no not OUR TP -- I was talking about Terry Porter...

I'm sorry but his color commentary was not all that. I tried to give him a chance this being his first time and all but you have to admit it was pretty lame. You could tell Bill Land was try desparately to make him sound good but.... eeeehooooleh... was that bad.

What did you all think about Terry Porter as a commentator?

I sure hope he finds a coaching job somewhere soon... I think he's a good coach and got a raw deal with the bucks... but as a commentator -- I don't think so. :spin

I haven't got a chance to listen to him, but I doubt he sucks more than Lance Blanks.

TP has never been particularly well spoken, but I thought he was a good coach that got hosed by Milwaukee.

Terry Porter did okay. I definitely missed hearing Sean Elliot though.
Steve Kerr is my second favorite analyst.

Lets just say,

Lance Blanks sounds like Steve Kerry compared to Terry Porter.

Terry Porter is HORRIBLE.

I don't think he has had any training at this. He needs to work on clarity and distinguishability of words. His insights were okay. He sensed when the Spurs were getting too lax early in the process. His recognition of the Spurs "matchup zone" was a little late in coming (three or four trips after they went to it). He's not a PBP announcer, he was in the role of analyst.

Hearing TP announce brought to mind what some Forum posters called Tony Parker his rookie season. TPII or TP2. :)

I did not here terry porter but Sean marks did a game before and did a great job. He should have a job when he retires.

I liked Terry Porter. No one meets the Sean Elliott standard - he's probably one of the best there ever will be, but I thought Porter was a refreshing change of pace. His dialogue was mostly textbook and I thought he was trying hard to interject his description when needed. He wasn't very smooth, but it was a nice change of pace for me. He also had great insight as he has been a part of both organizations recently.

First game. His weak, uncertain voice was not overcome by middlling commentary. From his coaching demeanor on the sideliness, I was surprised how less assured he was as commentator. Opening night jitters.

If we have to listen to him for 7 more games, I hope he reviews his tape and finds his game and confidence.

Even Steve Kerr talked about what a horrible job he did his first game. I think Terry had a lot of good analysis, he just doesn't have a natural broadcasting voice.

Old TP needs to go back to broadcasting school

I thought he pretty much sucked too, but he's so much better than Lance Blanks was that it's scary. Lance Blanks being announced as the color commentator was the fastest way to make me reach for the "mute" button.

Oh, Gee!!

Not every ex-athlete should become a broadcaster. Sorry ESPN.

He's not good (but like many said, he's completely untrained). He has a bad voice for broadcasting, but I didn't find him annoying at all. Lance Blank's annoyed me the whole time.

One funny part though was when he made Nazr Mohammed's full name all one word. Nazhammed. :lol

Remember Bernie Bickerstaff? "He's fillin' (feeling) it! He's fillin' it!"

As a broadcaster, he was a good coach.

I actually thought he was ok. Ya, he jumbled some phrases...but, I thought his overall take on the game and action was pretty good. I really think he has potential if he gets more comfortable at it. I was pleasantly surprised overall...tho, a coupla times, that wide grin scared the hell outta me.

But then again...some of Seans grins :D

I'd give TP1 a chance. That was his first game ever behind the mic.

I remember the guy that was horrible at commentating was Tim Hardaway.
