Yep, even though I've been so harsh on him for years (at one point I really did believe he was the best of all-time, but the past 5 or 6 years I have really disagreed with a lot of what he's done/been doing. Sorry to digress), I wanted these guys to win for him. If someone else was coaching Team USA, I probably wouldn't have went for them at all since I'm not from the US, but this time around, despite the players on the team, I knew how much he's wanted to coach the Olympics, so I set my differences aside with these guys and went for them (I have even gained an appreciation in the process for some of these players I never had before due to rivalries in the past). Congrats to Pop on coaching/helping the USA Basketball Team to win the Gold.

But this Olympic Gold is the most deserving with all the adversities, with only 1 true 1st tier star in KD, the late minute “patch up” roster, very short period of time preparation, going against teams with most NBA players. I mean this victory was sweet and really earned. To coach the US Team to actually play TEAM basketball, instead of just throwing Superteam out there, and making that preparation in a VERY short time. He really got KD to buy in on getting coached, to get everybody else to follow (reminiscent of Timmy and the Spurs). KD was great, but hands down to Coach Pop to make it happen. Well deserved. That's what the Olympics are all about. It's easy to get siloed into the Spurs mindset and come to hate these guys who we go to battle with, but for one short tournament we get to root for all these different players and see them come together as a team.

i don't know if it's pride .. but for me an armchair analyst, it seems like it would be tough for a bunch of grade A Alphas to get thrown together and then have to learn, understand, and accept their roles to make the team better, when they are each used to being the number one alpha dog. Welp, guess I'm a KD fan now. Bailed out a team full of all-stars. Didn't flinch when Pop yelled at him. Took Keldon under his wing. And did all that a couple weeks after his NBA season ended, a season which was his first back from an achilles rupture. He had every excuse not to even go to the Olympics. Pretty impressive, tbh.

He's by far the best player to come out of Prince George's County, Maryland, so I've always had a love - hate feeling for him (being I'm from PG but a Spurs fan).

Still he proved why he's an all - time great (better than Kobe, IMHO) and led the team to a gold medal.

Props to Pop, Durant, KJ, Middleton , Holiday and everyone else on or involved with team USA!

To add to that, I know a lot of posters around here give Pop shit for his political outlook, but you could tell that the Trump presidency and other recent social events took a grind on him. COVID is just the latest in that trend, and is one that potentially could threaten to end his life as a senior citizen. You aren't that outspoken about things if they don't weigh on you personally.

If this is his swan song, what a way to go out. Military veteran wins gold medal and avenges the loss from 2004 (which was more on Larry Brown imo). I don't think he was lying when he said how special it was to him...he's wanted that gold for a long time.

Pop needs to come back for one more year, get that all-time coaching record for good measure, and I would say there is nothing left for him to accomplish.
