Some coaches and some players, specifically Jim Palmer of the late great Oriels have been adamant about finishing your pitch in defensive position / being ready to immediately get into defensive position after the ball leaves your hand.
Too bad more don't apply the advice.
Morton was not in position at all.

Perfect beginning for the Braves. Scoring in each of the first 3 innings. It was a gamble to take Rosario the NLCS MVP out of the leadoff spot and down the order (5th) even with the righty/lefty split but it immediately payed off with Soler's leadoff homer.

Astros countered by loading the bases but Morton escaped and then kept the Astros in check for a few innings.

Then the injury. Braves will now be without their presumed Game 5 and 7 starter. But the Braves bullpen held only surrendering 2 runs in the next 7 innings.

Altuve had a poor showing today giving the Braves Infield a significant edge today in performance. But Freeman was also only 1-3 with a walk.

Morton's lose will be felt in the middle of the series but those games will be played in the NL forcing Astros to sit a bat. Can the Braves bullpen withstand til then?

Astros bullpen also pitched well today but they are in need of a 2nd starter beside Garcia. Maybe Greinke?

Astros still feel confident, brushing off the loss as their usual Game 1 defeat (0-4). But their expectation that they will simply out hit the Braves was dispelled today. Morton is a life line for Houston but they still need to find their own pitching.

Astros small ball against the shift was a surprise also Braves defensive mistakes

Fried again started poorly but settled in. Astros found another starter to rely on.

Kyle Wright pitched well in the 8th, he will likely start Game 4 now since Astros hit lefty's well

Neither team will win 3 in a row so there will be a Game 6 on Tuesday

That was a down period of my baseball consumption. I just remember Ron not putting in defensive replacement for Cruz in RF and it made a difference.

LaRussa is mastermind and I'm bias towards the strategy in the NL game. So Ron was always at a disadvantage.

cruz didn't need to be replaced, he was a solid defender and easily had the range. he just wussed out against the wall at a bad time

the only major mistake wash made was putting Oliver in for the 10th

Couple things on Rosario

Even though he leads off and plays OF, he isn't relatively fast. He also plays a somewhat awkward defense in the Outfield. Not smooth like a true outfielder.

Lastly he didn't start for the Braves until August 28th. And even since then he was platooning and being substituted for defense. I remember twice during the stretch run he lost the ball in the lights.

On this particular play last night I think Swanson got too close and scared him from sliding. He definitely could have caught it. As the game announcers mentioned, Rosario defends very deep.

Astros walked into an Atlanta ambush this weekend. It's not just trying to break the Atlanta sports city narrative but also standing up to the national media's obsession with the chop, the team name, the imagery etc. As if the whole All Star game stuff wasn't already enough. People are legitimately pissed off and feeling attacked.

This was a devastating loss for the Astros. Consecutive quality starts and nothing to show for it. In the past 3 games the Astros have only surrendered 7 runs. Dusty was asked post game if he will shuffle the lineup and he responded he might, will be daytime decision.

Astros are just cocky enough to believe they only need to get this series back to Houston and go from there. But there's no Ace walking thru that door compared to the comeback of 2017.

I'll be in LA tomorrow with a girl visiting the USA on vacation :lol. So not sure how much of Game5 I can ultimately watch. It would not shock me if this series extends into the weekday but I just don't see the Astros winning 3 consecutive over Fried and Anderson. Braves already showed they can win in the Juicebox.

It's really something when you witness a Bullpen come together. I was always confident that Ian would ultimately return from injury (also Ynoa) propelling the Braves to the division title. But I didn't forsee the Pen coming together like this. I guaranteed Will Smith would blow a game or two come October. Luke had a hiccup against the Dudgers but has regrouped. You can't win the World Series without a quality bullpen. This wasn't always the case in MLB. But it has never rang truer.

It really sucked for me to find out that the Astros cheated back in 2017, but they'll always be my favorite baseball team no matter what. I really hope this is not the last run they'll make for a while, but I suppose we'll see. Again, congratulations to the Atlanta Braves.

I will fully cherish this remembering how long and difficult it was just to return. Braves might return even stronger down the road and yet go cold for one week in October.

I forgot just how long the road to reach the WS truly is. In 1996 we even won the first 2 games of the WS attempting repeat. I will try my best not to be jaded. Remain excited and surprised by what this core accomplishes in the near future.

Unlikely WS run, national darling and long suffering ender were all elements that made this so special and it won't be duplicated again anytime soon for this fan base

After game 1, I was very hopeful, though I knew Atlanta had the better pitching overall. It was disappointing and frustrating to lose that series, especially now that Correa has moved on to Minnesota.

Still, growing up an Astros fan, I never thought they would ever make the WS, and then in 2005 they did. Once we started losing 100 games a season, I thought we were done for a long time. Then, 2017 was magical. We actually won the WS. Then, we went back two more timings, losing a heartbreaker to the Nationals, before being beaten down by the Braves.

As far as the cheating goes.....they cheated and got caught, but so did the Red Sox, Mets, and a few other teams. Every single team cheats in every sport. The other teams are just pissed cause the Astros were way more sophisticated. So fuck the haters and the cry baby bitches.

It has been a fun ride, the last 5 years. I hope it will continue, and it can if Bregman actually shows up this season. At least we still have Mighty Mouse, Jose Altuve......
