Primo has the ability to be a great player and pop might just stick around for a bit longer because of him... what you guys think?

Primo has the ability to be anything, including a bust. Doubtful that Pop makes his plans around that.

what's with the Primo victory cigars after preseason :lol... he has looked good, but let's see him sustain this in the big leagues. people still think white is on the cusp of being an mvp because of that one playoff game against denver

How? He's clearly already better than Lebron could ever dream of.

I think Pop doesn’t want to leave the club in disarray. Somehow I feel he’s part responsible for the Kawhi debacle, seeing the player he traded his favorite player torpedoed the whole organization. I think he wants to correct that. Of course getting the All-Time winningest coach doesn’t hurt either. It’s mot necessarily about Primo, but he’s a good piece to get in the right path

Pops staying or leaving has nothing to do with Wins and Losses.
That's been established.

Doubt there's a correlation between the two and this whole site needs to take a deep breath and walk instead of run.

He's an unproven rookie with a ton of potential. No more or no less. Let it play out before hes anointed the next kawhi/jordan/insert fantasy player.

If pop still has the energy and drive he willcoach. If not he wont. I think it comes down to that.

He hasn't had either in years. I love Pop but he should've left with Duncan.

Hes an old man who lost his wife. What else is going to occupy his life?

He reminds me of my dad. 77 years old and will not retire. He thinks if he retires he will just sit at home and deteriorate and die off in a year or two.

Bet pop is the same way.

The merits of your post are more or less immaterial because I seriously doubt they push him out the door. Right or wrong, there going to let pop end it on his terms.

I totally agree with everything you stated. I feel for Pop as far as losing his life mate, his wife. That has to be so damn hard to continue on when the one you've loved for so long has been taken away. Definitely sad for Pop.

There is nothing fulfilling to occupy his life other then coach the Spurs?
Wow.

If Pop stays , it will be about 3 more years before we start seeing Primo

if scoring 18 points in a preseason game isn't enough to tell you he's making the all star team this year, then I dunno what to tell you, man

Hysteria. Other than Sammich, who was acknowledged as being two years away, who took 3 years to be seen?

Pop needs to stay mentor Manu into the HC role

I said it before Pop will probably get the record this year and since he doesn’t want to look like he just stayed to get record he will coach one more. So for better or worse will see Pop as HC for two seasons.

Yep I still remember how hyped everyone was when Lonnie had that breakout game against the Rockets. Times are desperate but I still want to see Primo get more reps before I start hyping him up like he’s the new Kawhi.

Wow.

It's his comfort zone and pretty much his identity. Hes an old dog and removing himself would be a new trick tbh.

I've lost 2 siblings in a decade. How did I keep moving forward ? Kept my mind busy busting my ass at work. It's a comfort zone and a much needed distraction.

I like Primo, but the homerism on him is off the charts. He's already had two inches added to his height, and had the word "goat" thrown his way, geezuz. One look at his assist-to-turnover ratio over the last year should help apply the breaks a little bit at least... it's pretty bad.

No. Pop is in his 70s. Its foolish to expect him to stick around that long (assuming Primo is here for 8-10 years at min).

How chooses to grieve and cope is certainly their personal decision.
But i am assuming you are doing your job to the job specs.
You are not supervisor of an entire team (or are you?) and are not dragging down the whole team.
I'm also assuming you did not make 100 million + in the last 20 years thus can fall back and do pretty much whatever occupation / learn a new trick that you want to.
Pop OTOH.....

If someone, while grieving is making completely bad decisions that affect the whole company production and well being then, sad as it is they must be told for the good of the company. Why should all in the company suffer just to cow tow to one person? (Exclusion would be Pops Pets. They don't suffer, but rather monetarily prosper at the expense of the rest of the team.) Exact opposite of what Timmy Duncan built. That being no one gets ridiculous preferential treatment.

Really.

How about the widow / widower left with nothing and often thru no fault of their own.

Have any empathy for them?

I don't think Pop will stay because of Primo but I do think Primo will get bumped up to the main squad quickly so that Pop can help develop him on his last year coaching.

Pop has stayed this long because the team owners want him in charge of the basketball operations. And the coaching, while he's at it.

Whatever one may think about Pop as coach, he knows how to run an NBA team. There's no denying that. Such people are not easy to find.

As to Pop having nothing else to do, that is naive foolishness. For one thing, obviously, he could write his memoirs. He could travel the country, and the world, talking basketball, sports in general, or whatever.

Pop is a man who could call the Biden White House, say he'd like to have dinner with the President, and get the invitation delivered overnight by courier. Or they might tell him just to arrive whenever he can, and the invitation will be handed to him at the security gate as he's escorted in.

Pop is not like the typical clerk, or machinist or whatever. He's a man who could do more if he retired.

Of course the notion of him staying on because of a particular player is only silliness.

Why would he stay because of Primo. It's not like he's a Tim Duncan level talent.
