Trinity, which is 9-0 this season, will open the D-3 playoffs at home this weekend against Mary Hardin Baylor, which was the D-3 runner-up in 2004 and which beat Trinity in the opening round of last year's playoffs.

Trinity is the #1 seed in its bracket, but faces a monster opponent in UMHB because of travel restrictions placed on the bracketing of Division 3 teams. UMHB is the lower-seeded team, but is the presumptive favorite to win this Saturday.

For what it's worth, the winner of the Trinity/UMHB game should win what is the South Region and should advance to face Linfield (from tlong's neck of the woods) in the national semifinals.

It's Trinity's 9th consecutive playoff appearance, following their 13th consecutive conference title -- pretty good, considering that the Tigers never won their conference or reached the playoffs until 1994 and haven't missed the playoffs since 1997.
