I just called them and asked them to lower it. It was a variable rate, and it had crept up, but I hadn't paid much attention to it until this billing cycle, when I realized how high my balance was. I checked it out and paid nearly $100 in finance charges. No way I can pay it off anytime soon if my rates are so high.

So I called and asked them to lower it. I had a whole thing prepared about a better offer, but I didn't even have to say it. They just flat out offered me a new rate. And they gave me a choice between a fixed or variable rate (I took the lower variable rate).

They even offered me a balance increase. I politely declined. :lol

If you have a high interest rate - call the number on the back of your card and ask to renegotiate the APR.

Yep, it's new legislation so that if you pay the minimum, it won't take 56 years before you get the balance paid off.

you should've bluffed him into giving you a better deal. Usually, you can get your % down to 3 to 4 percent if you say that isn't good enough.

Guys I work for a credit card company and one of the biggest lines I hear is that if you tell the cc company that you will be closing out your account becuase you found a lower rate cc most times (depending on your history with the cc company) they will lower your rate.

I have done this more than a few times myself. :lol

Me too. I live by the almighty debit card.

We took out a Home Equity loan to pay off our cards. And we can write off the interest!

I did that a few years ago when I was in major debt. I lowered the interest from 20 percent to 9, but I had to close my cards. Totally worth it.

I combine the best of both worlds - charge everything, and pay it off at the end of the month.

Killer bonus points from Amex, and it's like a free loan if I wait until just after the billing cycle to buy the big stuff :tu

Only caucasians can get lower interest rates.
