I went with The Town but it's extremely close between that and The Departed. The scene where Pete Postlethwaite casually tells Ben Affleck that his mom was a drug addict who killed herself as he's cutting flowers is the tie breaker.

-The Verdict- '82.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-2jqTXKQyU

Many memorable parts in this film, but one is especially fine...Newman is in the bar, he's alcoholic and tries to pick up his shot glass of whiskey. It's morning. He has the DT's so bad he can't hold the glass. Sets it back on the bar, looks about to make sure he's not being watched, leans over and sips directly from it. This stills his shaking hand enough to allow him to pick it back up and drain it. His introspection at this precise moment is the killer.

Unbelievable.

Another great moment:::he's in the same bar, different day, it's mid morning, he should be in his office, working. Instead he's playing pinball, a grown man of the bench, an officer of the court in a bar playing pinball. He drags on a cig, sets it on the side of the machine, slides another ball into the launching slot and pulls the plunger, activating the ball. It drains. It is here that he has another self examination moment in the shadows of this bar. Sets the cig back on the edge, loads another ball, the scene ends.

-The Verdict- is a flawless motion picture event.

Indeed, very special, Lee. And you know who drives it to such heights? Richard Jordan. GD, he is terrific here as he always was wherever he worked.

And Boyle too. Mitchum doesn't grudge sharing this film with these men and the end result is confirmed, damn near what, a half-century on?

Steven Keats too parlaying this with -Death Wish- in the circa.

Shutter Island?

The Workaholics version of Shutter Island was better than the movie, tbh. The book is excellent though.

Absolutely. It's like the original -Dawn of the Dead- you're bug-eyed and done for the day.

The first cogent post you've made all fucking day, and on a Friday no less, peeg.

Departed for me, too many great actors all on their A+ game. My favorite scene was when Costello tells Costigan his family would murder him for just talking to Leo's character

"too many" in a different sense though. No grace twixt them, wrecky. Each attempting to steal scenes from the others, perhaps intimated by the perch afford to (DiCaprio) in that circa. Like a who's who of current film in a 3-alarm fire drill.

Either Mark Wahlberg, or Damon should not have been contracted in there.

Speak English motherfucker. You’re like a Monte Cristo sandwich. Enjoyable once in a while but not something to eat two days in a row. Much less ten times a day.

I like it because it goes further than "tough guy kill you for a nickle" stuff.
Its heavily tragic. As weird as Sean Penn is, he is fantastic. And the oaf that takes the fall does a great job as well.
Its totally disheartening. Families really get wrecked in this one and you feel it.

Precisely.

And dead on about Penn. You ever see the "Assassination of Richard Nixon" with him, peeg? Just a fantastic motion picture. Incredible job by him and Jack Thompson as his boss...this SOB pushes a lot of buttons that drive this film. Naomi Watts plays the estranged wife and no nonsense, she plays it straight up and down.

Great story.
