WOW! What a game that was!!
So Clemson falls down to #4 now and Georgia goes up to #2!! Which means Georgia will actually get to lose to Bama twice instead of once this season! What a shakeup! This folks, is why they play the game!

followed by endless CNN trailers of an unvaxxed Trumptard gasping for air in a hospital bed, begging for the vaccine for the 'Schlomo variant' on his last breath, when Saint Don Lemon floats down from the heavens. He asks "why didn't you get the vaccine?", the victim pleads for repentance, but Saint Lemon shakes his head "it's too late" and he dies on the spot immediately after resulting in thunderous applause from various onlookers

Is that lol UTSA's biggest victory ever?
I think UTSA's biggest win was probably a few years ago against a sub-par Baylor team only because it was their first win against the Big XII and because it helped Marcus Davenport become a first round pick in the NFL draft.
I think the Big XII is better off with just 10 teams (adding BYU and Houston) after Texas and OU leave. BUT, if the Big XII feels it must go to 12 teams then I honestly think UTSA would add more than UCF. At the very minimum you get more natural rivalries with UTSA than UCF. UCF doesn't really have any natural rivalries with any of the Big XII schools and it's not even close to the other Big XII schools in terms of physical distance.

Lol It's all about tv markets at this point which utsa adds basically nothing.
And last I checked UCF has the largest student enrollment in the country at about a ridiculous 70k.
I like watching utsa games myself but c'mon now with the big 12 wish list :lol

UTSA now 5-0 after barely beating a bad UNLV team. Do they get an invite to MWC or AAC?
Two of the four teams the Big XII is adding are ranked in the top 10 (BYU #10 and Cincy #6) as of today.

UTSA now 5-0 after barely beating a bad UNLV team. Do they get an invite to MWC or AAC?All four MWC teams the AAC tried to poach refused so for now the MWC is in a much better spot if they want to expand into Texas. But MAYBE teams like Boise State refused because they figured a Big XII invite could be around the corner.
It's all kind of deckchairs on the Titanic for any team not getting a P5 spot. The lower tier teams like UTSA should reorganize into more regional conferences after the inevitable schism coming up. Eastern division of an expanded MWC would work or just group up all the leftovers of CUSA/Sun Belt/AAC after they are picked clean of their good markets.
ags are a dumpster fire right now. while i thought they were overrated to start the season and would struggle to replace mond and four offensive lineman, i didn't expect them to almost lose to a very bad Colorado team and then lose to both MSU and Arkansas. I had them losing to Bama, Ole' Miss and LSU. and while losing King to an injury didn't help and Calzada has been awful, there are lot of other issues; the defense is good but not very good, receivers are struggling to read coverages and pick up blitzes and the o-line is a hot mess. i also think the coaching staff has been badly outcoached in the last two games. not sure how this will impact recruiting but it wouldn't shock me if a&m fell off some short lists or if a few current pledges decommitted.

Although I am and always will be Jimbo supporter for that Championship trophy and other memorable seasons, we are in this current mess in part because of him. Struggled to recruit offensive line, didn't sign any Quarterbacks in the final couple classes and all out stopped recruiting after the Alabama game (1st game of 2017 season).

Yeah I think Dykes is the ideal hire right now. tbh though it's a crapshoot whether or not he'll want to leave what he has there for this dumpster fire.
IMO, if I were running things I'd just hire a PR team and take a strong look at Art Briles. I don't see either of those two sticking around for long, and while normally I'm not in favor of hiring stopgaps this department needs something to get excited about
Says something about how difficult it is to coach here when a guy like Kingsbury turned a rebuilding NFL franchise into the best team in the NFL, yet could never rise above mediocrity here

If your PR team takes a long look at Art Briles you need to fire your PR team.
Assuming college to pros or pro to college is equal either way is not smart.
College coaches work with teenagers. There is an art to that as well. Recruiting... horribly difficult.
At the end of this season there will always be coaches available.
Also, assuming Kingsbury is king is also premature. He has done a great job with the offense but it remains to be seen what the Cardinals do. I can see him end up as purely an O-Coordinator. The real key in all these coaching switches is to find a team and coach who performed very well but lost too many games for unreachable standards. Maybe A team that sustained an extraordinary number of injuries but still played well. No I dont know who that would be. But not Briles.
Im sure Blake would love to have Briles as much as a mound of fire ants eating his eyes out.

Kliff is an extraordinary offensive mind and quarterback talent evaluator. That's about it. He's too laid back to be a fast talking salesman to these high school kids to get them to come to Lubbock, especially on defense.
Blake
10-28-2021, 08:41 AM
I'd be okay with Briles if we were guaranteed a few ten win seasons.
But if he had losing seasons and/or had another scandal, that's it for Kirby so there's no way Tech hires him.
Mark Celibate
10-29-2021, 08:30 PM
if I'm Kirby I'm thinking the opposite....no more playing it safe "we want the right kind of person, with class, blah blah blah...." yeah screw that, this is Texas Tech not Alabama. At its best, this is always been a place of outcasts (Bob Knight, Mike Leach, etc)
I say just go full scorched earth and hire Art Briles for football, and give Dave Bliss or Rick Pitino a chance at a comeback in basketball. We need some real leadership baby! Atleast show the fanbase you care about winning by hiring coaches that'll do whatever it takes. At the very least, it'll get people talking about Texas Tech again. No press is bad press I say....while we're at it, what is Greg Hardy up to these days? Maybe take a flyer on him for D coordinator?

As long as he can recruit I’m good with the hire. I watched the first half of their game against OU and it was like watching an FCS team. Literally did not matter what play Tech called, OU was just faster/stronger at every position. I saw one play in particular that was a well called WR screen. No OU defender was in the picture at first yet they swarmed quick and he was tackled behind the LOS anyway. Not a lot coaching can do to overcome that tbh

Sunday night, McGuire and the Red Raiders picked up a verbal commitment from Isaiah Crawford, a 4-star defensive end/linebacker from nearby Post. Crawford was at one time a commit to Baylor but decommitted on the same day that McGuire was officially introduced as head coach, a move that made many Red Raider fans confident that this top prospect was going to stay close to home.
Rated by the 247Sports.com composite rankings as the No. 167 player in the class of 2023 and the No. 25 player in Texas, Crawford is easily one of the best prospects to come from West Texas in recent years.

If there had been other 1 loss power 5 teams that won their conf championship (like possibly Michigan if they beat Iowa), Georgia might have been out.
If ND had not played Cinn, and they both won all their games, Georgia might have been out.
Weird year. Pac 12, ACC, Big 12 offered no alternatives.

Of course Okie State chokes, opening the door for those faggots from Ohio St again
No way Ohio st gets in.
Ok ST. lost their best player so Baylor had a good chance and they took it well. Baylor did not have their starting QB. Those were two weak teams that got weaker by the time the conf championship was played.

At what point does Georgia lose so badly they are replaced in the CFP by another major 1 loss team?
And if the answer is none, then that illustrates why the Playoff ruined this sport
Or it illustrates disparity in college football and the need for more playoff teams

This.
Pretty difficult to penalize SEC GA for it's 1 loss to Bama when you compare who the other teams 1 loss was against.

Clearly the sport has lost the plot

Irish lost to Undefeated team and earlier in the season. Also smaller margin of loss.

Looks like it may work out perfectly if Michigan wins. 4 teams and straightforward imo.
Ala
Georgia
Michigan
Cincy
in no particular order. Except they will not pair Ala against Georgia in semifinal.
Notre Dame lost to Cincy.
So that popular independent is out.
I think the best team throughout the year will be determined as properly as possible given the above.

If the Conference Title Game doesn't matter then neither does the regular season. Making this sport 95% pointless. I grew up watching "Every game matters". Where fans cried after losses in September.
I vividly remember those historic upsets. I can't even tell you who was in the CFB playoff within the past couple years. They lost the plot.

This is a problem. Early season losses even less meaningful.
If you want to find out who the best team is after the END of the regular season have 4 regular season games that maybe only count in seeding and have one giant tournament. You could easily accommodate 128 team tournament. even 256
Maybe just go way back to a few major bowls and have multiple teams claim National Championships ... the other extreme that probably was kinds fun I guess. I have read some press articles about Penn St. getting livid when Texas won partially due to Nixon. That must have been weird.
I think Texas ATM has claimed some National Championships around the time Magellan was sailing.

This is retarded. No other sport has "conference title games" but the regular season matters in all other sports, including pro football. You're just rambling.

Have no idea what Wake could do this late. Maybe see if they could get East Tennessee back together for some one-time FCS/FBS COVID bowl weirdness?

yeah, COVID hit the runners hard and at the worst time. couple that with the 1st half suspension of wisdom and the loss of sincere to the draft and the runners were at a huge disadvantage to start. WF would have to see if another team is left at the altar right before their bowl game and then see if they could work out a game on an agreed upon site. but basically, this probably ends WF's season as well.

That sucks but it's also fascinating. Would they have to be that level conference eligible or just meet the minimum win criteria? And which bowl would get the two teams?

And which bowl would get the two teams? They created the Frisco Classic so all teams with an even or winning record could have a bowl game this year, otherwise two would've been left out. I can't think of any FBS program that could fill in at this point, which is why I floated the idea of an FCS semifinalist; they had a contingency to play in January and might be able to ramp back up to play -- as ridiculous as it sounds.
There's a possibility another team withdraws in a day or two. Then some other bowl would lose out.

Wait, so a team that already lost a bowl game has a chance at playing again in a better one?
Sure why not

COVID was the excuse to save face, they were already at a massive shortage of players before factoring in Covid.
They were probably going to have been drilled due to players either transferring out or opting out of the bowl game (which is really a bigger problem all in all in the game).
But now Aggies can kinda save face from being flat out embarassed in that game by using Covid as a reason to not even show up.
