This is why we can't have anything nice. I come here hyped about the youth and we have this. Yes, it's about YOU. Not the team.
Some of you live here and define yourself as a person based on how others perceive you here. To that I say what a pathetic existence. Now back to the game...

There are some ppl who actually troll for self like you say, but most troll for fun. just an ignorant post.

That's a great point. He has the perfect skill set to pair with Murray. For example that's what you'd want from White ideally to create and score the thing is he is great at creating space for the team and not always for himself... He is just very team oriented and that's ok. Primo can theoretically create a shot for himself and others. And he can play off the ball or with it...

But 100 percent the team is so much more exciting to watch...

I like the Bryant comp. Both were drafted around 12 or 13. Though as a rookie Primo is a year older than Bryant, who was 17 on draft day and 18 throughout his rookie '96-'97 year.

Bryant had given interviews stating it was an injury to Eddie Jones in the asterisk season (year 3) that propelled him to a FT starter, and his story may have been different if not for that.
I'm willing to wait until next year to crown Primo given that previous timeline. Popovich is Dell Harris circa 1998 so very much don't get your hopes up for this season.

Kobe was super athletic when he was young. I don't think that's a good comparison. Primo has great ball handling skills but does not have the athletic skills Kobe had.

I really don't see the the Kobe comparison. As daslicer pointed out Kobe was even as a rookie extremely athletic. As far as Kobe not starting till 99 due to an Eddie Jones injury- that's a bit of hyperbole on Kobe's part. The season before that he played in Every game at 26 minutes. So I don't think his story would been much different. The reason Eddie Jones started was Kobe despite his talent was still a work in progress. Even in 99, despite his talent he was wildly inefficient at times.

It's splitting hairs tbh... he's more of a point then scorer so to speak, with how he plays. His shot needs to be refined, and looks a little wonky in my eyes. He could definitely have a more purer form like MJ and Kobe.

The comparison, to me, is based on his movement, shot selection, focus, intelligence, etc. He obviously has a different niche to carve out but he is of the same vein of players as MJ, Kobe, and I always like to throw Roy in there. Brandon Roy, to tangent, was well on his way to being one of the greatest players to ever do it, but was cut short unfortunately due to some shotty knees.

He's got more of a grounded game then those two, but he's branching off.

Yah no doubt on Bryant not being the force he would become in 1999. There was a reason he and O'Neal were unceremoniously swept off the court by Mario Elie and the Spurs. Jones was as good as a Jimmy Butler today, so supplanting him would've taken a lot for Bryant.

I don't really think Primo could reach those Bryant heights, so I'm pegging his realistic trajectory to that of Leonard; his gradual development from solid starter to an anchor in that year before he quit. That's our pie in sky hope. Whomever the Spurs grab in the top 5 next draft could be Primo's 2nd (or 1st) in five or six years.

How long he stays is honestly unknown.

Ppl keep parroting those points but every time the Spurs have needed an injection of youth, in times of necessity, he has made room for them.. from Tony, to Kawhi etc.. not every kid has the same GLeague path.. If you are a difference maker and you are ready he will play you. To me it's moronic that some ppl feel no matter what he's going to Austin. It's actually comedic. We are devoid of a Star and if someone shows they can fill that said void then the doors will open.

He may in fact not be ready.. I mean Pop sees him every day and we can only speculate. But this isn't a contender. The focus is on the youth. He has said this for years, everyone gets their shot. If he runs with it he's ready. Some ppl act like Pop is some kind of kid with a magnifying glass burning ants...

Come to think of it coach did play Murray decently enough in his rookie year, and that was on a 61 win title contending team.

Murray had a really good game at Cleveland in primetime in January of that year.
Maybe he won't be banished to the minors...

hmm curious which part of his shooting mechanics that you find wonky? i thought out of all the spurs players we have he has one of the nicest shooting mechanic and every time he lets it fly it looks like its going in. only grip i have probably is faster release maybe? but it seems really consistent/reliable right now.

The wonky identification for me was because it's not pure like the goat form so to speak... his shooting arm if I'm not mistaken bends in a little and he shoots above his forehead... I may have to look at that closer but that's the vibes I got... The goat form is a lot more polished and perfected... slanting your arm in while shooting is typically seen as a cardinal sin to shooting purists but... it's what evs..

I was trolling the OP. I know who Cousin is. I was upset when we drafted him, as I wanted Sengun.

I don’t really mean he plays like Kobe either. I just mean he is a young guy that seems to have a lot of potential and poise for his age, and nobody knows whether he will pan out. Nobody knew 18 yr old Kobe would do what he did or he would have been drafted a lot higher.
