So it's Pop vs. Patty Thursday in Tokyo, the first post-Spurs confrontation -- from now on they're frenemies.

You get the impression that the Spurs are moving on from the vets. Both Rudy and Patty absolutely loved San Antonio and loved played for the Spurs.

The FO is definitely executing a plan. It's hard to imagine that cutting ties with DeRozan wouldn't also be a part of that plan.

Will miss Patty, man. Dude was an awesome teammate. Will always remember his introductions to each team member in the 2014 victory celebrations, his several daggers in key moments, his bond with Grandpa Juice!, and how he went from a goofy towel-waver to an Indigenous Australian Icon who excelled both and off the court. The Nets have got a winner in their bench. He will have it easy with Harden/ Durant/ Irving opening up easy three point opportunities.

And their tax went up by 30 million with Mills signing.

So the Spurs will make $1 to $2 million from him going to the Nets. I think we see five teams in the tax this year - Lakers, Nets, Warriors, Bucks, and then either Celtics or Sixers depending on what else they do.

There's way too many posts to quote, dead wrong, about the Spurs bringing the vets back at any cost, another $50Millz contract, re-signing DePression, all that jazz.... Feels so fucking good to get vindication like this, and see the team offload their over-the-hill vets and turn a new page.

I personally knew we weren't ever re-signing DeRozan & Co after the play-in game, but I'd be lying if I said I never doubted, either.... Being a Spurs fan can be a test of faith sometimes, it's nice to see it get rewarded like this :lol

As you know, the worst two defenders on the team last year were Walker and DeRozan.
Now its Forbes and Walker.

Harry Callahan
08-07-2021, 06:25 PM
Walker has too much size and mobility to be as poor a defender as he is. Forbes is what he is. Just an end of the bench guy and I hope he is treated like that next year.

If Walker wants a long NBA career, he better figure it out NOW.

Pretty much.

I bet he shows up in the best shape of his life in Brooklyn

Never forget that he signed 4/50 then showed up fat and bloated and directly made clear to the media that he didn't have to perform well at all on the 4/50 because it was back pay owed to him on prior deals

But yes, Mills over Forbes. Not just because Mills at least flops around on defense and is good for drawing comical charges, but you never have to worry about Pop actually starting Mills for long if everyone's healthy. With Forbes, it's almost a guarantee that he'll get chances to start.

Patty Mills on Brooklyn: "I'm a culture guy, that's who I am. It's what makes me tick. To dive into the culture of Brooklyn... that was the next step. That's something I was really excited about."

Patty Mills says, “The conversation I had with Kevin (Durant) was so pure and so genuine — It was exciting for me to know that there was an opportunity for me to be who I am, like I am for the National team.”

I don't think anyone has dissed Patty for this smart career move tbh (or very very few)

Coach Pop understands (now) where the Spurs are compared to other teams.

All key vets with expired contracts left. That is OK by me. I hate to see Mills go, because he was a fine player for many many years. The guy stays here for a decade, and conducts himself so very well through thick and thin.

I'll miss seeing #8 out there.

Brooklyn is a very good opportunity - he has a chance to put the Nets over the top. The Nets have a very good chance to be the second former ABA team to win a title (after the Spurs of course). Patty's course from a mid-season afterthought to a long term, meaningful NBA career has been fun to watch. The Nets will benefit from his contributions this coming year. Patty may be the type of guy who even comes back to SA after the playing career is over.
