View Full Version : Shams: Spurs Fined $25K for Violating League’s Player Resting Policy

Lol. NBA backloads games so our schedule is packed and then they do this when we rest a guy or two. Meanwhile Al Horford is sipping on Piña Coladas in Mexico for the remainder of the season and KD is playing 1 in every 15 games in Brooklyn.

How did they violate the testing policy? They gave plenty of notice on the injury report early in the day... And it’s not like this caused low viewership.... Spurs only had ONE nationally televised game ALL year! And that was because it was changed from another game.

They should fine the Spurs $25k for tanking every time Patty, Rudy and Demar get the most minutes. :lmao

Fining an NBA team $25k is about the equivalent of fining a jaywalker a nickel.

These go hand-in-hand, and yes, I absolutely believe the ping pong balls will/would swing in the Spurs' favor come lottery time (though depending on Pop's stupid antics, we might just get too low a lottery pick for the outcome to be realistically affected; we ain't winning the lottery if we only have like a 2% chance of moving up). This is straight up posturing by the league, meaningless to the Spurs' bottomline. I absolutely believe (without an ounce of evidence, mind you) that there's more to this story behind the scenes. We shall see...

Fans should be able to fine the Spurs every time Patty runs up the court and fires up a rushed three pointer 6 seconds into the shot clock. Patty “tunnel vision” Mills.

You have a right to use your roster at your discretion, if it's a player in a spurs jersey it's eligible for mins.

Fuck Stern and Silver for this bronze level bullshit. Just like back in 12 with that Heat game, last night was exciting basketball played by eligible players so what's the big deal?

We almost won that heat game and did win last night. The heat game was exciting objectively and last night was great for spurs fans and only the fault of the suns for being objectively boring for non spurs fans.

Where's Chris Paul's fine for being soft baby shit last night?

100% this. Spurs played 12 of their 15 eligible players. And the Spurs won running away, so what the hell is the problem?

Do they really think that they hurt a lot of feelings because DeMar (ESPN's 82nd best player in the league, didn't even deserve an All-Star spot) didn't play? Or were they really lining up to see Patty Mills or Jakob Poeltl?

Meanwhile, teams like the Clippers, Sixers, and Nets are resting guys like it's naptime at a daycare center, and the NBA doesn't make a peep.

Honestly, Adam Silver can go shove that $25K up his ass.

Great point about how DDR was ESPN'S 82nd best player this year.

League is basically issuing the fine because it felt the spurs held back on entertainment value yet ESPN who is responsible for all the narrative injected entertainment elements to the current version of our game says DDR is barely even in the top 100 most entertaining players to watch.

So which is it? Is DDR barely a top 100 player or is his absence so detrimental to the entertainment value of your product that you're willing to fine over it?

What a shit show and I think Silver is doing too much.

Aren’t you the one always bitching about “Scumbag” and what he did to us? Leaving because Pop was the one in charge and not him. And now that kind of entitlement is all over the league. No one cares about the old white man being in power, only that Silver picks and chooses what’s fine and what’s not. He’s a big reason to blame for the state of what the league is now.

Except I've never once criticized him for leaving. My contention has always been with how he left and specifically what it did to his value and by extension this franchise.

Even if subconsciously, many care. People are so used to that being the way of things that when it's not it seems off to them.

This is such a bullshit rule. What if Pop just sit DeMar, Patty and Jak on the bench and just never subbed them in? What if he just says "I gave all of them DNP's coach's decision, tactical decision". Who the fuck is Silver to tell a coach who should or shouldn't play?

Also what if DeRozan just says "I have a headache". How do you disprove that shit? This is just such a retarded rule without a single leg to stand on.

R. DeMurre
04-18-2021, 11:58 PM
This is one of those rules that's so easy to get around, and it seems to me that rather than potentially incurring fines or lectures from the league, it would just make more sense to invoke a generic issue as the reason for sitting someone. Instead of saying "rest" or "load management," say something like "Player X experienced tightness in his lower back during practice" or "Player Z had abdominal pain after eating a room service meal, and we're concerned he might have food poisoning." This is, after all, the same league that says players who flop will be fined, and then goes entire seasons without issuing a single flopping fine, even though the rest of us get a good laugh watching youtube videos with literally dozens & dozens of clear and obvious flops.

I feel like Pop and the Spurs know the rules about resting well enough to circumvent them if needed.

The more I think about it, I feel like this was an intentional slight to the schedule makers and the fine was fully expected. Like others have said...they could have easily made up bullshit reasons instead of just listing it as "rest"

That would mess with the averages of players....essentially a game played with no stats to show for it. I wouldn't blame them for not being on board with that plan.

My thoughts exactly. Pop's unhappy with the league for the compressed schedule. Last year they didn't make teams even up the games played before determining the bubble invites. Why not just do that this year and base seeding on winning percentage? Same situation...games canceled due to Covid.
