Add that to JaKarr bumping and pushing Patty out of bounds in the second half ... and I can see why Patty had enough at that point. What I'm seeing in this and also the out-of-bounds love shove play is that Patty goes fairly hard and takes a cut off angle in his attempts to block out. Hey he kind of has to with his shrimp status. But it could be taken as over aggressive.

Patty head barely comes up to Jakaars shoulder. Jakaar just by putting his arm out for position he could have ended up tapping Pattys neck. OTOH note Patty wrapping his right arm completely around Jakarr and trying to tug boat him out of the rebound.

I think we need to look earlier in the game to see if more stuff happened prior to instigate this.
And/or do these two have a history going back to previous games?

The NBA has lost its grip on what competitive play should look like. The physicality of the game, and sometimes the scuffles that come with it, all make it more exciting to watch. I used to love the rivalries where guys hated each other, or particular teams, and let them know it. The old Detroit Bad Boys versus Bird and the Celtics is a prime example. I didn't like either team, but I enjoyed watching the rivalry. That kind of stuff is dead. The intensity just isn't there anymore. It's all a show now, and after a performance the actors all hug and take a bow.
