View Full Version : Computers that don’t come preloaded with McAfee Garbage

I’m in the market for a new computer but the baseline requirement is that it won’t have any affiliation with McAfee. I don’t want any McAfee pop ups, attempts to auto install, etc. it’s garbage software and I hope John McAfee’s death was as miserable as possible and involved being raped with a broomstick by prison guards.

which brands should I investigate that won’t sell me pre loaded garbage?

MacBook

Only Apple product I've ever owned.

Let me know what you get, Will. I too am in the market (desk top), but want to be extra careful.

I’m with Frostking on this one. Used to be s windows guy but slowly migrated over Apple and got a Mac after Windows 10 came about. I really don’t like that OS. I’ve never had a problem with my Mac since day 1.

Your best shot is to buy directly from the makers. I know Dell sells them streamlined according to what you want. At least they did.

You could just do a fresh install of Windows to get rid of all that crap using the key that should be printed on a sticker somewhere on your PC / laptop. You can download Windows direct from Microsoft for free, put it on a microSD or flash drive, boot from USB, and then use that key on the sticker to do a fresh install of Windows on your computer. First thing I would do if I bought a pre-built PC or a laptop.

Yeah you want to be careful. Dell got caught by a big PC gaming channel (Linus Tech Tips) forcing service plans and extended warranties on a buyer who kept saying no every time the salesperson on the phone kept pushing them.

Handled right those extended warranties are like gold.

Meh, they push those things hard because they're pure profit to the company. Unless you want a high end gaming PC or workstation anything in there that's going to fail in 3 years will probably fail early on in the first few months when you're covered by the regular warranty.

True, I was thinking more comprehensively on items you purchase.

Overpriced is more accurate, all Apple products are.

Oh. Got that right. :lol

their customer service and policy is iffy as well. Good luck if you lose your password or get locked out of your own phone. They won’t do much outside of do you remember your password?

I am switching to an iPhone, never owned an apple product but the Android/Windows thing has me fed up with shit. Can't wait for Apple to slow my phone's performance for my own good.

McAfee software is like herpes, there’s no way to get rid of it :lol, I’d rather just not have it on my computer at all.

And no I can’t buy an apple. My work revolves around Microsoft office suite (namely word, excel and PowerPoint), and the office products for Mac software blows.

They pay a lot of money to companies like Dell to get their bullshit on your computer. And lots of other shit like that too, which is why I recommend doing a fresh install of Windows after wiping the drive. So much fucking bloatware on a system out of the box when you get it from someone like Dell, Asus, HP, etc.

All that shit is worse than actually getting a virus.

:lol exactly. Norton, McAfee, etc. all fuck with your computer a lot more than any potential virus.

John McAfee was such a ghoul he was probably behind creating viruses just to create an artificial demand for his dogshit software.

The fact that there is no simple way to uninstall them like you'd be able to any other piece of software tells you everything you need to know.

Mine didn't have McAfee.

Getting a virus is worse if your computer is anything other than a gaming machine.

Yes.

Between that and the fact I've read he's been a heavy smoker, drinker and -at times- drug user. Amazing he ended up surviving to almost 80 and not dying of natural causes. :lol

Side note: He's also been rumored to have impregnated 15-20 other females besides his wife, some of them underage.

It's not too hard. Just use the product key for Windows that will be on a sticker on the back of your laptop or wherever they stuck it on your desktop, or maybe they just gave you like a postcard with the Windows key on it with whatever new computer you buy.

Do they still do that? It all comes intergraded these days.

Since I’m not a PC gamer, an all in one computer is just the right fit for me so that's what I've been using for the last 7 or so years now. Last computer with a tower I had was in the mid to late 2000s. I stripped that shit up and kept the hard drive few years back. Still have it and dont know what to do with it. Has some vintage porn on it which is probably why. :lol

But yeah I reccomend the same. Just download win10 on Microsoft, put it on a stick and get a key relatively cheap off a third party seller and you're good.

The whole point is formatting and reinstalling Windows from scratch to get rid of all the garbage bloatware like McAfee and Norton that comes on systems out of the box. He doesn't need to buy a Windows key, he can use the one that comes on his laptop / desktop. You'll get a postcard with the Windows key and/or usually a sticker on the computer itself that gives the Windows key. Something like this is likely to be affixed to his computer:

It's easy to delete and disable the mcafee crap anyway with the control panel -> programs -> uninstall

Also, disable the automatic updates crap

fwiw, I deleted my McAfee "total defense" crap and I'm using Windows Defender, the generic antivirus tool that comes with MS. It seems to work just as well.

Ended up buying an expensive ass Lenovo with a shit tone of RAM and no anti-virus software. I’m pumped for when it arrives.
