Christie likely finished with Mavericks
November 24, 2005

DALLAS (AP) -- Doug Christie and the Dallas Mavericks were working on a contract settlement Thursday, a week after he left the team to have his surgically repaired left ankle examined by his personal physician.

Coach Avery Johnson said after practice Thursday that he expects "some resolution" by Friday. The NBA commissioner's office has to approve any move that would remove Christie from the Mavericks' 15-player roster.

Christie's agent, Bradley Marshall, didn't return a message left on his cell phone.

Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said earlier this week that retirement was an option for the 35-year-old Christie, who is in his 14th NBA season. Christie signed a three-year contract with Dallas in August, but only the $3.15 million for the first season was guaranteed.

Christie averaged 3.7 points and 2.0 assists in the first seven games this season for Dallas before missing the last three. The 6-foot-7 swingman missed the final 24 games last season for Orlando after having bone spurs removed from his ankle.

After playing at Pepperdine, Christie was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in 1992. He also played for New York, Toronto, Sacramento and Orlando before signing with Dallas.
