Spurs challenge call

timtonymanu
04-30-2021, 09:16 PM
Didn't even realize Tatum had 56....that's impressive no matter what side you are on

He's the only reason the Celtics made this competitive.

Leetonidas
04-30-2021, 09:16 PM
Sucks thats gonna be a jump ball because that should have been spurs ball on the turnover

ace3g
04-30-2021, 09:17 PM
Call reversed, jump ball upcoming.

I'd rather have Williams on the lien than a jump ball.

ace3g

All that and allow a Brown corner 3...

Leetonidas
04-30-2021, 09:18 PM
Fucking bullshit man and of course brown has been scubbing it up the entire game and hits the game winner

You win some, you lose some.

No one is forcing you to watch.

That's the exact mentality that got us to this point.
We don't have the winning mentality anymore.

We've become chokers and mental midgets. You don't have to be a great team to take the game seriously and prevent 32 point comeback.

Shame on us... What a terrible game... Lack of personality...expecially from our coach. The refs were giving to Boston an incredible amount of and 1 without reason... With no one protesting they were allowed to do that for too long till the point to put the game in reach again for Boston... That is inexcusable. We had our advantage thanks to good game and percentages... They went back yhaks to an incredible amount of call on their favor with no one saying a word to let the refs stop favoring the home team...

Worst loss in the last 30 years. At least after the 2013 Finals, we still had the big three and a young Kawhi to look forward to the year after. In 1996, we had a lotto pick. We have nothing in our near future except treadmill picks, middling talent and a front office run by a castoff from Pistons/Magic. Spurs are a joke of a team with no future. Extending Demar in the summer will be the cherry on top of the shit sundae

80% screw-up on Pop but Lonnie didn't even try. If you are a dunker like he is he needs to power thru that weak as defense. Just jump in the direction of the rim and in today's NBA that will be a foul. He should be able to immediately recognize the position the defender is taking and either execute the play or understand you need to make the refs call something.

I take it back.. it's 99% on grampa for not knowing Lonnie is really a soft player.

I only saw the last 10 seconds of overtime. But this sounds VERY depressing...

Bill, I’m going to be honest, it was almost comical for me. I would usually take losses like this poorly but I just laughed at the comedy of errors laid out before me.

The icing on the cake was a play drawn up for a Lonnie Walker Alley Oop - off a Rudy Gay lob, from out of bounds that ended up in that same, very fitting position too by sailing out, high over his head on the other side of the court.

I’m assuming the secondary action was for a Jakob 3 in the corner…

Such a tough game to grade as Spurs played some of their best team basketball in the first half all year and then inexplicably went away from it as Boston tightened the screws.

This loss may fester for some time…

This is why I think this summer the spurs need to do everything in their power to find there next franchise player. Easier said then done but every player should be available at draft time if they believe they can trade up for a player who could be the next franchise player because let’s be real I love the young guys but none of them are franchise players

Cheers bro. Thanks for the breakdown. I've seen references already to the infamous "Lonnie Lob" play in the thread. Not sure I'll look it up on Youtube. I see Lonnie scored 24, so do we take comfort in that? He's getting 20 point games more frequently. Or was he a turnstile on defense?

IMHO, Lonnie wasn’t the problem, it was Gay throwing the pass. He just isn’t very good at sharing the ball and the play wasn’t there, Lonnie was too well guarded. Needed to get the ball in play first and run another set. A PG would have seen that, there was still plenty of time on the clock too. It was just, in all honesty, a bizarre play that punctuated an embarrassing second half performance.

I thought Poeltl was rock solid all night, as well as KJ. Lonnie was a reason the lead didn’t diminish sooner. His shot making kept us in it.

Our entire offense is nothing but midrange isos. Shitty coaching combined with low iq players makes this the most painful team to watch in Spur history

Mills showed why his 'veteran leadership' is a scam. "Oh, but he's teaching the young ones the championship way!". Please.

When things were quickly spiraling, that was when Mills needed to be the level headed vet to take control and use the clock to get a good shot. Instead he cold checks brick 3s at the start of the clock. Lonnie does it and I get it, he was actually making threes and is on his first deal. What the hell is Patty's excuse?

And at the end of the first half was pure Mills. Guaranteed bad shot or turnover to end quarters, and sure enough he dribbles the ball out of bounds and blames Lonnie.

And on the next defensive possession he gets easily handled and then pathetically flops, and the only reason there wasn't a Boston dunk on the pass after the help rotates to cover for Mills trash defense is that the pass was bad

And they will continue in soft tank mode as long as they keep relying on Derozan. They need to embrace the hardcore tank, trade away some of the young guys to get better talent. Staying as is will do them no favors in the long run. They should have embraced the tank after Nephew quit on them.

With the way the Spurs have been handling player injuries the past several years, not to mention horrible FO decision one after the next, why do we still somehow assume Kawhi didn't have a legit gripe with the FO?

https://twitter.com/JeffGSpursZone/status/1388331936704237569?s=20

Do you really think things weren’t going your way when you were up 32 pts, shooting 71% in the first half?
That 1 or 2 plays were the difference in the game?

Lonnie’s quote:

https://twitter.com/JeffGSpursZone/status/1388607969575776259?s=20

Confidence is a major issue with this team. They love it when things are going their way, hitting shots, playing together etc.

When times get tough, they often wilt, go into their shell and lack trust in one another.

Now if that doesn’t strike you as somewhat reminiscent of what has been said about DDR for his whole career, I don’t know what else to tell you.

We have been blown out and also lost large leads with White... Just accept he ISNT that guy... He is about to be 27 and hasn't scored over 15 points, or dished out over 3 assists per game for a season... He is wildly inconsistent and injury prone... Murray is 2 years younger and is better than him by most metrics, and has a higher PER... I trust that prime Murray will take us farther than prime White... Ppl forget Murray was our best player earlier in the season while the team was winning without White... If he was on another team we would laugh at them for thinking a 27 year old with his stats and history is their future savior... White will never be anything more than a pretty good starter or an amazing 6th man

I actually noticed that Murray was losing his cool when things were getting tighter in the 4th. I felt Murray had a really bad second half, especially in the 4th. As a whole, only Walker and Poeltl seemed to have the balls to make plays. Everyone else was desperately trying to get the ball to DDR and just hoping he could get them over the line. Celtics then just stacked the court. Smart was getting physical with DDR and DDR was getting tired.

I somewhat agree. White inconsistency this year is because of missing pre season, getting covid upon returning, and overall everyone getting use to White again. I agree that Murary should technically be a better piece going forward. But it comes down where the Spurs are taking this off season. If they going for more of win now move as they have the pieces, their picks and cap space to go after a big name on the trade market - then White makes more sense as he is a glue guy right now. However, if the Spurs lose DDR and decide to go with a youth movement by going after EG Collins, then you'll obviously take Murray going forward.

White's metrics and eye test show he's the most impactful Spurs player. He had the best +/- of anybody on the roster this season with the highest offensive rating per NBA.com. He does a lot of little things that don't show up in the box score like taking charges, contesting jump shots, etc...Unfortunately, the injuries are getting difficult to ignore and perhaps a bench role where he closes might be the best option next season. Too bad, he was having the best month of his career before the injury too. An interesting statistical analysis re: his +/-

That being said, Murray's improvement has been tangible this year. He's already a good player and still young with room to grow. I like his attitude and think he can be an AS. It's strange there are so many Murray/White haters on this board because these two were late first round picks who have become good players with potential to further develop. Most teams would love to have either. Neither is 'the guy' but Spurs' fans should love both.

Pop doesn't get the concept of small ball...he literally thinks players have to be small...but small ball isn't a thing anymore...the best teams are big...it's just that bigs can shoot and dribble now more often than past years...back then u had to go with small players because they were the only ones that could shoot and dribble fairly well
