If you merge: Total Points + Points Generated per Total Assists + Points Generated Directly By Setting the Screen ...

You get...

For the Spurs Team:

DEMAR: 39 with Total Points Generated on Offense Per Game (TPGO)

MURRAY: 29,4

POELTL: 24,2

WHITE: 23,5

MILLS: 19,2

KELDON: 19

GAY: 16,8

LONNIE: 16

EUBANKS 11,7 (Limited minutes)

TPGO of the players this forum want the most:

LAURI MARKKANEN: 21,7
JOHN COLLINS: 26,5

TPGO of some random players around the league:

ANTHONY DAVIS: 33,6

JASON TATUN: 37,9

BEN SIMMONS: 38,6

KEVIN DURANT: 43,1

JOEL EMBIID: 43,6

KYRIE IRVING: 44,7

LEBRON JAMES: 46,8

STEPH CURRY: 47,6

DAME LILLARD: 49,8

LUKA DONCIC: 51,5

GIANNIS: 52

JAMES HARDEN: 54,3

NIKOLA JOKIC............................. (58,7)

SOME THOUGHTS....

- DEMAR has a TPGO of 39 which makes him better than some of the elite players on this list. Extend him.
- The rest of our team have near half or less TPG than the elite offensive players in this league.
- The Nets are loaded.
- LeBron is still elite even at 57 years old.
- Harden and Giannis are special.
- Jokic is a beast!

What exactly does "points by screen" mean?

Points a player generate directly by setting the screen.

Ok, setting a screen for a player who scores. That right? 2 points of credit on that?

But is there a similar way to calculate points given up on defense?

And get a net result.

yes and no.
Some screens can generate 3pointer too.

NBA.com show the aggregate number.

NBA.com show the total aggregate of (2)'s and (3)'s.

Some screens generate 3 pointers too.

I don't know.
the idea is to understand the kind of offensive weapon we have with a certain player.

Even if he is a bad defensive player, front offices should build the team aroud great offensive weapons like Trae Young.

Having a screener who can actually shoot or do something with the ball, would be great, Jokic 58,7. Poeltl can’t even shoot free throws :lmao. Granted Poeltl can put a mean screen and get Patty open 3’s. But to be able to screen and get more options, maybe roll, or switched to a smaller defender to punish, which usually happens to Patty :lol.

Wendell Carter Jr. - 30,4
Richaun Holmes - 29,1
John Collins - 26,5

One of these options would be good for us.
Holmes and Carter Jr would have to accept the bench role.

Both Holmes and Carter Jr. set great screens and are having more impact on the offensive side than all of our players excluding Demar.
Not talking about defense here...

There's no doubt that DeRozan generates points. I don't think that was ever in question. The real question is: at what cost? I think opposing coaches love seeing DeRozan on the floor -- you know he's not shooting a three, and you know you can focus your offensive sets to take advantage of his defense. Giannis, Embiid, AD, Bam, and Kawhi play game changing defense. DeRozan does too, but unfortunately in the negative sense instead of the positive.

Really should normalize it to per 48 min of play kind of stat. Otherwise isn't too relevant given the difference in minutes played... tbh

I understand and agree but the impact of a player is the impact of a player. You can't wish a player to play 48 minutes if he usualy plays 32.
Facts are facts.

If Kawhi played for 39 minutes, he would get injured. The same for Derrick White. What a player plays is what he plays.
Even without the Per 48 stat, the best players have the biggest ratings. It's their usual production.
Some players are not rated with justice because they are not used the best way but, facts are facts and stats are stats.

Yes

- Take it for what it is. I've done it just for curiosity and the results show that we are not that great with the present roster / rotation.

- Both Mills and Gay should not share the court at the same time. They are below league average players. Pop should use one of them with Demar, Murray, White and Poeltl to remain competitive.

- Our starting line-up is a solid one, not great. We lack an elite scorer or big that can play 4 with the starters and 5 with the bench mob.

- as an offensive weapon, you must be an elite scorer, passer or screen setter. The starters miss a scorer and the bench lacks everything as it is for now.

- I've been saying that we should avoid the 5 starters/ 5 replacements rotation. We should sub the starters to have some breather and then put them in again like kind of the Jazz do. We don't have a decent player coming from the bench. Only Mills can be decent in my opinion for now. Lonnie is to injury prone and Gay is not the player he think he is.
