Should a running back with 4 games of less than 100 yards rushing and 2 games with less than 100 yards TOTAL offense be considered for the Heisman ?

Considered I suppose, but many a RB has lost heisman hopes with a single game of less than 100 yards.

In this case, yes. The only thing that has kept him from more performances like the one we saw against Fresno St, is the fact that he loses a ton of carries to Lendale White.(sp?) Otherwise we'd be seeing Marshall Fualk type college numbers every week.

But this forum is full of USC haters and Longhorn homers, so we all know what the results are going to look like.

In this case yes. He is more than just a RB. He is a legit threat as a WR, KR and RB. The kid is special. I would love VY to get the Heisman and I think he is deserving but if I had a vote, I would vote for Reggie Bush.

But this forum is full of USC haters and Longhorn homers, so we all know what the results are going to look like.

I'd agree with that. There's a certain myopia around here about how good the Longhorns are and how overrated the Trojans are. All I know is that the same USC offense torched an Oklahoma defense that was good enough to shut down the vaunted Longhorns, who had a better running game last year than this year. I'm not saying that there's any direct correlation, but I do think that USC's accomplishments this year are unfairly downplayed, given that they've played a much more difficult schedule that Texas.

We'll see how it plays out, but Bush should not be discounted based on Longhorn fan parsing his numbers to argue that he's not as good as Vince Young.

While I do agree there is a lot burnt orange myopia here...there is also myopia of the maroon variety as well as the red (Tech,OU and NU shades) as well as Ohio St, and ND. To be fair...there are as many anti-Texas haters as there are Texas homers here. Personally, I am a fan of UT and I think VY has done enough to earn the Heisman and that Texas can beat USC. By saying that...I am not saying that Reggie Bush has not earned the Heisman nor that USC has no shot. I just do not believe that its an open and shut case either way. I have no problem with SC fan coming here and propping their team....but I haven't seen it yet. I have seen Anti-Horn fan come in here and spew hate for the lone and sole reason that it is Texas. I don't want to see an Aggie Fan who is bent about their season nor someone who just hates the State of Texas and all about it. I want to see USC fan. Not necessarily has to be an alum but someone who has followed the Trojans for a long time.

and there are more objective Longhorn fans then you give credit for. I made that pretty clear with my post.

I didn't call it a pervasive problem, mikey. I'm aware that there is some objectivity among some of the Orangebloods.

But it's also pretty hard to deny that there are a good number of Longhorn supporters who refuse to believe that there is any way that USC might be the better team or even competitive with Texas this year. And it's pretty hard to deny that the individuals in that group have done their level best to discredit everything and anything that SC has done this year. Wouldn't you agree with me on that?

i guess i am just not vocal enough. it doesn't help that my work blocks the site so i don't have much time (except my hour when i go home during lunch).

as an sc fan (2004 grad... so for 6 seasons now... prior to college i didn't have a team, but just watched games), of course, i will say that reggie is an amazing player who comes up huge when we need him most. the other games are so-so, but appear alot more average because not only are they compared to his other games but also to the play of his teammates.

but i wouldn't care if he didn't win the heisman. it can only go to one person. there is not a year when there is only one outstanding player. this year there are a few players with strong cases. vince has had a great year. if he wins, he is deserving of it. the heisman is great, but it doesn't diminish the outstanding play of the other candidates who didn't win it.

I am not a longhorns fan (other than that i root for teams from the state of texas)

i just realize that UT is going to Beat the Stuffing out of USC

You should also realize that VY isn't going to win the Heisman. Not that he isn't deserving of it, but he won't pass up Bush this year.

I don't think VY will pass Bush either, but he has two shots to do so in nationally televised contests.

Heisman balloters have until December 6th to return their picks. Texas still plays two more times with A&M on Friday and the championship game on the 3rd before then.

i think if vince is going to pass reggie, he will have to do so on friday. sc plays ucla on the 3rd in a nationally televised game. last year reggie's biggest game was against ucla. i don't see that being much different. given ucla's rush defense, his stats could be similar to this past week.

VY would have to have a Bush against FSU type game and Reggie would have to sit the UCLA game, IMO for Vince to win :). We all know that will not happen. Before the Fresno game, I thought Young had a shot because votes could be pulled away from Bush by Leinart. I don't see that happening now. IMO, I thought Bush should have won it last year too.

IMO, I thought Bush should have won it last year too.

well, he was voted most valuable player by the team last year.

but leinart sure had a hell of an orange bowl. not to mention that his record as a starter now stands at 36-1. some of that is due to the other offensive talent we have, but he has done a great job of leading the team. in the game after his one loss at cal, he was injured against asu but lead the team to a comeback win. his leadership skills are even better this year. his stats are even better this year than last... but when you play with someone like reggie, passing for 300 yards a game doesn't seem like that big of a deal.

Bush's game of over 500 yds total cancels VYs game of over 500 total. Overall, Young should get the Heisman. After all, Nordgren was not exactly the Lindell White to come in and give VY a breather...and VY runs the "O". Just my thoughts.

Heisman is a glorified popularity contest. National media types have been riding Reggie Bush's jock for quite some time now.

So, wait. Because the football team from the school I actually went to sucks this year, my opinion doesn't count? Whereas people who just randomly prop Texas (even though they went to some community college in SA) have perfectly valid opinions? Of course they're SO much more objective than I am. How many people here actually went to Texas?

Maybe I hate the Horns, but I can still have an opinion about them. I also doubt you're going to see a lot of real, diehard Trojan fans in here. Most people who didn't actually go to SC hopped off the bandwagon in the '90s when USC was terrible. I know KewlKat's an SC grad, but you're going to have a pretty crummy debate if you're only letting one other person talk.

P.S. I think it's pretty cut and dry that Bush gets it at this point. Apparently, some people (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/heisman/index) agree with me.

Aggie...my point was that I wanted to see SC fan represent. All we get here is Aggie vs.Horn hate(with a little OU and NU fun mixed in) and I wanted to see something different. Objectivity was never a goal. It can't be on this board! :lol Personally I think its pretty weak to hear "The Aggies/Longhorns will lose because I hate them." (Not you personally,in general) It happens on both sides. I don't like it personally but if that is someone's reason...they are entitled to it. And never once did I say you couldn't have an opinion. No one's opinion is any more or less valid than anyone else's, to borrow your own words from previous posts, they are just opinions. I wanted to see some fresh ones. Also not once did I say you had to go to a school to be "allowed" an opinion about them. Your opinion counts just as much as anyone elses, I just wanted to see some different takes. A lot of what we get here is anti-(fill in school here) takes. I wanted something different. Kat brought it. No harm done.

BTW, I noticed you chose to ignore this, but I too agreed that Bush would win the Heisman.

i don't think that the diehard trojan fans jumped off the bandwagon in the 90s. have you heard of the thundering herd? the seats by the tunnel are full of the craziest sc fans. my friends and i are by far the youngest in that section. but i think why you might not see those diehard trojan fans in here is because those fans from the 80s and 90s are probably from california which means they could care less about the spurs. the same goes for the alumni from that time period. usc is much different now. there are alot of out-of-staters... so the few die-hard fans that do come here (myself and one other) haven't been around sc as long.

What's the point of me replying to something to tell you I agree with you or to acknowledge that you agree with me? I can read, I saw what you said, I just don't see the point in acknowledging every point I agree with you on.

And you did say that you wanted a "real" SC fan's viewpoint instead of hearing Aggies pop off. You're not going to find many of those here. For what it's worth, I think I'm fairly objective on this game. I hate SC almost as bad as I hate Texas. I know I've said it before, but some people here tend to confuse thinking a team is good with rooting for them.

I got a better question. How many people have actually had (Insert Any school here) as their #1 team since they were in elementary school & don't cheer for that team just because Mommy & Daddy made them go there? :lol

Anybody can say they are a fan of (insert any school here) but were you cheering & crying over that team since you were 7yo?

That's what I thought.

I've been an A&M fan (and a Notre Dame fan, coincidentally) since I was a kid. I have no way of proving that to you, but you can be a man and take my word for it. I don't know that I was crying when the Ags lost (which actually didn't happen much in the '90s), but I definitely grew up an Ag. I went to school where I wanted, I payed for it and my parents had no impact on the decision. My dad didn't even go to college, why would he make me go to A&M?

I also don't see how any of that is anywhere near as relevant as where you actually went to school, but whatever floats your boat.

The BOLD portion leads one to assume that there are no liars or people who tell untruths. NOT to say that you're one but if anyone takes everything that they're told at face value they prob not all there mentally.

I'm neither attacking you, nor upset, so I don't really follow. I agree, there aren't going to be as many SC fans here because it's a board based on something in Texas. But there are plenty of fake SC fans (even in Texas). It's just that most of those are bandwagon fans, which is part of why you're not going to see many "true" USC fans who have followed the team through the years it sucked.

It goes without saying that the overall number of SC fans is going to be reduced because Spurs fans generally aren't also Trojans. That number is further limited when you eliminate bandwagon fans though.

first off, if you know any sc fans (bandwagon or not) in texas let me know because i sure haven't met any...

but just because there are alot of bandwagon fans doesn't mean that there aren't alot of real fans out there. maybe there's just a decent number of both, even if you haven't come in contact with them. if you went to california you would probably see more real fans than bandwagon fans, whereas the fans far away (without any connection) are probably going to be bandwagon fans 7 times out of 10. there isn't even an alumni club in san antonio (back to what i explained about the changing dynamic of usc). i think in 10 years there could be a club here.

now, if you're talking about the girl who writes for espn... she is annoying as shit... the school newspaper even makes fun of her.
