Will this be the first (and hopefully only) season that the Spurs don’t have someone on the roster who has ever been an Allstar or will become one? If not, who do you think is a future Allstar or will we be trading for one?

Hard to say. DJ, White or Johnson could given the right circumstances.
Remains to be seen if Numb Nutts is going to give large minutes to Pet Bryn. That will again sabotage anyone's chances.

The important thing is that Pop gets or at least adds to his career regular season win total. -Dex

To be clear this poll is for a player becoming an Allstar, not for them to have Allstar seasons this year. THAT would be very very unlikely.

So what’s your answer?

Well in that case white if he can stay healthy, and djm could easily blow up. Spurs will have to stay competitive though

Counting players who had ever had an All-Star appearance is fair imo. I wouldn't include players who made an All-Star appearance later in their careers.

This really is the first season in Spurs history without a player that had ever been an All-Star. Just Gervin/Robertson/Cheeks (et al)/Robinson/Duncan/Parker/DeRozan cover all the seasons.

The best chance any Spur has to make the All-Star team is Murray imo. All-Star selections from bad teams are usually about counting stats and Murray has the potential to put up pretty big ones. I doubt he will be very efficient offensively though, outside of his very low turnover rate.

I know, that’s why I’m jokingly saying we have 7 players who will make an all-star team. I’m sure it will be much fewer, but which ones?

The only answer possible: time will tell. DJ might sneak into an ASG eight years from now as a member of the newly re-constituted Seattle Sonics. That would fit your “ever been an AS” loophole.

White has the closest chance among any Spur to become an All Star, IMO. The bubble version of White was an All Star and last season he was rounding into Bubble form before injuries derailed him. Expect him to bounce back this season if his toe issues are resolved.

It’s not a loophole, it’s a parameter. It also helps to see which player Spurs fans think will carry this team to success. So far the real answer has been no one based on the poll results. We’ll see how people keep voting and if there is a player that stands out in the future.

haha I see what you’re saying now. I thought you were saying no one even stood a chance.

I do wonder statistically what Primo’s and Vassell’s chances are since they were lottery picks.

well it would be awesome obviously if 1 of these guys somehow made the all star this year:

Derrick White - has best chance IMO if (HUGE IF) he can stay healthy.

Keldon Johnson - already has recognition from being on team USA, if his defense gets even better and increases his scoring could be the one to make it.

Dejounte Murray - his defense is already really good. We can expect at least 1 break away steal every game. If his scoring can increase he has a legit shot.

Lonnie Walker - we've seen him have a few breakout games when he's played in place of DeRozan. If he has the mindset to be a scorer, with consistency, he could potentially rise up.

But we would need to be in the playoff mix for any of these guys to make it by the time the voting begins.

Yeah, it's stupid, like when some cute news writer mentioned how Moses Malone was an MVP back when he played for us. Dude... that was eras ago.

Dejounte has the best chance right now since he is considered an ace defensively and his offense has improved steadily ever year... if the spurs are X amount of games over .500 at the all star break somebody on the team is going to be selected...my money would be on him...mostly because derrick white will certainly be injured by then and have missed 20 something games already or something...

Its just a list. Relax. Also as someone else stated:

“Gervin/Robertson/Cheeks (et al)/Robinson/Duncan/Parker/DeRozan cover all the seasons.”

How about answering the question? Who is your money on?

That's like saying 9x All-Star and Scoring Champion Dominique Wilkins should have carried that 96-97 team.

Evidently, the Spurs FO facilitated a ballot box stuffing campaign to get Alvin Robertson on the All Star team, which annoyed Riley who barely played him in those two All Star games. I think a Buck column mentioned that decades ago. Harder to stuff the ballots now, I think. Or at least for the average Spurs fan.

Not sure I agree. Even when playing well...White doesn't have that "All-Star appeal" and obviously the West is loaded with talent.

Curry, Luka, Westbrook, Lillard, Mitchell, Booker, Paul, Thompson, LeBron, Kawhi, George, Davis, Jokic, Zion....all of those names are basically going to pick themselves as long as they are healthy. I just don't see a lot of extra spots to go around, even if White or Murray or anybody else has a breakout season.

Maybe in the East, Derrick would have a shot...but I don't see him beating out the bigger names unless the Spurs force the voter's hand by being in the heart of the playoff race and I don't think anyone is expecting that for this season.

We stacked.

I forgot he averaged 18 PPG and 6 REB for the Spurs. I had it in my mind that he was mostly waving a towel at that point in his career.

IIRC last time spurs had an all star it was in 2019...
