No wonder he’s with the young guys at the Hemisphere Arena last week. I love it. The young guys learning from a legendary Spur. I hope it’s a precursor to a coaching career. I would love for him to take the helm someday as the HC, TP as the GM and Timmy, we’ll Timmy can do whatever he wants.

Welcome back!
My man(u)!
This is great news. I thought Manu had previously expressed he had no interest in coaching or development, and I figured he would spend the rest of his days with his family in Argentina and traveling the world (and no one could have blamed him).
Even if it's a short term gig, having guys like Timmy and Manu around in ANY capacity is a win for the organization.

Nice but likely irrelevant. A lot of players sign on in this capacity and end up just collecting checks. Hope Manu is different and can impart some wisdom on the young guys. If this is a precursor to Ginobili taking a more prominent role with the organization in the future, that would be cool too. I wonder how different things would be if the Spurs had drafted Duarte and Bolomaro. Both of those guys could've used a Manu-like mentor.

But yeah, Manu would be a great influence to the young group.
Those pictures also great camaraderie already building, specially with newly acquired Zollins, McBucket and SOB. Even Luka doesn’t seem too lost with this group compared with being around vets.

Ex, no offense, but you sound like a fucking idiot right now.
1 -- Not bitter. Indifferent.
2 -- Skeptical? No. Realistic, yes.
3 -- That's actually optimistic. If I wrote "I hope Vassell improves next year", would you call that skeptical too?
4 -- "That would be cool" is neutral in your mind. Do you even have nostrils at this point? It takes some hard-core sniffery to think saying something would be cool is neutral
5/6 -- I never said I wanted Durarte. Like ever. I CERTAINLY never said I wanted Bolomaro. Your condemnation is so damned lazy that you couldn't think for two seconds why I would think those two players in particular could benefit from Manu beyond how I'd feel about them as prospects.
Seriously, man, this anti-hero snifflord shtick you're on is really sad. You're on a Spurs site -- there's no reason why everyone has to be aggressively pro Spurs all the time. I'm a Spurs fan. The thousands of posts and countless hours I've spent on here should be evidence for that. You constantly trying to gate-keep the fandom behind your narrow idea of what it means to support the team does nothing but create pointless side arguments. You already know I'm not a troll or a doomer unless you're so hardwired into your bit that you react to posts without context or history. If that latter things is the case, then you should stop trying to make sweeping judgments about people's personalities or motivations, because you'll end up embarrassing yourself with wild misses like this.

He is not coming to play...just saying. I've been following his twitter account and reading some interviews in Argentinian publications and he seems a little tentative on life after Spurs. His public business speaking angle has not taken off (let's face it, as a speaker he is every bit a...fantastic basketball player).
As much as I rate him enormously as a player, I can't see in him the coach and the mentor.
Feels like a foil role to prolong Popovich's career in trying to hide the five time champion 's coach obvious past "used by date" antics with the playing group.
Different story would be bringing Ginobili to fit in with a futuristic agenda and a clear forward plan. Spurs don't seem to be about that any longer.

I wish he was actually going to try and play ;). I still think he had plenty of game left when he retired.
What do you mean by tentative on life after the Spurs? He doesn't know what he wants to do? What has he been trying to do since retiring?
As for a coach or mentor, do you not see him as one for the same reason as Tim? I think Tim said it was too frustrating not being able to go out there on the court and do it himself. Do you think Manu would be frustrated seeing the player's limitations and not being able to do anything about it, especially when he knows he was much better than most of the players out there.

Tentative post playing.
I figured that he wanted to do the public speaking rounds after retirement. His guernsey retirement speech was a good example of it and some leadership business conferences he was a guest in BA. But he came across a little dull / boring. Clearly he has heaps of experience, however playing basketball and "convincing on the mike / storytelling" are two very different skill sets. He seems lacking in the latter department. After that he did not kick on with any project that I know of. Anyhow, I was reading his good mate Luis Scola just retired and became the CEO of an Italian Basketball Club (Varese). I feel he probably got into MANU's ear to get some exposure to the managerial side of things in basketball clubs.
Coaching
Probably, there are many examples of sporting GREATS that end up being poor coaches. For some reason MANU does not strike me as the coach type fella. Just not real interest, probably the same as TD. I maybe totally wrong of course (I bloody hope so).

of these young guys it will resonate, with some it won’t. What I hope we as Spurs fans get out of this is him telling players what it’s like to be in Pop’s dog house and how you need to earn your right to throw an errant pass, play the passing lanes when you should be on your man or take a heat check sometimes.

I never understood the point of dropping the cost of a car on a watch or pair of sunglasses, but I'm also not one to tell anybody how to spend their own money. I guess I just don't really care for that being a way to show status, but it's been part of NBA culture (and celebrity/hip-hop culture in general) forever.
It's also different if you are a multimillionaire, and not some guy struggling to pay your mortgage but also trying to roll around in brand new Jordans and Gucci sunglasses.
DJ has been good to the community so I'm not gonna dog him there...but yeah, those chains and watches probably could've bought school supplies for every school in San Antonio.

Wait, what? I'm pretty sure that's not the case tbh. I know a couple IRL people that have both Argie & a slavic country's citizenship (Slovenia in one case, don't remember which in the second one), and a third one with a USA & Argentina dual citizenship. As far as I know, it's the other way around with Argie citizenship: by Constitution, it's irrevocable and inalienable, so it's usually the second nationality country's restrictions that hinder you, not the first's.
Having said that, I don't know the requirements for getting US citizenship and whether they require direct bloodline in order to get; pretty sure Manu doesn't have relatives there so it'd have to be some other way. Him consistently renewing his Green Card makes the most sense, in any case.

Idk, I just googled it and got this...
Argentina has dual citizenship agreements with Italy and Spain. Individuals from other countries are not entitled to dual citizenship and must therefore renounce their original citizenship in order to become naturalized. Children born abroad to Argentine parents do not automatically acquire Argentine citizenship.
Manu likely came here on a H1 Visa initially, but that can turn into a green card & even a citizenships(eventually) if you employer is willing to file the necessary forms. I've got multiple cousins who here that way and went on to become citizens.

Sounds like Argentina doesn't give citizenship to people from most other countries, but that doesn't suggest that Argentinians have to renounce their citizenship to get it from another country. So if Manu did want US citizenship, he could likely get it, but like Duncan couldn't get Argentine citizenship without renouncing his American status.

This could be it, tbh.

Idk, I just googled it and got this...
Manu likely came here on a H1 Visa initially, but that can turn into a green card & even a citizenships(eventually) if you employer is willing to file the necessary forms. I've got multiple cousins who here that way and went on to become citizens.
You can also get citizenship easily if you are rich. They are special programs that the US has that allows rich people to get citizenship quicker than regular people from other countries. I'm sure Manu can take that special pathway since he is rich.

Yep, that's exactly how it is. Thanks for wording it up, Chino.
