.

i.e. this has been one of the 'coldest' May's for most of the US including San Antonio. Yes, the general monsoon pattern has contributed largely to it this year. Usually we have multiple days in the mid and upper 90s by now. I don't know if we've hit 90 all May.

Yeah.
Kinda what the models suggest. Temperature EXTREMES while the AVERAGE global temp continues to rise.
You understand an average can go up and you can still get parts of the world setting RECORD lows?
And you dont have to agree with the facts from science. Global average temp is rising.

2 degrees over 100 years? rofl.

look at any sea surface temperature map on the web... while the Arctic Basin is generally warmer than average every year, the Antarctic is colder than average every year. It's more polar shift than global warming. Also we've been in La Niņa now for 2 years so the sea surface temps across the globe are on average cooler.

still, global warming and ice ages have happened tens of thousands of times in the past... No evidence human-caused pollutants and/or human-caused CO2 levels are changing the climate nor the weather.

It's June and it's 66 degrees (yes, that's Fahrenheit) in the middle ("heat") of the day, 3pm in the afternoon, in San Antonio, Texas.

This year... wait till summer.

And using one place as an example that the Earth's Ocean temp and atmospheric temp not rising it just pure stupidity.

If we could just deal this rain out in July and August...

The Aquifer is in great shape and I cant wait for the rivers to the North of us to clear up for some kayaking.
They are running hard right now, so the changes should be interesting. We will probably have to move more trees and such out of good runs, but hardly any portaging. The places where we will paddle upstream will be tough, but its worth it if we can clear stuff so the way back down will be a breeze.

The fishing should be fun. The hellgrammites should be abundant so if artificial lures dont work, we can use these. I might try to keep and cook some channel catfish this year. They taste really good in fast running water unlike the pond fed crap. No fat on the inside.

I decided to give a river and fishing report, as well as a wish for rain spread out over the summer.

Oh good lord.. In consecutive postings by our climatologist.

Do you know what July thru Oct is going to do to those numbers?
Summer is hot here. Those numbers are not up yet.
And we will have some places hitting records low temps, but far more will hit record HIGHs for the year.

Might as well move to fucking Seattle.

Summer is always dry in Seattle. Their koppen climate is Csb, 'temperate Mediterranean climate', denoting the summer Dry Season.

Most of the western half of California (except for SF and nearby areas) is Csa, which has a similarly dry summer, but significantly warmer temps.

Most of Texas, including San Antonio, Houston and DFW, has a Cfa climate - hot-summer four-season humid climate; thus, rain and precipitation is likely in all four seasons, though admittedly there tends to be a wetter bias in Spring and Fall than in summer.

So far we have the coldest wettest July on record, currently slightly edging out 2002, which was the only other July in my lifetime where SA has had so much rain and cloud cover.
