I'm assuming he gets waved if he's not traded. The team just can't afford to hold onto him after the Collins signing. But still. In case he's not, here's a player thread. If he makes the team and plays okay, then there is a spot for him as the backup three. He'd have to beat out Walker (if Lonnie is not traded) but if the team can find a way to keep AFA on the roster and get him back to looking okay, they could have a decent trade piece at the deadline.

He is absolute trash. If spurs turn him into a 2nd id be impressed

If Aminu can get healthy and in shape, it wouldn't take a whole lot for him to turn himself into an asset that the Spurs can flip for a second round pick. Or, alternatively, be good enough that a receiving team wouldn't consider him a negative asset in a trade.

IIRC, Aminu was the Spurs' original target before they signed DeMarre Carroll. Both players ended up falling off a cliff but at least Aminu is an age (30) where he could possibly turn it around in time to earn one more NBA contract.

Do you guys feel if we dont make a big free agent signing, the spurs would hold onto him and young til the trade deadline and trade to the highest bidding playoff team?

I don't see Aminu as a 3 anymore. I am pretty sure he last played as a backup 4 to Gordon in Orlando. Also, for him to return to his Portland days in 2018/2019, where he shot 34% from 3, 44% on the floor, avg 9 points 7 rebounds would he highly unlikely. The man has shot less that 25% from 3 since then. He avg 5pnts 5 rebounds for Orlando in 20 minutes of action, shooting a woeful 34% on the floor.

Samanic for example avg 9 minutes per game, avg 3.7 and 2.1. But shot 44% from the floor. For Aminu to beat out Samanic on the rotation at this point in their careers would be a shocking turn of events.

He is walking tax relief no matter his ability for us or anyone with bad contracts on their books. If he does show value as a player on court that’s extra.... it’s just strategy men. Over thinking this...

Fodder for a Wiggins trade at the deadline.

Be honest, how long were you sitting on this thread title?

Three years ago when he was the rumored target...

No, I actually struggled to come up with a title, so my brain reverted to like elementary school to save me.

I’d be shocked if he plays a single minute as a spur

2016 is calling and would like to congratulate Brian Wright on a fantastic signing.

I found it funny that the spurs wanted to sign Aminu over Carroll, then signed Carroll who fell off a cliff...and Aminu fell off a cliff the same year...and now here they are with him on the team...

This is the type of stuff that worries me...that someone in the front office looked at two guys who they thought could be contributors without seeing that both guys were on the verge of being washed up...

He might not be an asset but his contract is. Cap space is worth a lot in this league.
