Now... we're stuck with Thaddeus Carroll... how do these guys suddenly forget how to play basketball over a single off season? I don't get it.

Meanwhile, the Wizards are 4-1 with wins over the Hawks and Celtics with key pieces being out for both games.

KCP is a plus defender and three pointer shooter. Kuzma is a young piece that fits the modern game. Trez with the toughness and motor to suck up a lot of minutes in the regular season to get us a good seed.

I'm done with PATFO.

Kinda my thinking is why have we not traded young at this point? I feel like his value lowers every game he doesn’t play.

Even if we assume Lakers wanted DDR over Westbrook, DDR couldn't be traded at the time the Lakers Wizards deal happened.

Derozan is younger... plays more under control... better shooter.

As mentioned, there seems to be no hindsight with this current management, always getting stuck behind eight ball. Thad looked like he was to be used as trade piece, maybe Simmons. Okay not their fault, but it seems to happen too often. Now Spurs are stuck with Thad, not even playing Londale because they have to showcase Thad. I bet they were forced to waive Samanic early, or probably could’ve used him as filler, likewise Aminu. Idk but it feels like they could’ve have handled better, from what I expected from PATFO in the past.

"Should've." What makes you think it was their choice? The Lakers preferred Russell westbrook over demar derozan, but it's the spurs fault?

Yeah, and KCP is an almost. 29 yo owed money next season who if played would take minutes from the young players

The FO prioritizes their slow, cautious, risk averse approach but it typically just lowers the value of their players. A definite weakness and problem.

pretty much this

id rather be where we are currently at then a non championship playoff contender.

more than likely we’ll just have to draft our next special superstar that hopefully puts us in championship contention.

While I was also pushing for this sort of package, what we got was pretty comparable. It's just ghastly the Spurs waive two forwards given how thin our frontcourt is especially without Young playing.

I'm just glad Derozen is gone. He's not playing too well for the Bulls. Airballed the game winner last night on another horrible shooting perofrmance

that last possession was vintage demar; just dribbled around for a few seconds and then forced himself into heaving up a low percentage shot.

is there an unwritten rule in the NBA that you must take a jump shot at the end of the game? Players will dribble the ball until 2 or 3 seconds are left then launch a contested jumper for the win. Why not attack the basket, draw the double, and kick it out to your teammate for an open shot? The same rules to score you've been using all game should apply to the last shot. We've actually seen popovich come out of timeouts and set up a Patty Mills iso. It's mindboggling how the last shot of the game makes everyone panic.

Lakers would have been hard capped in a S&T. They had no reason to do that and thought they could get DD for the MLE. Im all for crapping on PATFO but whining because they didn't get a better deal for a FA is kinda dumb

Plus I guarantee you LBJ signed off on them getting Westbrook and he wanted to go there. It's not as simple as you may think. They also needed Harrell to opt in and for all we know he only did it because he knew he was going to DC.

I was pretty surprised Harrell opted in, he's wildly underpaid on that contract he signed in LA. Definitely wouldn't have been taking shorts to play in San Antonio.

Probably because if you get fouled the refs are going to swallow their whistle unless its really bad foul.

He opted in because he's with Klutch and does whatever they tell him to. If he were with any other agency he wouldn't have opted in because he would have got more in free agency and the deal for Westbrook would likely have failed.

Well then drive in and shoot a 10 foot midrange. Dribbling the clock down for a 20 foot shot or a 3 should not be the only option. It just can't be.

The Lakers assumed DDR would choose to play for them for peanuts. They weren’t even offering the deal the OP mentions.

Too bad the Lakers missed out on him. They made a huge mistake going for Westbrook over DeRozan. And I don't feel bad about that at all.

According to Windhorst, he'd have hard capped them.

Sure, he's better at this point, but unlike with the Bulls, where he's the best creator and their remaining core can space the floor for him, he'd be the same awkward fit (useless off ball/defensively) on the Lakers that Westbrook is.
