San Antonio (5-1) at Washington (4-1)

Game Info: 7:00 pm EST Sat Nov 12, 2005
TV: NBATV, CSNB

The San Antonio Spurs look to end an impressive road trip on a winning note as they visit the Washington Wizards.

San Antonio, which finished 21-20 away from the SBC Center en route to the NBA title last season, improved to 3-1 on its first trip after Tim Duncan had 29 points and 12 rebounds in a 103-82 victory at Boston on Friday night.

Point guard Tony Parker continued his impressive start to the season, adding 23 points for the Spurs

Parker has scored at least 20 points in five of the Spurs' six games, and is averaging 22.5 while shooting 58.2 percent, a considerable improvement over the 11.9 points on 37.8 percent shooting he averaged at the same point during his first four seasons.

"I see Tony as somebody who's trying to prove a point," Spurs coach Greg Popovich said. "He's been hellfire since the season started, all through training camp ... He's probably our most consistent player right now."

Washington responded well after its first loss of the season, pounding Seattle 137-96 on Friday night, behind Gilbert Arenas' 32 points. Caron Butler scored 24 points and Antawn Jamison added 19 and 11 rebounds for the Wizards, who hadn't broken 100 points this season before reaching the mark with 2:04 left in the third quarter.

It was the first time since a Feb. 22, 2000, game against Milwaukee that Washington scored at least 100 before the fourth quarter.

"There's no sympathy in this league ... not for a team that came in here limping a little bit," Wizards coach Eddie Jordan said.

This will mark the first time Washington has played home games on consecutive nights since March 4-5, 2003.

STANDINGS (through Nov. 11): Spurs - 1st place, Southwest Division. Wizards - 1st place, Southeast Division.

PROBABLE STARTERS: Spurs - F Bruce Bowen, F Duncan, C Rasho Nesterovic, G Parker, G Nick Van Exel. Wizards - F Jared Jeffries, F Jamison, C Brendan Haywood, G Jarvis Hayes, G Arenas.

TEAM LEADERS: Spurs - Parker, 22.6 ppg and 5.8 apg; Duncan, 11.6 rpg. Wizards - Arenas, 24 ppg and 5.8 apg; Jamison, 9.5 rpg.

2004-05 SEASON SERIES: Tied. 1-1.

LAST MEETING: Feb. 9; Wizards, 95-87. At Washington, Jamison had 35 points and 11 rebounds as the Wizards salvaged a tie in the season series.

ROAD/HOME RECORDS: Spurs - 3-1 on the road; Wizards - 2-1 at home.

NBA tv has it.

So, I second your wish, but don't know if it is realistic against this team in their building.

They are holding opponents to 38.7% shooting, the lowest in the NBA?

They were not a good defensive team last year (excepting steals- Larry Hughes).

We're not playing great, but not horrible either.
This looks like a nail biter which we know Arenas can win for the Wizards.

Tim should be scoring more, more efficient than he has been.

Tony is shooting better than 50 % at 6/11 which is good. However, his j seems off.

Tim continues his stellar free throw shooting.

We are giving up too many offensive rebounds to Washington.

Need to tighten up our d a little, not giving their shooters (esp Jamison and Arenas) room to shoot. Close out on them.

Unless somebody knows something I don't know, this is not going to have a happy ending.

Everything Arenas throws up is falling, we're are not playing good defense on him and Tim is shooting horribly, one of the worst nights I have ever seen him shoot.

Seattle and Detroit did this to him last year. Physical play hurts Tim's game.
If you have a mobile, muscular, athletic big who plays Tim hard and very physical, Tim does not play that well.

That is why it is frustrating to not be able to watch the game and see the nuances. Stats-wise, it seems like a decent effort, just the bad luck of having Arenas getting possessed with the spirit of MJ on us. Obviously this is more on the Spurs than it is on Arenas.

This game matters. Winning against the Hawks and the Bobcats counts for nothing at all.

They should have put forth effort tonight. The Hawks game means nothing because they are not a good team.

They shouldn't think that actually putting forth some effort against the Hawks in any way mitigates against this or atones for it at all. It doesn't.

Tim brought his F game and nobody felt like they should expend effort by guarding Arenas.

Missing layups is about concentration. Tim did not concentrate tonight. Tony didn't defend Arenas tonight. I guess they had other more important things on their minds. On the other hand, they are paid a lot. Perhaps a little bit of effort and concentration might be called for.

Maybe so. There is a world of difference between how the Spurs are playing and how the Pistons are playing. Focus and concentration.

It's weird. If one does not want to work hard out of one's moral ethics, one would think that at least pecuniary factors might motivate a person.
Guess not.

It's just kind of a shame.

I think that we are trying to prove that we can beat sorry teams at home by a lot, good teams at home by a little, that we can beat sorry teams on the road by a couple of points and that any good team will absolute demolish us on the road, especially if we happen to have gotten lucky the previous night.

There is absolutely no excuse for this at all. Why can't they figure out that I don't care if you beat the Celtics by 30, you had better put forth your best effort and play hard and concentrate against a good Washington team on the road. Don't they realize that one does not automatically win the game following a blowout victory? It's really not that complicated.

And Arenas did his damage in only 29 minutes. Jamison scored 19 in only 21 minutes as well. That's efficient.

Det won two tough, close games on the road, back to back.
They are playing like the Champs.

If they were playing like the Champs, they would have lost by 15!

Yes the Pistons are playing like the champs they are. Spurs are in trouble and their fans know it. If only sheed had a brain we would be talking 3 peat but it happens. Pistons will win about 67-68 games this year. Our Offense is just sick we have the best bench in the league, the best Pg,most underrated coach, possibly the best O and D combined etc etc. Pistons want the title back and I see them getting it back because their hungry spurs fans. Enjoy your fun last year cuz it wont last. Pistons are proving to the world they are great and will be champs in june 2006 :king . WE ARE THE ONLY UNBEATEN TEAM LEFT IN THE LEAGUE AND YOU GUYS ARE ALREADY WORRIED I CAN SMELL IT ON YOU. HEY MAYBE YOU GUYS COULD MAKE IT OUT OF THE WEST STILL :lmao :lmao THAT IS IF YOU AVOID THE MAVS.

If we keep getting slaughtered on the road every time that we play a good team, what does that say about us? What kind of confidence will that inspire in the playoffs? We won't have home court advantage since we're going to lose about half of our road games, like last year. Then, we're going to have to try to have confidence that we can win games on the road just like we did in the regular--- oh, wait we were mauled by every good team we played on the road.

Arenas > Parker, Haywood > Duncan, at a minimum this was true tonight.

The first one is easier to accept than the second one. The second one is hard for one to contemplate. However, we must admit that Haywood & Company owned Tim, outplaying Tim and shutting him down.

Are the Spurs that cocky that just because they win a game the previous night, they simply assume that they will run over the next team they face?
Looks like it. Maybe this will bring them back to Earth. If this happens enough, then maybe they will get tired of having their heads handed to them on a platter after a win the previous night, recognize a pattern and decide that they are tired of being blown out and embarassed the night after a win.

The Spurs have yet to win convincingly against a top team. Can they do it? I am not sanguine as to the chances that they can. And until they prove otherwise, I maintain my view that this will be repeated through out the season.

Hypothetical example: beat the Hawks by 30 at home or in their arena and the next night play the Pistons in their place and lose by 30 or Indiana or Miami or Houston (when Miami and Houston are healthy)...

watching the post game interview here in D.C w/ arenas. He said he had something to prove b/c last year he shot 0-12 against spurs.

There's a lot of talk around the league about the top young guards that usually centers around Arenas and TP. He wanted to prove who was top dog tonight.

It hurts like to see the Spurs lose so badly to good teams,
but after only 7 games, it's stupid to make generalizations about the entire season.

IDIOT. don't crap all over their game blog. Don't jump into this conversation just to be braggidocious about your team. Show a little class.

This is not the place for your thoughts on the Pistons. If you feel the need to be a shit talker, at least start your own thread in the NBA News Central section.

Comon man look at how dominate out fucking team is. We are unbeaten and hungry and the title is ours as long as we stay hungry. They got fortunate which is part of the game they wont have it as lucky as they did a year ago. This team wants to be champs again and god damnit they wont accept coming up short again. This team is DOMINATE and will sweep through the east and beat the spurs in a competitive 6 games. If we stay healthy we will go 68-14 Delfino is proving to be very Manu-Like and Arroyo is the best backup pg in the nba along with the best backup bigs in the league in Dice and Darko. We also have the best starting 5, the best pg in the nba, the best defense and offense, and the most underrated coach in the entire NBA. Man this is gonna be a fun year for us Pistons to dominate the east and be crowned world champs again when we dethone your senior citizen asses :lol .
