The ORB% is nearly all due to Poodle. He’s beasting on the O glass this year.

I can only imagine how good the team would be on both ends with an actual PF to help out Poeltl. It's maybe the sole reason keeping me on team tank... I wanna see this core with Paolo Banchero or some other lottery PF pick. Sky's the limit.

The only thing stopping them from having a legitimately good offense is 3PA volume imo. Assist rate is awesome and the Spurs are 2nd in TOV%.
Though these things don't happen in a vacuum so I don't know how an increase in 3PA volume would affect assist rate. It would certainly cause FG% to go down.

Yeah, straight FG% is worthless.
Player 1 shoots 50%. Player 2 shoots 40%. Which one is better? Obviously, player 2. Each took 100 shots, but player 1 only shot 2 pointers, and scored 100 points. Player two shot only 3 pointers, and scored 120 points.

If you figure it took some time to get used to playing without DDR the last 15 games tell a little different story. The Spurs are 4th in OR and 12th in DR. I believe this corresponds with DJM taking his play up another notch. I think a high lottery pick is becoming a pipe dream. With such a young team I believe that they will keep improving. If I had to make a call now I would say that the Spurs make the playoffs without the play-in tournament.

DJ has been playing at a high level for most of the season. White is the one who kicked into gear about that time, with Lonnie joining in a few games later.

You are right. I was looking at DJ increase in assists which would have something to do with others making shots.

Me too.
These guys have enough talent to be competitive and could be even better with a bona-fide, top 5 lottery talent in the fold.
Crossing my fingers that they can still acquire one even if they seem like they'll win more games than I'd like.

Not many rookies are a positive year one. It'll take two seasons to see what it looks like.

This team is quite elite in a few categories. Their only weakness is basically 3-point and freethrow attempts, as well as FT percentage. That's it. Defense could be better, as they are a little below average defensively. Add to that that the team is still improving and the only thing they are missing is of course:
A real Power Forward who can shore up the defense, shoot the 3 and rebound the ball. Team would easily be in the playoffs if it had that player.

If the league addresses the intentional fouls to stop fast breaks, and it sounds like they might, SA could be not just a good offense, it could be elite. We’ve lost dozens of points to this tactic this year.
What I would do is to treat it like an extended continuation. Foul will be assessed WITHOUT play being stopped, and FTs will be assessed depending on the outcome of the play which ends in a dead ball. If you make the shot, it’s an and1. If you miss, it’s either 2 or 3 FTs, depending on the shot. Maybe even allow the fouled team to choose their FT shooter. If they try a second foul to thwart the shot, team gets the penalty, plus retains possession.
Not as punitive as a breakaway, but certainly a strong disincentive to foul in this situation.

I really don't think the offense needs to be juiced more in the NBA by rule changes. I would like to see more defense on the perimeter allowed just as a basketball fan.

The FB is one of the most exciting plays in basketball, and it’s virtually extinct. NO ONE lets one go unless it’s a clear path situation.
You can forget them allowing defensive play on the perimeter. That’s as dead as the Dinosaurs. Never going to happen.
